중성색으로 인지되는 색채 범주화 및 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

Chromatic neutrals are commonly used in everyday life, but the concept and definition of Chromatic neutrals are not clear, and the category of colors are also unclear. Chromatic neutrals are classified and used with different criteria and meanings in various fields, and studies on Chromatic neutrals are also insufficient. Therefore, in this study, we tried to increase the clarity of the concept of Chromatic neutrals by revealing the properties and categories of the colors that people generally think of as Chromatic neutrals. In addition, we tried to understand the characteristics of Chromatic neutrals by examining the color emotion felt in Chromatic neutrals, and evaluating the patterns and extent of changes in the emotional response when the area conditions and background conditions were different. The color categories of Chromatic neutrals were distributed around Y, YR, and R series, and could be specified as including some BG, G, and GY series colors, and were found to be concentrated in low saturation areas and had various brightness values. Saturation had a major influence on the perception of Chromatic neutrals. In Chromatic neutrals, there was no clear emotional response with regard to various adjective vocabulary. However, as for the sense of visual temperature, it was found that warmness in warm colors of Chromatic neutrals and coolness in cold colors of Chromatic neutrals were perceived according to the color series as in pure colors. However, since the Chromatic neutrals are colors whose intensity is weakened, it was confirmed that the emotional size also appeared small. As a result of examining the effect of applying background of the Chromatic neutrals to warm gray, cool gray and gray differently, when the Chromatic neutrals standing foreground and the background color of the Chromatic neutrals are colored similarly, in which the contrast effect between the colors in one screen is weakened, it was confirmed that the emotion with regard to the coolness or warmness of the Chromatic neutrals was increased. It was found that the Chromatic neutrals are highly influenced by the background color and have a property that is assimilated to the nature of the background color. As a result of examining the effect of the Chromatic neutrals by expanding or dividing the area, the temperature sensation of the background color affects the increase or decrease of the warm/cool emotion for the Chromatic neutrals in all cases of expanding or dividing the area. Above influence can be seen more increased in the condition that the area is divided. Under the condition that the area was relatively enlarged, the natural temperature of the Chromatic neutrals had a preferential effect on the change in the warm/cool emotion size rather than the background color, and as a result, the effect of the color area could be confirmed in the Chromatic neutrals.;중성색은 일상생활에서 흔히 사용되는 색이지만 중성색을 판별하는 기준은 하나로 일관되지 않는다. 다양한 분야에서 각기 다른 기준과 의미로 중성색을 분류하고 사용하기 때문에 중성색의 범주 또한 혼동을 야기한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 일반적으로 사람들이 어떠한 색을 중성색이라고 생각하고 있는지 그 색채의 속성과 그에 따른 중성색 범주를 밝히고자 하였다. 또한, 중성색에서 느껴지는 감성을 살펴보고 면적 조건과 배경 조건이 달라졌을 때의 감성 반응 변화 양상과 정도를 평가하여 중성색의 특성을 이해하고자 하였다. 중성색의 색상 범주는 Y, YR, R계열을 중심으로 분포하며 일부 BG, G, GY계열 색상을 포함하는 것으로 특정 지을 수 있었으며, 저채도 영역에 집중 분포하며 다양한 명도 값을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 중성색 인지에는 채도가 주요한 영향을 미쳤다. 중성색에서는 다양한 형용사 어휘에 대하여 명확한 감성 반응이 나타나지 않았다. 하지만 온도감에 대해서는 순색에서와 동일하게 색상 계열에 따라 난색에서는 Warm, 한색에서는 Cool 감성이 인지되는 것으로 나타났다. 다만 중성색이 색의 강도가 약화된 색이기 때문에 감성 크기 또한 작게 나타나는 것이 확인되었다. 중성색의 배경을 warm gray, cool gray, gray로 다르게 적용하여 그에 따른 영향을 살펴본 결과, 전경의 중성색과 배경색이 유사색으로 배색되어 한 화면 안에서 색상에 의한 대비가 크게 느껴지지 않을 때 기존 중성색이 갖고 있던 Warm/Cool 감성이 증가한 것이 확인되었고, 이로 인해 중성색은 배경색의 영향을 많이 받으며 배경색의 성질에 동화되는 성질을 가진 색임을 알 수 있었다. 중성색의 면적을 확대하거나 분할하여 그에 따른 영향을 살펴본 결과, 면적을 확대하거나 분할한 경우 모두 배경색의 온도감이 중성색의 Warm/Cool 감성을 증감 시키는데 영향을 미치며 그 영향력은 면적을 분할한 조건에서 더 크게 나타난다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 상대적으로 면적을 확대한 조건에서는 배경색의 영향보단 중성색 본연의 온도감이 Warm/Cool 감성 크기의 변화에 우선적인 영향을 미쳤으며 이로 인해 중성색에서도 색채의 면적 효과를 확인할 수 있었다.
