Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업 리사이틀 프로그램 중 글린카(Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka, 1804-1857)의 가곡〈Северная звезда(북쪽의 별)〉, 〈Жаворонок(종달새)〉. 〈Я помню чудное мгновенье(나는 기적같이 아름다운 순간을 기억 합니다.)〉과 브리튼(Benjamin Britten, 1913-1976)의 연가곡《On This Island(이 섬에서), Op.11》5곡 중, 제 1곡〈Let the Florid Music Praise!(화려한 음악으로 찬양하라)〉, 제 2곡〈Now the leaves are falling fast(이제 낙엽이 우수수 지고 있으니)〉, 제 4곡〈Nocturne(야상곡)〉에 관한 연구이다. 글린카는 러시아 민족주의 대표적인 작곡가로 자국의 민속적인 소재를 사용하였다. 그는 각 작품에서 동시대 시인의 시에 곡을 붙였으며, 곡의 분위기와 가사를 효과적으로 표현하기 위한 넓은 도약, 잦은 리듬의 변화, 붓점 리듬, 반음계적 진행 등의 사용이 두드러진다. 본 논문에서 다룬 가곡〈Северная звезда〉,〈Жаворонок〉,〈Я помню чудное мгновенье〉에서는 러시아 전통 선율과 민요 선율, 온음음계의 유도동기, 교회선법, 반주형태가 변하는 변주기법 등을 사용함으로써 러시아적 색채를 보여주는 등 러시아 민족주의의 음악적 특징이 잘 드러나 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 브리튼은 20세기 영국의 대표적인 작곡가이다. 브리튼은 이전의 작곡가들로부터 이어받은 바로크 양식의 전통적인 음악 기법과 불협화음, 복조성 같은 현대 음악의 여러 양식을 결합하여 성악곡을 작곡하였다. 그의 연가곡《On This Island, Op.11》는 다섯 개의 곡으로 이루어져 있지만 각각의 곡들은 독립되어 작곡되었으며, 음악적으로 서로 연관성을 가지지는 않는다. 각 곡은 시의 내용에 따라 음악적으로 구조를 나누었으며 낭송조의 선율, 가사그리기 기법(Word painting) 등을 사용하여 가사를 섬세하게 묘사하였다. 또한, 곡의 분위기에 따라 부분적으로 불협화음, 비화성음 같은 현대적 기법을 사용함으로써 현대음악의 특징을 나타내었다. 이 작품은 그의 초기 작품이지만 음악적으로 완성도가 높고 브리튼의 보수적이면서도 진보적인 예술성을 여실히 보여주는 작품이라고 할 수 있다.;This thesis is an analysis study on the Song〈Северная звезда〉,〈Жаворонок〉, and 〈Я помню чудное мгновенье〉 by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka(1804-1857), and No.1 〈Let the Florid Music Praise!〉, No.2〈Now the leaves are falling fast〉, and No.4〈Nocturne〉of total five song of song cycle 《On This Island, Op.11》 by Benjamin Britten(1913-1976), which are performed at the graduate recital program for the master’s degree. Glinka was a representative composer of Russian nationalism. He used the national musical material. He set some poems by contemporary poets to each song, and he remarkably used large leaps, frequent rhythm changes, dotted rhythm and chromatic progression in order to effectively express the mood and lyrics of the music. Also, Glinka showed Russian colors by using traditional Russian melody and melody of folk song, church mode, motive of whole-tone scale and thematic variation of accompaniment in 〈Северная звезда〉,〈Жаворонок〉and 〈Я помню чудное мгновенье〉. It shows the musical characteristics of nationalism in Russia. Britten is one of the most famous British composer in the 20th-century music. Based on the traditional approach to music inherited from his predecessors, Britten adopted a wide range of contemporary modes to display his unique musical style. His song cycle《On This Island, Op.11》 work consists of five songs, and each song is composed independently, with not being musically related to each other. He divided musical structure according to content of poem in each songs ang he described the lyrics delicately using the melody of reciting note and word painting. Also, it showed the characteristics of contemporary music that he used as partially contemporary techniques such as dissonances and non-harmonic tones. Although 《On This Island, Op.11》 is one of his early works, it is highly valued regarding its musicality and completeness. It is a work that clearly shows Britten’s conservative yet progressive and spirit of art.
