Abstract
The purpose of the study is to apply the UDL principle to develop music and teaching and learning guidance in middle school classes including students with mild intellectual disabilities, and to verify the possibility of application in the school setting through examination of the field suitability of the developed program. UDL(Universal Design for Learning) used in the developed teaching and learning guidance is a universal learning design in which teachers provide students with various possibilities by using various goals, class materials, and teaching methods in class according to their various characteristics. There are three principles of UDL: the representation principle of providing students with diverse and flexible information, the action and expression principle of helping students to express themselves in a variety of ways, and the engagement principle of allowing students to participate more actively in the classes through various and delicate devices. In this study, these UDL principles were incorporated into a total of eight teaching and learning instructions so that students could improve their musical achievements through learning that suits them. In addition, it was intended to develop a program that helps the overall development of learners with various characteristics, especially of students in integrated middle school classes including students with mild intellectual disabilities. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the concept, principle, related terms, and guidelines of UDL were analyzed, and lesson plans were developed by looking at related previous studies, and the content validity was verified by two special education experts and one UDL expert, and the field suitability was verified by three field teachers with more than 8 years of experience. The results of this study are as follows. First, music and class guidance plans in integrated middle school classes, including students with mild intellectual disabilities, were developed for a total of eight sessions using the UDL principle. The activities of the guidance plan were suitable for the musical achievement of students with intellectual disabilities and non-disabled students, and the song was selected as overlapping by analyzing general middle school music textbooks and middle school special education music textbooks based on the 2015 revised curriculum. In the 1st and 2nd sessions, we developed a teaching plan focusing on singing and instrumental(janggu) activities of Jeju folk songs called "Nuyeong Nayoung”, listening to Canon as a sanctioned song and instrumental(xylophone) activities in the 3rd and 4th sessions, and singing, instrumental(recorder), and creative activities in the 5th and 8th sessions. Second, as a result of requesting the field suitability verification of the guidance developed in this study to three field teachers with experience in integrated classes, it was evaluated as a practical guidance plan, and it was found to be suitable for the level of integrated classes in the first year of middle school, including mild intellectual disabilities. There were also disadvantages and supplementary points mentioned in the field suitability verification, and the final guidance was completed after revising the guidance plan based on the opinions of incumbent teachers. Classes using the UDL principle-based instruction plan developed in this study can motivate students to increase participation, increase academic achievement through activities that suit them, and positively affect self-esteem and self-efficacy. Through the class guidance plan applying the UDL principle, it is hoped that classes that non-disabled and disabled students can cultivate positive attitudes and achieve musical achievements in the school field.
