Abstract
;In the 21st century, China entered a new leap phase in the economic growth cycle where finance has become the core of economic development. With the continuous development of the economy, finance has gradually penetrated into all areas of the consumers’ daily lives. Consumers’ interest in financial products has grown, especially with the advent of the era of low interest rates and the continuous impact from the Covid-19 pandemic recently. As the world’s economic conditions encounter difficulties, they have become more concerned about investing in financial products. With the overall growth trend of the investment market, the increase in individual investors cannot be further ignored. This research focuses on individual investors with fund investment experience, aged between 30 to 50 years old and lives in major Chinese cities (Beijing and Shanghai). An attempt to deepen the understanding of such investors are conducted through empirical analysis and exploring their investment situation, personal characteristics, investment characteristics, action taken by investors to reduce risks, satisfaction of investment and the intention to continue with investment, etc. The results of the aforementioned empirical analysis showed that more than half of the survey respondent (58.5%) invested more than RMB 15,000 (approximately KR 900,000) and the fund holding period was less than one to three months. The direct opportunity for fund investment is to voluntarily investment in the fund because of the need for fund investment. The accumulation investment method is chosen as the main fund investment method. When investing, the highest priority for investors is the rate of return. According to the survey, individual investors’ subject and objective understanding are at an intermediate level, and for investment risk tolerance, 26.3% of the respondents have average/moderate risk tolerance. The results of such differences in the investment satisfaction from individual investors based on demographic characteristics shows that, in addition to gender, qualifications, occupation, income (after tax) and the current residence also play a part. A 50-year-old investor with high school qualifications or lower, holding clerical, technical or white-collar occupation, has high income and residing in Beijing has a higher rate of satisfaction. In addition, among the personal characteristics of individual investors, the focus on promotion and prevention, self-control and self-confidence has a positive (+) impact on the investment satisfaction and the intention of continuing with the investment. According to the survey, investors with above-average and high risk tolerance are more satisfied with their investment and intention to continue with the investment than investors with low risk tolerance. It is reported that the characteristics such as the understanding of the fund, fund investment attributes and “brand image” have a positive (+) impact on investment satisfaction. The “information exploration action” taken to reduce risk when investing in fund has a negative (-) impact on investment satisfaction. Based on the result of this study, we should not only pay attention to the fund investment behavior of individual investors, but also consider the psychological variables in behaviors finance – the personal characteristics of investors, and the variables in financial education – the financial capabilities of investors. More important, the development of marketing strategies for securities companies and the development of new financial education projects. In future study, we will target individual fund investors, master their psychological tendencies and study the influencing factors of various psychological factors in hope to conduct an in-depth research and discussion on the individual investors’ understanding and financial education.
