Abstract
;The purpose of this study is to present a new perspective on Dvorak’s String Quartet No.10 through historical consideration of nationalism, which was a major trend in the Romantic era, Czech Republic and through the analysis of nationalistic expression in his composition. Based on the existing studies, the analyses were mainly on songs. I felt the need to study the way in which the geographical and historical background influenced by Dvorak appeared as a musical characteristic. Therefore, This paper established the concept of nationalism, studied the situation in Europe and the Czech Republic at the time of nationalist movement and present the characteristics of folk music characteristics. Through this, the main characteristics of Dvorak's folk music are identified with the analysis of his String Quartet No.10 E♭ Major Op, 51 B.92. Dvorak, a representative Czech composer, was influenced by ethnic elements, as well as from Beethoven and Brahms with the use of classical grammar. It is Dvorak's unique style to combine folk characteristics such as furiant with classical grammar. I present the propensity of works during the Czech Republic's national revival movement. Through the string quartet, this paper finds the folk dances and styles of Slavic and Czech music, and examine the characteristics of Dvorak's nationalism through the analysis of String Quartet No. 10 E♭ Major Op, 51 B.92.
