Abstract

This thesis concerns the songs from the researcher’s graduation recital program for a master’s degree: <Ich forge dir gleichfalls> a soprano aria from 《Johannes Passion, BWV 245》(1724) by Johann Seabastian Bach(1685-1750), and 《Poème d’un jour, Op.21》(1878) a song cycle by Gabriel Fauré(1845-1924). Bach’s 《Johannes Passion》is a passion that was premiered on April 7, 1724, at Good Friday Vespers at the St. Nicholas Church(Nikolaikirche) in Leipzig, and <Ich folge dir gleichfalls> is an soprano aria in the first part of this passion. This aria is about two disciples who follow Jesus with joy, and they are pledging not to stop no matter what situation comes. Bach repeatedly used the lyrics he wanted to emphasize, and he enjoyed using sequence on the repeated lyrics. Also he constructed the song in a counterpoint manner by transforming small motives. Fauré’s 《Poème d’un jour》is his first song cycle with three songs, which was composed during the first period of Fauré’s art songs. It was composed with poems by Charles Granmougin(1858-1930), and is about the love made during one day. In <Rencontre>, a man falls in love with a woman he accidentally met, in <Toujours>, he says that his love will go on forever to the woman who tells him to leave, and in <Adieu>, he eventually accepts the separation and says “Good-bye(Adieu)”. This song cycle has a simple and lyrical melody, but Fauré used unexpected key changes and augmented, diminished chords to show the character’s fluctuating mind. It shows Fauré’s feature that he expressed the poem through changes in rhythm and tonality to match the poetry and music while he preferred lyrical melody line.;본 논문은 필자의 석사 과정 이수를 위한 졸업 연주회 프로그램 중 요한 세바스찬 바흐(Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685-1750)의 《Johannes Passion(요한수난곡), BWV 245》(1724) 중 소프라노 아리아 <Ich folge dir gleichfalls(나 또한 주님을 따르리)>, 그리고 가브리엘 포레(Gabriel Fauré, 1845-1924)의 연가곡 《Poème d’un jour(어떤 날의 시), Op.21》(1878)에 관한 연구이다. 바흐의 《Johannes Passion》은 1724년의 성금요일인 4월 7일에 라이프치히(Leipzig) 니콜라이교회(Nikolaikirche)에서 초연된 수난곡이며, <Ich folge dir gleichfalls>는 《Johannes Passion》의 1부에 수록된 소프라노 아리아이다. 이 곡은 기쁜 마음으로 예수의 뒤를 따르는 두 제자의 마음을 노래하는 곡으로, 어떤 부정적인 상황이 오더라도 예수의 뒤를 따르는 발걸음을 멈추지 않겠다는 다짐을 노래하고 있다. 바흐는 강조하고 싶은 가사를 반복하여 사용하였는데, 이 때 동형 진행을 즐겨 사용하였다. 또한 순차 진행과 3도 도약 진행이라는 작은 동기들을 다양하게 변형시켜 전체적인 곡을 대위법적으로 구성하였다. 포레의 《Poème d’un jour》는 포레 예술가곡의 제 1기에 작곡된 세 곡으로 이루어진 연가곡이며, 포레의 첫 번째 연가곡이다. 이는 샤를 그랑무갱(Charles Granmougin, 1858-1930)의 시를 가지고 작곡되었고, 하루 동안에 이루어진 사랑을 노래하고 있다. <Rencontre(만남)>에서 한 남자가 우연히 만난 여인에게 사랑에 빠지고, <Toujours(영원히)>에서 사랑을 잊고 떠나라 말하는 여인에게 자신의 사랑은 영원할 것이라 소리치며, <Adieu(안녕)>에서는 결국 이별을 받아들이고 쓸쓸한 마음을 노래한다. 이 작품은 주로 단순하고 서정적인 선율로 되어 있지만, 급격한 전조와 증·감화음 등을 통해 화자의 요동치는 마음을 표현하고 있다. 이는 서정적인 선율을 선호하였으나 시와 음악의 일치를 추구하여 리듬과 조성의 변화 등으로 시의 내용을 그려내었던 포레 예술가곡의 특징을 잘 나타내고 있다.
