산악 빙하 이미지를 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

오늘날 지구 온난화로 초래된 빙하 유실은 해수면 상승 뿐 아니라 지구 전체 환경에도 악영향을 끼치고 있다. 계속되는 심각한 환경 문제로 인해 다양한 분야에서 환경보호 관련 의제 연구가 폭넓게 이루어지고 있다. 패션에서도 환경과 자연을 영감의 원천으로 삼아 다양한 창작물을 보여주고 있는데, 특히 빙하의 요소를 모티프로 디자인하는 사례가 많아지고 있으며 빙하의 중요성에 대한 대중들의 관심을 유발하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 산악 빙하가 계곡에 따라 유동하는 곡선과 표면 질감의 시각적 이미지를 응용하여 다양한 핸드 위빙 기법으로 표현하고자 하였다. 아트 웨어 작품 구현을 위한 효과적인 연출 방법을 연구하고, 이를 토대로 의상 작품을 제작함으로써 패션디자인의 확장성과 독창성을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 크게 이론 연구와 작품 연구로 진행 되며, 이론적 연구을 통해 빙하의 개념 및 종류, 산악 빙하의 조형적 특성을 분석하고 빙하 이미지를 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 살펴보았다. 그리고 위빙 기법의 개념, 핸드 위빙 기법의 종류와 표현특성을 분석한 후 이를 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 분석하였다. 이론적 연구를 바탕으로 산악 빙하 이미지와 핸드 위빙 기법을 결합하여 총 5점의 의상 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구를 통해 도출한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산악 빙하는 산골짜기 지형을 따라 유동하며 형성되기에 산악빙하, 특히 계곡 빙하와 산록 빙하의 이미지 형태는 주로 불규칙적이며 방향성이 있는 자유 곡선으로 구성되어 있다. 빙퇴석으로 인해 곡선이 더 선명하게 되는 형상을 발견할 수 있었고, 빙하 유동에 따라 균열된 크레바스는 빙하 표면에 거친 질감을 주는 것을 관찰될 수 있었다. 둘째, 각종 핸드 위빙 기법으로 짜여진 직물은 손에 의한 밀도 조절이 기계 만큼 일정하지 않지만 수공예 느낌과 거친 질감을 갖고 있어서 빙하라는 자연경관의 불규칙한 형태를 표현하기에 효과적이다. 그 중 타피스트리직의 특성에 따라 산악 빙하 이미지를 밑그림으로 하여 파일직을 이용해 직물의 입체감을 더했으며 수막기법의 방향성은 빙하의 곡선을 형상화 하는 데에 적합하였다. 이에 타피스트리 평직과 파일직을 혼합해서 사용했을 때 울퉁불퉁한 빙하의 지형을 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 위빙 직물의 특성인 식서와 푸서를 응용하여 다양한 디자인 표현이 가능하다. 핸드 위빙 기법을 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 근거로 많은 디자이너들이 디자인의 한 요소로서 식서와 푸서를 다듬지 않고 남겨둔다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 작품 또한 식서와 푸서를 디자인적 요소로 활용하는 방법을 이용했으며, 이를 통해 작품에 생동감을 한 층 더해주었다. 넷째, 폐원단과 중고 의류를 가위로 잘라 끈으로 만들어 핸드 위빙 기법의 소재로 사용해서, 일반적인 실을 사용한 직물에서는 느낄 수 없는 자연스럽고 정리되지 않은 분위기와 더불어 직물 조직의 다양한 표현이 가능하다. 가위로 잘라 만든 끈의 불규칙한 표면과 입체감은 빙하의 이미지를 표현하기에 적합하였다. 본 연구는 산악 빙하 이미지의 조형적 특성을 핸드 위빙 기법과 결합하여 다양한 의상 작품을 효과적으로 제작하고, 패션디자인의 표현 가능성을 확대하고자 하였다. 여러가지 종류의 폐원단과 중고 의류를 해체하여 이에 따른 핸드 위빙 기법을 적용시킴으로써 직물 표면의 입체감과 소재감을 살리는데 효과적이었다. 본 연구가 자연물인 빙하의 조형적 이미지 표현과 더불어 환경 문제를 다시 한 번 생각할 수 있는 계기와 패션에서의 환경 문제를 개선할 수 있기를 바란다. 또한 핸드 위빙과 같은 전통적인 수공예 기법을 패션에 다양하게 도입하여 독창적인 디자인 생산과 전통 문화의 발전이 이어나가기를 기대한다.;The loss of glaciers caused by global warming is not only causing sea level rise but also adversely affecting the global environment. Due to the continuing serious environmental problems, research on the environmental protection-related agenda has been widely conducted in various fields. The fashion industry also uses nature as its source of inspiration, showing a variety of creative ideas, especially the increasing number of design cases with glacier elements as the theme, which arouses public attention to the importance of glaciers. Therefore, this study attempted to express the flow of alpine glaciers along the valleys with various hand weaving techniques by applying the visual images of the curves and surface textures. The purpose of this research is to study the effective realization of art wear works, and show the scalability and originality of fashion design by making art wear works. This study mainly consists of theoretical research and work research. Through theoretical research, the concept and types of glaciers, the formative characteristics of alpine glaciers, and contemporary fashion design cases using glacier images were examined. And after analyzing the concept of weaving technique, types and expression characteristics of hand weaving technique, the case of contemporary fashion design applying hand weaving technique was analyzed. Based on theoretical research, a total of 5 art wear works were produced by combining the image of alpine glaciers with the hand weaving technique. The conclusions from this study are as follows. Firstly, because alpine glaciers flow and form along the mountain valleys, the image forms of alpine glaciers, especially valley glaciers and piedmont glaciers, are mainly irregular and composed of free curves with direction. The shape of the curve became sharper due to the moraine, and the crevasses cracked by the glacial flow could be observed to give a rough texture to the glacier surface. Secondly, fabrics woven with various hand weaving techniques are effective in expressing the irregular shape of the natural landscape of glaciers because the density control by hand is not as uniform as that of a machine, but it has a handicraft feel and rough texture. According to the characteristics of tapestry weaving, the image of a mountain glacier was used as a draft, and the pile weaving was used to add a three-dimensional effect to the fabric. Therefore, when a mixture of tapestry plain weaving and pile weaving was used, it was possible to express the rugged terrain of the glacier. Thirdly, various design expressions are possible by applying selvage and fringe, the characteristics of weaving fabrics. Based on the case of contemporary fashion design applying the hand weaving technique, it was found that many designers leave the selvage and fringe as one element of design. The works of this study also used the method of using selvage and fringe as design elements, and through this method, added vitality to the works. Fourthly, by hand-cutting waste fabrics and used clothing into strings and using them as materials for hand weaving techniques, various expressions of fabric organization are possible along with a natural and unorganized atmosphere that cannot be felt in fabrics using general threads. The irregular surface and three-dimensional effect of the string cut with scissors was suitable for expressing the image of a glacier. This study attempted to effectively produce various art wear works by combining the formative characteristics of alpine glacier images with hand weaving techniques, and to expand the possibilities of expression in fashion design. The hand weaving technique was effective in reconstructing waste fabrics and used clothes to express the texture of the fabric in various ways, as well as to enhance the three-dimensional effect of the fabric surface. It is hoped that this study will provide an opportunity to rethink environmental issues along with the formative image expression of glaciers and improve environmental issues in fashion. In addition, it is expected that traditional handicraft techniques such as hand weaving will be introduced into fashion in a variety of ways to continue the development of traditional culture.
