디자인 사고를 구성하는 요소에 관한 연구

Abstract

디자인은 보는 사람에게 시각적인 만족감을 전달하는 심미적인 요소뿐만 아니라 정보전달이라는 기능적인 요소를 지니고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 디자인은 의사소통을 원활하게 하기위해 도움을 주는 하나의 수단이자 일종의 언어이다. 사람들에게 메시지를 명확하게 전달하고, 자신의 디자인이 특별하다고 인식시키기 위해서는 자신의 생각을 조형적으로 풀어낼 수 있어야할 뿐만 아니라 논리적인 언어로 표현할 수 있어야 한다. 디자인 사고 과정이나 방법 등을 언어로 표현하기 위해서는 디자인 사고를 구성하는 요소에 대해 분석하고 체계화 하는 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 디자인 사고 과정의 고찰을 통해 디자인 과정에서 필요한 역량은 무엇인지 파악하고, 디자이너들이 그들의 디자인 사고 과정이나 디자인 방법 등을 자신만의 언어로 표현할 수 있도록 돕는 것이다. 이를 위해 디자인의 전반적인 과정에 대한 문헌연구를 진행하고, 이를 바탕으로 디자이너를 위한 프레임 워크를 제안한다. 또한 고안한 프레임 워크를 현재 활발히 활동 중인 디자이너들의 인터뷰 조사에 적용시켜 디자인이 어떠한 사고 과정과 프로세스를 거쳐 진행되는지를 연구하고자 한다. 프레임 워크를 고안하기 위하여 문헌고찰로 디자인 사고, 디자인 철학, 디자인 프로세스의 정의와 이론에 대해 알아보았으며, 디자인에 있어 이들의 역할과 필요성을 제시하였다. 정성적 연구로는 인터뷰 조사를 실시하였다. 현재 활발히 활동 중인 4명의 산업디자이너를 인터뷰 조사 대상자로 선정하여 여러 매스컴과 진행한 인터뷰를 중심으로 이들의 디자인 진행 과정을 분석하였다. 앞서 고안한 프레임 워크를 인터뷰 분석에 적용시켜 프레임 워크의 활용성을 검증할 수 있었으며, 인터뷰 조사를 통해 디자인 사고를 구성하는 요소들이 디자인에 어떻게 적용되는지를 파악할 수 있었다. 첫째, 디자인 사고란 문제를 해결하는데 있어 디자인을 적용하여 해결안을 찾는 것으로, 디자이너들은 디자인 사고를 ‘체계적인 과정을 통해 이루어지는 통합적인 사고 영역’으로 바라보았다. 둘째, 디자인 철학은 디자이너의 사고의 기준 혹은 기준으로 삼는 개념으로 전달하고자 하는 바를 디자인을 통해 보여주는 것이다. 자신의 견해나 의견 등을 작품에 일관성 있게 표현하기 위해서는 스스로에게 끊임없이 질문하고 탐구하는 자세가 필요하다. 셋째, 디자인 프로세스란 디자인 사고를 행동으로 구현해 방법론적으로 체계화한 것으로 디자인 문제의 성격에 따라 프로세스 또한 달라진다. 널리 알려져 있는 다양한 프로세스들의 공통점은 반복적이고 체계적인 과정으로 이루어진다는 것이며, 소재에 대한 이해와 탐구 그리고 반복적인 시도는 디자인 프로세스에 있어 중요한 과정이다. 본 연구를 통해 많은 디자이너들이 그들이 사용하는 디자인의 방법, 디자인 사고의 과정 등을 자신의 언어로 표현하는 데 도움이 될 것을 기대한다.;Design has not only aesthetic elements that convey visual satisfaction to viewers, but also functional elements of information transmission. From this point of view, design is a language, as design is a means of helping to facilitate communication. In order to convey a message clearly and make people feel design special, designer should be able to express their meanings logically, beyond making their works aesthetically. To express their design thinking processes and methods in language, research that analyze the elements of design thinking is essential. The aim of this study is to help designers understand what capability is needed in the design process and express their works in their own language. So literature research of design is conducted and frame work for analysis is proposed. Also by applying the framework to interviews, this study will find out what processes design goes through. For the literature review, the study explored the definition and theory of design thinking, design philosophy, and design process to devise the framework. For the qualitative research, the study conducted an interview survey. 4 industrial designers were selected for interview survey and the process of their design was analyzed based on interviews with various media. By applying the framework to interviews, this study will find out validate the utilization of the framework and what processes design goes through. Firstly, design thinking is find a solution by applying design to solving a problem, and designers viewed design thinking as 'integrated thinking'. Secondly, design philosophy is the designer's belief in design, showing what they want to talk about through design. To do this, designers need to constantly ask themselves questions and explore themselves. Thirdly, design process is a methodological systematization of design thinking by implementing action. The process also depends on the nature of the design problem. Many processes are repetitive and systematic. Therefore, understanding, exploring, and repeated attempts at materials are important steps in the design process. Through this study, we hope that many designers will help express the way they design, the process of design thinking, etc. in their own language.
