- Abstract
Measured concentrations of major inorganic ions (sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, and chloride) and organic matters (OM) of PM1.0 were compared among filter samples, high-resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS) and ToF aerosol chemical speciation monitor (ToF-ACSM). The observed values of the non-refractory PM1 (NR-PM1) chemical components of ToF-ACSM showed good correlation with the HR-ToF-AMS (R2 > 0.97) and PM1.0 filter (R2 > 0.85) results. However, concentrations of the ToF-ACSM were generally higher than HR-ToF-AMS and PM1.0 filter. If the concentrations of the ToF-ACSM chemical components were adjusted based on the PM1.0 filter based mass and HR-ToF-AMS based NR-PM1 mass, the concentrations of the ionic species become comparable to those the PM1.0 filter, but organics becomes lower than the OM of PM1 filter result.
In this study, ToF-ACSM was used to understand the concentration and characteristics of NR-PM1 chemical components in Seoul. The average concentration of NR-PM1 was 15.29 μg/m3 in 15 December 2020 to 15 January 2021 and 17.91 μg/m3 in 1 to 30 June 2021. As a result of PMF analysis, organic aerosols in NR-PM1 were classified as COA + HOA, BBOA, OOA-1, and OOA-2 in winter and as POA, OOA-1, and OOA-2 in summer. In the High EP 1 (21 to 30 December 2020) of the stagnant atmosphere in winter, OOA-2 accounted for a high fraction. High EP 2 (10 to 15 June 2021) when yellow dust was observed, OOA-1 accounted for a high fraction. Based on the ratio of organic aerosols by season, the characteristics of high concentration cases, and the results of previous studies, it is judged that OOA-1 is LV-OOA and OOA-2 is SV-OOA.
