Analysis of China's Export Potential of Trade in Services to South Korea

Abstract

본 보고서에서는 국제무역 중력모델을 이용하여 중국의 서비스무역과 한국 수출 잠재력을 살펴봤다. 15개 선정국을 아우르는 패널 데이터셋을 사용하는 이들 국가는 세계은행이 발표한 19년간(2000~2018년)의 최신 해인 2020년으로 GDP 수준과 서비스 무역 수입량이 한국과 비슷하다. 중력 모델을 기반으로 실증 분석을 진행했다. 연구결과를 보면 중력 모델의 예측과 거의 일치하지만 경제 규모와 거리 모두 영향을 미친다는 연구 결과가 나온다. 이 동시에 FTA는 가장 현저한 변수로 비FTA 구성원의 1.92~1.99배에 달했다. 중국의 대한(對韓) 서비스 무역 실질 수출액과 예상 수출액의 추가 비교는 중국의 대한 서비스 무역이 양호하게 진행되고 있는 것으로 보여준다. 다른 나라의 예측과 비교하면 예를 들면, 말레이시아의 경우 FTA의 플랫폼 활용, 화물 무역을 통한 서비스 무역의 시너지 효과 등 점에서 중국의 대한 수출 잠재력을 자극하는 정책을 펴는 데 훨씬 큰 나라다.;This paper examines China’s export potential of trade in services to South Korea utilizing the gravity model of international trade. The panel data set consists of 15 selected countries, all of which are selected by the GDP level and service trade import volume which are similar to South Korea based on the latest year 2020 released by World Bank (World Development Indicators) for a 19-year period (2000-2018). Afterwards empirical analysis based on the gravity model is conducted. The results of the study is generally consistent with the predictions of the gravity model, while both economic size and distance matter. Meanwhile, FTA is the most significant variable among dummies which is 1.92 to 1.99 times higher than non-FTA members. Further comparison between China’s actual and predicted export volume of trade in services to South Korea shows China’s service trade with South Korea can still be improved when compared with the predictions with other countries like Malaysia, a country that is much bigger than one. For example, China can implement policies such as making full use of the FTA platform, using driving effect of trade in goods on trade in services, etc, to stimulate the export potential of China to South Korea.
