로즈메리 잭슨의 이론에 근거한 패션필름의 환상적 표현 특성 연구

Abstract

In the 21st century, modern people live in the age of capitalism encouraging constant growth, development, and change. As humans face an environment that is unstable and unpredictable, they incubate the desire to either escape from or transform reality. Fantasy is manifested by the human desire to transform reality, and in the real world, humans have been making the effort to fulfill the desires by visualizing the fantasies created through such processes in various ways. In the past in the fashion world, designers expressed fantasies by using their creativity and inner desires by clothing. But in the modern days, fashion films have become an important genre in the fashion industry spurred by the digital paradigm, and by using it, designers go beyond the two-dimensional images and expand the physical limitations in the past expressions of fantasy in more creative and innovative ways. Therefore, looking at fashion films that express fantasy and figuring out what characteristics of fantastic expressions they possess hold the significance of the times. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to prepare a systematic theoretical framework on fantasy by studying the concept and definition of fantasy and looking into the discourse of scholars on fantasy in literature, and then intensively study the theory of fantasy in the literature of Rosemary Jackson, who made the attempt to establish a systematic theory on fantasy, thus establishing the types of Rosemary Jackson’s theory of fantasy for analyzing fashion films. Also, by looking into the concept and development, types, video components of fashion films, analyzing fashion films by using the objectively established analysis, and ultimately confirming the characteristics of fantastic expression of fashion films based on Rosemary Jackson's theory through the relationships of the derived characteristics, this study intended to provide an opportunity to an in-depth understanding of the fantasy expressed in modern fashion films. The range of the study is 18 clearly presented PC and mobile devices from 2016 to 2021 on the official YouTube channel of the fashion film online platform “SHOWstudio”. Also, it was limited to aesthetic art-creating fashion film with a non-narrative structure. The conclusion of this study is as follows. First, after looking into the concept and definition of fantasy and the discourse of various scholars on fantasy in literature, the types of the theory of fantasy were derived based on the key factors of the theory of fantasy in Rosemary Jackson's literature. As a result, three types of fantasy from unrealistic relationships, visualization of the invisible desires, and unrealistic beings were established. Second, a study on fashion film was conducted. First, through the concept of fashion film, the conceptual position in the relationship between fashion media and fashion videos was confirmed. After looking into the types of fashion films in previous studies, the types of this study were determined as follows: type with the purpose of making fashion films subdivided into brand-promoting fashion films and aesthetic art creative fashion films, fashion films with narrative structure, and the type with the content structure of fashion films segmented as non-narrative structure. Third, as a result of looking into the video components of fashion film with cinematic characteristics, it is largely divided into video content structure and video descriptive elements. The video content structure was subdivided into the narrative structure and non-narrative structure, and the video descriptive element was subdivided into visual descriptive element, auditory descriptive element, and editing descriptive element. In the visual description element, there were four sub-elements: charade element, camera shooting element, and color, texture, lighting, and tone elements. Fourth, 18 fashion films were analyzed according to the analysis frame including detailed analysis method for each image technology element among the components of fashion film, and then as a result of looking into the characteristics of fantastic expression in fashion films after looking into the relationship between the characteristics by fashion film, three characteristics of expression, deconstruction, openness, and extensibility, were derived. Fifth, The specific details of each characteristic are as follows. In deconstruction, four characteristics, the division and recombination between two organic matters, the division and recombination between organic matter and inorganic matter, the division and recombination between organic matter and space, and the division and recombination between inorganic matter and space were derived including the fantastic fashion film by unrealistic relationship. In openness, three characteristics were derived: the visualization of the desire for expressing the body, sexuality, and the inner psychology of human beings including the fantastic fashion film by the visualization of invisible desire. Lastly in extensibility, two characteristics were derived: the appearance of unrealistic multiple bodies and the appearance of unrealistic time flow in reality including the fantastic fashion films by unrealistic beings. As a content study, it prepared a systematic analysis framework by the theoretical study on fantasy and fashion films and derived the characteristics of fantastic expression on fashion film by performing objective analysis according to this for the purpose of confirming the value and importance of fantasy in an independent genre of art called fashion film in the times of insufficiency in the study being done on fantasy expressed in modern fashion films. Therefore, it is thought that this study will be able to contribute as basic data for the study with a multifaceted approach to fashion film emerging as an important genre in the fashion industry according to the rapid growth of science and technology and media as well as follow-up studies related to the relationship between fashion film and fantasy. ;21세기 현대인들은 끊임없는 성장과 발전, 변화를 추구하는 자본주의 시대 속에 살아가며 인간은 불안정하고 예측불가한 환경에 직면하게 되면서 현실을 벗어나고 싶은, 현실을 변형하고 싶은 욕망을 함유하게 된다. 현실을 변형하고자 하는 인간의 욕망으로 인해 환상이 발현되는데, 이러한 과정으로 생성된 환상을 현실 세계에서는 다양한 방법으로 가시화하려는 노력을 지속해왔다. 패션에서의 이전 환상 표현은 디자이너가 자신의 창의력과 내적 표출의 욕망을 복식을 통해 전개했지만 오늘날은 디지털 패러다임으로 인해 패션 산업 속 중요한 장르로 자리잡은 패션필름을 통해 2차원적인 이미지를 넘어 더욱 독창적이고 혁신적으로 기존 환상 표현의 물리적 한계를 확장시킨다. 따라서 환상을 발현시키는 패션필름 살펴보고 어떠한 환상적 표현 특성을 지니고 있는지 분석해보는 것은 시대적으로 의의를 지닌다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적으로 환상에 대한 개념 고찰과 문학에서의 환상에 관한 학자들의 담론을 살핌으로써 환상에 대한 체계적인 이론적 틀을 마련한 후 환상에 관한 체계적인 이론 확립을 시도한 로즈메리 잭슨의 문학에서의 환상 이론을 집중적으로 고찰하여 패션필름 분석을 위한 로즈메리 잭슨의 환상 이론 유형을 확립하고자 하였다. 또한 패션필름에 대한 개념, 유형, 영상 구성요소 등을 살펴보고 객관적으로 성립한 분석틀을 활용하여 패션필름을 분석하고 도출된 특징들의 관계를 통해 최종적으로 로즈메리 잭슨의 이론에 근거한 패션필름의 환상적 표현 특성을 확인함으로써 현대 패션필름에 표출된 환상을 심층적으로 이해할 수 있는 기회를 마련하고자 하였다. 연구 범위는 패션필름 전문 온라인 플랫폼 ‘쇼스튜디오(SHOWstudio)’의 공식 유튜브 채널에 2016년부터 2021년까지 PC, 모바일 모두 명확히 제시된 18편의 비서사적 구조의 심미적 예술 창작형 패션필름으로 한정하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 환상에 대한 개념과 문학에서의 환상에 관한 여러 학자들의 담론을 살펴본 후 로즈메리 잭슨의 문학에서의 환상 이론 속 핵심 내용들을 토대로 비현실적 관계에 의한 환상, 비가시적 욕망의 가시화에 의한 환상, 비현실적 존재에 의한 환상의 총 세가지 환상 유형이 성립되었다. 둘째, 패션필름의 개념을 통해 패션매체와 패션영상과의 관계 속 개념적 위치를 확인하였으며 선행연구에 따른 패션필름 유형을 살펴본 후 본 연구의 유형을 브랜드 홍보적 패션필름, 심미적 예술 창작형 패션필름으로 세분화된 패션필름의 제작 목적에 따른 유형과 서사적 구조의 패션필름과 비서사적 구조의 패션필름으로 세분화된 패션필름의 내용 구조에 따른 유형으로 삼았다. 셋째, 영화적 특성을 갖는 패션필름의 영상 구성요소를 살펴본 결과는 다음과 같다. 영상 구성요소는 크게 영상 내용 구조와 영상 기술 요소로 나뉘며, 영상 내용 구조에는 서사적 구조와 비서사적 구조로 세분화되었으며, 영상 기술 요소에는 시각적 기술 요소, 청각적 기술 요소, 편집 기술 요소로 세분화되었다. 넷째, 영상 기술 요소별 세부 분석 방식을 포함한 분석틀에 따라 18편의 패션필름을 분석하여 환상적 패션필름 유형별 특징들의 관계를 살펴본 후 패션필름의 환상적 표현 특성을 확인해보았다. 그 결과로 해체성, 개방성, 확장성의 총 세가지 표현 특성이 도출되었다. 다섯째, 각 특성의 구체적인 내용은 다음과 같다. 해체성에는 비현실적 관계에 의한 환상적 패션필름에 해당하는 유기물과 유기물의 분열과 재결합, 유기물과 무기물의 분열과 재결합, 유기물과 공간의 분열과 재결합, 무기물과 공간의 분열과 재결합의 총 네가지 특징이 드러났다. 개방성에는 비가시적 욕망의 가시화에 의한 환상적 패션필름에 해당하는 신체 표현 욕망의 가시화, 성적 표현 욕망의 가시화, 인간 내면심리의 표현 욕망의 가시화의 총 세가지 특징이 도출되었다. 마지막 확장성 중 시간의 확장에는 비현실적 존재에 의한 환상적 패션필름에 해당하는 비현실적 다중 신체의 출현, 현실 속 비현실적 시간 흐름의 출현의 총 두가지 특징이 나타났으며 신체 영역의 확장에는 비현실적 다중 신체의 출현 특징이 발현되었다. 본 연구는 현대 패션필름에서 표출되는 환상에 대한 연구가 부족한 시점에 패션필름이란 하나의 독립적 예술 장르 속 환상의 가치와 중요성을 확인하고자 패션필름에 대한 이론적 고찰을 통해 체계적인 분석틀을 마련하고 그에 따른 객관적 분석을 실시하여 패션필름의 환상적 표현 특성을 도출하였다. 따라서 과학 기술 및 미디어 매체의 비약적 성장에 따라 패션 산업 속 중요한 장르로 떠오르는 패션필름에 대한 다각적 접근의 연구는 물론 패션필름과 환상의 관계성과 관련된 후속 연구에 기초적 자료로서 기여할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.
