현대 자수로 해석한 조선시대 왕실 물품의 조형미 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 조선시대 전통 함(函)의 조형미를 자수에는 사용되지 않았던 소재에 기법을 적용시켜 해석해나가는 과정의 연구이다. 이에 따라 이론 연구에서는 조선시대 궁궐 안팎의 전통 의복, 물품 등 생활용품들의 특징을 공부하고, 당대에 주로 쓰인 색감과 문양, 글자나 무늬에 담긴 의미와 상징을 문헌을 통해 분석하였다. 동시에 현대 예술에서 역사와 문화, 전통이 지니는 의미를 파악하고 현대미술에 적용시키며 재구성할 수 있는 표현방식으로 접근하기 위한 탐구를 시도하였다. 우리는 모두 어떤 상황에 대한 경험과 기억을 바탕으로 상호 간의 공감대를 형성한다. 때로는 타인의 상황이나 행동에 공감할 때도 있지만, 처음 보는 사물이나 오브제로 인해 공감대가 형성되기도 한다. 이는 단순하게 상대를 이해를 한다는 것에서 더 나아가 본인의 내재된 감정과 상황을 사물에 대입해 동질감을 느낀다는 것을 의미한다. 그와 같이 연구자는 다음 작업들이 조선시대 왕실 물품들에서 영감을 얻어 화려한 겉모습 외에 개인의 꿈을 품고 살아가는 궁궐 안 사람들의 소망을 모티브로 표현함으로써 현시대를 살아가는 현대 사회인들의 내면에 감추어진 마음 상태를 간접적으로 표출하여 그에 공감하고 이해하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 조형적 표현에서는 전통 함(函)에 내재된 역사, 문화적 삶의 의미와 상징적 모티브를 금속망에 자수로 재현함으로써 소재의 투명성과 중첩의 효과를 응용하여 공간감을 통해 표현할 수 있는 방법을 모색하였다. 현대적인 일상의 소재를 선택하여 조선 시대 전통문양을 함에 도입함으로써 새로운 구성으로 전통과 현대를 아우르는 사물의 시각적 비율과 아름다움을 극대화하고 미적 조형성을 강조하였다. 일반적으로 자수 영역에서 실과 바늘과 천을 사용한 표현 사례는 많지만, 본 연구자가 시도하고 있는 이것을 뛰어넘는 철망과 철사를 사용한 자수는 전무하므로 새로운 시도에 연구의 의의를 두었다. 본 연구의 선행 연구로는 투명성이 중첩된 표현이나 동일한 소재를 사용하여 조형적 표현을 한 작가의 작품을 사례로 분석하여 독자적인 자수 기법을 창조해내기 위해 참고하였다. 작품 제작을 위해 드로잉을 통해 이상적인 크기와 비율을 다양하게 설정하였고, 함에 담긴 전통적인 의미와 상징 문양을 도입하여 위계질서를 따른 권위의 표식이 담긴 문양과 기호를 현대적으로 재배치하거나 디자인하여 창작하였다. 금속망의 단색조를 탈피하기 위해 동(銅)철망, 구리 선, 동사(銅絲)를 사용하여 변화를 주었으며 금속망의 투명성과 중첩의 응용을 통해 그 내부를 관조할 수 있게 하였다. 이를 토대로 총 7점의 작품이 제작되었으며, 일반적인 자수의 소재에 국한이 되지 않고 평면과 입체를 넘나드는 현대 자수의 가능성에 대해 확인하였다. 이 과정을 통해 시대적 차원을 뛰어넘어 전통과 현대가 조형미의 공감대를 형성할 수 있고, 통시적으로 제한되어 온 왕실 사람들의 감정과 연구자의 감정을 동시에 심층적으로 분석하여 동시대를 살아가는 우리에게 내적 위안과 안정을 주고자 한다.;We all form mutual empathy based on our experiences and memories of a certain situation. Sometimes we can empathize with other people's situations or actions, but we can also form empathy with things or objects we see for the first time. This goes beyond simply understanding the other person, and it means that you feel a sense of unity by substituting your own emotions and situations into objects. As such, the researcher's following works were inspired by the royal goods in addition to the splendid appearance, expressing the wishes of the people in the palace who live with their personal dreams as a motive, indirectly expressing the hidden state of mind of the people of modern society living in the present era to empathize with it and understand it. This thesis is a study of the process of interpreting the formative beauty of the traditional box of the Joseon Dynasty by applying techniques to materials that were not used for embroidery. Therfore, in the theoretical study, the characteristics of daily necessities such as traditional clothes and articles inside and outside the palace of the Joseon Dynasty were studied, and the meaning and symbols contained in the colors, or used letters and patterns were mainly analyzed through literature. At the same time, it attempted to explore the meaning of history, culture, and tradition in contemporary art, and to approach it as an expression method that can be applied and reconstructed in contemporary art. In the formative expression, the meaning of historical and cultural life and symbolic motives inherent in the traditional box were reproduced by embroidery on a metal net, and a method was sought to express through the sense of space by applying the effect of transparency and overlapping of materials. By selecting modern everyday materials and introducing them to the traditional patterns of the Joseon Dynasty, the new composition maximizes the visual proportion and beauty of objects encompassing both tradition and modernity, and emphasizes aesthetic formativeness. In general, there are many examples of expression using thread, needle, and fabric in the field of embroidery, but since there is no embroidery using wire mesh and wire that surpasses what this researcher is trying to do, the significance of the study was placed on a new attempt. A case study was referred from unique embroidery technique by analyzing the work of an artist who made a formative expression using the same material or overlapping transparency. For the production of the work, various ideal sizes and proportions were set through drawings, and the traditional meaning and symbol patterns contained in the box were introduced to modernly rearrange or design the patterns and symbols containing the marks of authority according to the hierarchical order. In order to break away from the monochromatic tone of the metal mesh, copper wire mesh, copper wire were used to make changes, and through the application of the transparency and overlap of the metal mesh, it was possible to observe the inside. Based on this, a total of 7 works were produced, and the possibility of modern embroidery that is not limited to general embroidery materials and crosses flat and three-dimensional surfaces was confirmed. Through this process, tradition and modernity can form a consensus of formative beauty, transcending the dimension of the times, and from in-depth analysis of diametrically limited emotion of royal family and researcher-self can provide inner comfort and stability to us living in our time.
