역사학습에서 소설자료 활용 연구

Abstract

It is a law that various teaching methods and materials count for the proactive participation and the enhanced historical thinking power of student, the ultimate goal of the history education. However, in the real world, they are not implemented well in the classroom. And it is closely related to the development and the practical use of various class materials, as well as constraints of the present educational environment, such as the amount of the class hours and the educational concentration on the college entrance. In this point, the development of various class materials that can meet the needs of instructors and students both, and meet the purpose of the education is required to enhance the quality of the class. And, it needs to develop materials strengthening historical insight, value, and attitude to cope with the shortcomings that is induced by cognition-centered education. Based on the idea that novel can meet the demand for the historical education, this research covers the feasibility and possible effects that novels can draw. Previous researches enlightened that novels have enormous value as history takes a role of the background of novels. In other words, offering novel materials with historical surroundings instead listing individual historical facts may improve the efficiency of history education. And previous ones haven't verified the correlation between the historical reality and the contents of novels, and historical fidelity issue of the contents. Thus, this thesis has 2 stems mainly based on the analysis of novels in the textbooks; the feasibility, and the suitability of using novels in the history class. Educational effects of the novels on studying history are examined at chapter Ⅱ. After the exploration of significances and theoretical backgrounds of using novels as a class material, the educational value of novels are presented. At chapter Ⅲ, the novel materials covered in the textbook are focused in the aspect of the socio-economical view in the later Chosun Dynasty. This paper checks the current status of utilizing novels in textbooks, and draws the feasible educational role of them. Specifically, putting novels used in textbooks together, it tries to give solutions with the analysis on the current constraints. To show ways to utilize the novel, works of Yeonam Ji-Won Park, who is famous for the detailed descriptive novels are illustrated in chapter Ⅳ. In those days, novels were widely written, and those were reflecting the real world in common. Especially those of Ji-Won Park depicted the reality with the highly articulated descriptions, so those are valuable as class materials. This thesis collects and arranges his novels for the convenient application in the classroom, and suggests a couple of plans for the implementation. That is, because they can show the holistic picture of those days, as well as the detailed description of historical facts, his novels would be highly suitable for the supportive class material. To increase the practical use of various materials like novels, it is crucial to recognize the importance of diverse class materials, and to adapt them into the classroom affirmatively. For this, making up the database of significant novels that can be used would be so helpful. In addition, further researches of appropriate amount, and conveying method of articles are needed for the efficient use of novels.;역사교육의 궁극적인 목적은 역사적 사고력의 신장으로 이러한 목표달성을 위해서는 다양한 학습지도 방법의 적용과 다양한 학습 자료의 활용을 통한 학생들의 적극적인 수업참여가 요구된다. 그러나 이러한 목표는 교육 현장에서 충분히 실현되지 않고 있다. 이것은 수업시수의 부족, 입시위주의 교육현실과 같은 교육환경의 여러 제약뿐만 아니라 다양한 학습자료의 개발 및 활용과도 밀접한 관련이 있다. 좋은 수업을 위해서는 교사와 학생의 요구, 교육목표 측면에서의 필요성 등을 충족시킬 수 있는 다양한 학습 자료의 개발이 요구된다. 특히, 인지적 영역에 치중한 역사교육의 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 역사적 사고력, 통찰력, 역사적 가치관, 태도와 같은 정의적 영역을 보완할 수 있는 학습 자료의 개발이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 소설이 이러한 역사교육의 요구에 부합할 수 있는 학습 자료라고 보고 이의 교육적 효과와 활용 가능성에 대해 살펴보았다. 선행연구에서는 소설의 배경으로서 ‘시간’을 제공하는 역사가 소설에서 찾을 수 있는 가치는 풍부하다는 것을 밝혀주었다. 즉, 나열적인 설명보다 역사적 사실을 구체화하는 소설자료를 대신하여 설명한다면 그 교육적 효과가 높다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 그러나 선행연구에서는 역사적 현실과 소설자료의 상관관계, 소설자료의 역사성 문제에 대한 검증이 빈약한 실정이다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 교과서에 대한 분석을 바탕으로 소설을 수업의 자료로 활용할 수 있는가, 소설이 과연 학습 자료로 타당한가에 대한 검증을 통해 그 대안을 제시해보았다. Ⅱ에서는 역사학습에서 소설자료의 교육적 효과를 알아보았다. 역사 학습 자료로서 소설자료의 의미와 소설자료를 활용하는 이론적 근거를 제시하고, 이를 바탕으로 소설자료 활용의 교육적 가치를 탐색해보았다. Ⅲ에서는 연구의 범위를 조선후기 사회경제상으로 한정하여 교과서 속에서의 소설자료를 분석하였다. 구체적인 방법으로는 이 단원에서 소설자료가 사용되고 있는지, 사용되고 있다면 어떻게 사용되고 있는지를 살펴보고 그 교육적 역할도 추론해 보았다. 교과서의 분석 내용을 종합․정리하여 교과서에 나타나 있는 현행 소설자료 활용의 문제점을 파악해보고, 나아가 이에 대한 대안을 강구해 보고자 하였다. 교과서 분석 결과, 수록된 소설자료가 빈약하며 제시방법이나 제시된 내용에 있어서도 아쉬운 점이 있었다. 또한 활용방안에 대한 구체적인 언급이 없어 수업에 활용하는 데 있어서도 어려움이 있다. 이는 소설자료가 의미 있는 자료로서 활용되지 못하거나 또 다른 암기대상이 되어버릴 위험성을 낳고 있다. Ⅳ에서는 소설자료 활용을 위한 대안으로써 조선 후기 사회의 실상을 사실에 가깝게 담아내면서 교육적 효과도 높은 연암 박지원(1737~1805)의 소설을 선정하였다. 이 같은 의도는 이 시기에 많은 소설이 제시되었고 그 소설들이 실사구시(實事求是)적이어서 현실을 비교적 사실에 가깝게 그려주고 있기 때문이다. 요컨대, 소설자료를 활용한 역사학습은 교과서의 딱딱한 서술을 보완하여 생동감 넘치는 수업을 가능하게 하리라고 본다. 또한 본 연구에서 대안으로 삼은 연암 박지원의 소설은 해박한 사실을 바탕으로 현실을 매우 정교하게 묘사하고 있기 때문에 교육 자료로서 그 가치가 높다. 즉, 역사적 사실을 비교적 그 시대 현실에 가깝게 그리고 소상히 밝혀주고 있어 역사 학습에 있어서 학습 효과를 증진 시킬 수 있으리라고 본다. 이러한 소설자료가 역사학습에 활용되기 위해서는 역사학습에 있어 다양한 학습 자료의 활용에 대한 중요성을 인식하고 이를 수업에 적극 도입하려는 시도가 필요하다. 이를 위해, 역사학습에 활용 가능한 소설자료를 수집·정리하는 노력이 요구된다 하겠다. 또한, 소설을 활용할 경우, 제시할 소설의 분량이나 제시 방법 더 나아가 소설을 활용하기 위한 적절한 수업방안에 대한 계획과 지속적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 보인다.
