무용작품 「그 사이의 나」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2021년 6월 17일 이화여자대학교 홀 Ⅰ에서 발표한 본 연구자의 무용 작품 「그 사이의 나」의 구상 단계에서부터 공연까지의 과정을 분석한 연구이다. 무용 작품 「그 사이의 나」는 본인의 이주를 통한 정체성의 변화와 혼란의 경험을 토대로 안무되었다. 이를 빠르게 변화하는 현대사회 안에서 주체적인 자신의 삶이 아닌 ‘타자화 되어가는 사회현상’에 투영하여 작품의 주제와 안무 의도를 표현하고자 하였다. 이에 본 논문의 목적은 작품의 주제가 핵심 개념과 함께 어떻게 예술적으로 형상화되었는지 작품에 표현된 움직임을 중심으로 그와 연계된 예술적 표현 요소들을 분석하는데 있다. 본 논문의 연구 작품의 안무 의도는 다음과 같다. 무용 작품「그 사이의 나」는 안무자의 실제 경험을 토대로 모호해진 경계를 살아가는 현대사회 사람들의 이야기를 작품에 담고자 하였다. 지역적으로 모호해진 경계는 오히려 너와 나로 나눠지는 이분법적인 경계를 만들었다. 이러한 경계에서 자신의 삶을 온전히 살아가지 못하고 ‘타자화’되어가는 과정을 ‘변화하는 정체성’으로 작품의 주제로 발전시켰다. 또한 이를 통해 역설적으로 ‘서로의 다름을 인지하고 인정’하는 기회가 되며, ‘자신의 내면을 깊이 들여다보는 자기 성숙의 과정’으로 이어질 수 있다는 미래지향적인 긍정의 메시지를 작품에서 전달하고자 하였다. 연구 작품의 핵심 개념인 호미바바의 『문화의 위치』(1994)에 소개된 ‘양가성’, ‘혼종성’, ‘제 3의 공간’은 문화 간의 ‘역동적인 교류’를 통한 ‘창조적 공간’인 제3의 공간을 제시함으로써 발전적인 시각으로 문화를 조망한다. 연구자는 이러한 문화적 정체성을 긍정적인 측면에서 바라보고 이를 통해 ‘다양하고 무한한 잠재적 가능성을 생성’하는 ‘새로운 문화창조의 장’을 ‘변화되는 정체성의 끊임없는 성숙의 과정’으로 작품에서 총 3장으로 구성하여 제시하였다. 본 연구자는 안무 작품「그 사이의 나」를 통해 다양해지는 현대사회의 삶 속에서 자신의 ‘주체적 정체성’을 갖고 그 안에 ‘다양함을 수용’한다면 그 과정은 힘들더라도 더 온전한 자신의 삶을 살 수 있음을 말하고자 했다. 또한 빠르게 변화되는 융복합시대에 자신의 삶을 어떻게 살아갈 것인가에 대한 질문을 던지고 그에 대한 안무자만의 답을 제시함으로써 함께 공감할 수 있는 소통의 작품이 되기를 바라는 바이다. 본 연구를 통해 연구자는 본인의 안무작품을 분석함으로 안무자의 예술적 가치관을 체계화시키고, 나아가 독창적인 표현 방식을 만들어나가고자 하는데 본 연구의 의의가 있다. ;This thesis analyzed and researched the entire creative process from the initial planning to the final stage of dance performance regarding the author’s dance work titled「In-between Myself」that was presented in Hall I of Ewha Womans University on the 17th of June in 2021. The dance work of「In-between Myself」was choreographed based on the author’s experience of changes and confusion in the identity as a result of the emigration. The author attempted to express the main ideas of the dance work and the choreographic objectives by reflecting these experiences of the author’s on the ‘social phenomenon of otherization’ for those not being able to live independent lives of their own selves in this fast-changing modern era. The current thesis was based on the theory by Homi K. Bhabha on ‘ambivalence’, ‘hybridity’, and ‘the third space’ that was introduced in「The Location of Culture」(1994). By adopting these concepts, the aim of the current thesis was to analyze how these concepts were artistically materialized in the dance moves of the dance work to express the main themes. The choreographic objectives of the present dance work are following. The dance work composed of three chapters in total attempted to describe life stories of those living in ambiguous boundaries of the modern society based on the choreographer’s personal experiences. Geographically ambiguous boundaries ironically made binary boundaries of you versus me. Based on these, the author regarded the process of ‘otherization’ for those not being able to live lives of their own selves as ‘changing identities’, which is the main idea of the present dance work. Furthermore, the author also attempted to deliver the future-oriented positive messages that this process could ironically lead to a ‘self-retrospective self-maturing process’ after ‘acknowledging and accepting the differences of each other’. ‘Ambivalence’, ‘hybridity’, and ‘the third space’, which are the main concepts of the present research work, view culture from the productive perspectives and suggest the third space as the ‘creative space’ developed from ‘dynamic interactions’ among various cultures. The author, also focusing on the positive aspects of the cultural identity, viewed a ’new field of cultural creation producing various and infinite potential possibilities’ as an ‘constantly maturing process of changing identities’. These ideas were symbolically choreographed and constructed in each of the chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the dance work to materialize the identity-changing process focused on the inside of a own self instead. In sum, in the dance work of「In-between Myself」, the present choreographer tried to argue that people could live their own lives more holistically in this ever-diversifying modern society when they ‘accepts diversity’ while holding ‘their own independent identities’ no matter how difficult the process might be. Moreover, the author hopes the current dance work to be the empathetic work of communication by raising the question of how to live a life as a own self in this fast-changing multidisciplinary era and suggesting some answers to it. Finally, this thesis has its meaning in attempting to organize the author’s artistic integrity and create original method of expression by analyzing the author-choreographed work.
