Claude Achille Debussy의 가곡 「Cinq poèmes de Baudelaire」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 클로드 아실 드뷔시(Claude Achille Debussy, 1862-1918)의 작품 「Cinq Poèmes de Baudelaire」(보들레르의 5개의 시)에 대한 분석 연구이다. 드뷔시는 독일 중심의 낭만주의 음악에서 벗어나 20세기 프랑스의 인상주의 음악을 이끌었던 음악가이다. 그는 기존의 화성체계에서 탈피하여 자유롭게 화성을 진행하며 온음음계, 반음계, 교회선법 등을 통해 모호한 분위기를 자아냈다. 시어의 운율뿐 아니라 작시에도 훌륭한 재능을 보였던 드뷔시는 인상주의 화가들이 개최한 전시회에 참여하고 상징주의 문학가들과도 교류하면서 그들의 작품으로부터 영감을 받아 몽환적이고 신비로운 음악을 작곡하였다. 드뷔시의 작품 「Cinq Poèmes de Baudelaire」(보들레르의 5편의 시)는 샤를 보들레르(Charles Baudelaire, 1821-1867)의 시집 「악의 꽃」(Les Fleurs du Mal, 1857)에서 발췌한 5편의 시를 바탕으로 작곡된 5개의 가곡이다. 드뷔시의 작곡 시기 중 제 2기 ‘형성기’ 1887~1889년에 쓰였으며, 제4곡을 제외하고는 모두 세 부분 형식을 보인다. 이 곡은 바그너의 흔적이 엿보이지만, 보들레르의 시와 드뷔시의 음악이 아름답게 조화를 이루며 드뷔시만의 개성적인 음악 언어로 작곡한 작품임을 분명하게 한다. 제1곡 「발코니」는 중심음이 없는 온음음계의 사용으로 인해 안개 낀 느낌의 모호한 분위기를 나타내고 가사 내용에 따라 나오는 라이트모티프(Leitmotiv)가 쓰인다. 제2곡 「저녁의 조화」에서 드뷔시는 지속음을 사용하여 인상주의 음악의 색채감을 효과적으로 나타낸다. 이 곡의 가사는 각 행마다 각운이 잘 맞추어져 있어 보들레르의 천재성이 보이는 걸작이다. 제3곡 「분수」는 다섯잇단음표를 통해 끊임없이 이야기하는 분수를 음화적으로 표현했다. 여기에 쓰인 시는 8행과 6행의 반복구가 번갈아가며 세 번씩 등장하는 눈에 띄는 형식이다. 제4곡「명상」은 당시 금기시되었던 5도 병진행의 사용으로 공허한 분위기를 자아내고 중세 교회선법이 사용되어 예측이 불가능한 신비로운 선율이 창조되었다. 제5곡 「연인들의 죽음」은 드뷔시가 독일 바이로이트에서 열리는 바그너의 축제를 다녀오기 전에 작곡했지만, 바그너의 영향인 당김음과 반음계적 화성으로 이루어진 부분이 자주 보이며 짧은 동기들의 반복을 통해 곡에 통일감을 주었다. 본 논문에서는 음악과 시의 결합에 능통하였던 드뷔시의 음악이 보들레르의 시와 어떻게 연결되어 나타나는지 들여다보고, 이 가곡에 등장하는 구조적, 화성적 특징에 대해 분석한다. 이를 통해 「Cinq Poèmes de Baudelaire」(보들레르의 5편의 시) 작품에 대한 깊고 넓은 이해와 드뷔시의 음악을 접하는 이들에게 도움이 되고자 한다. ;This study aims to examine the work of Claude Achille Debussy(1862-1918)'s "Cinq Poèmes de Baudelaire", to help better understanding of this musical work in performance. Debussy, one of the representative composers of the Impressionist music in France, sets music on the Symbolist poets such as Verlaine, Banville, Bourget and Baudelaire. "Cinq Poèmes de Baudelaire", written in 1887-1889, was composed during Debussy's second formative period. The lyrics to "Cinq Poèmes de Baudelaire" were derived from the five poemes by Baudelaire's "Les Fleurs du Mal". This musical work consists of five pieces, all in a ternary form except for the 4th song. The 1st song, "Le Balcon", features a whole-tone scale without a central tone to express an ambiguous atmosphere such as foggy feeling. In addition, this song uses a leitmotiv to arouse the recalling of the past expressed in lyrics. The 2nd song is set on one of the masterpieces by Baudelaire, "Harmonie du Soir". This song effectively expresses the color of the Impressionist music using pedal point. The 3rd song, "Le Jet d'Eau", depicts of the fountain using quintuplets. This song features a noticeable formal structure reflecting in poetry in which a six-line stanza is alternating with the eight-line stanza. The 4th song, "Recueillement", uses the parallel motion in fifths, which was prohibited in the past, creating an air of emptiness. And, this song makes use of modes to evoke a mysterious mood. In the 5th song, "La Mort des Amants", Debussy shows Wagner's influence, utilizing a chromatic scale and syncopations. Besides, using the repetition of short motives gives the song a sense of unity.
