Abstract
;This thesis presents with a research on the researcher’s dance work 「Blue Moon」, performed on 11 June 2020 at Ewha Womans University Physical Education Building Hall 1. The image of ‘moon’, which in 「Blue Moon」connotes loneliness, is understood through the poem of Yoon Dongju, while the interpretation of the work focuses on to what extent the loneliness that the researcher paid attention to was effectively reflected by the image of ‘moon’. It seeks to examine the purpose and necessity of the research, along with the methodology and its limitation in the introduction, while in the main body analyze how the image of moon that symbolizes the feeling of loneliness is interpreted, and with which artistic elements has it been expressed. The choreography of 「Blue Moon」was initiated by the choreographer’s experience of the values of people living the contemporary society being decided according to how they accept the sense of loneliness. The researcher’s own sense of solitude representing that of all living in the contemporary society, it is attempted to show the process of viewing loneliness with optimism and overcoming it, thereby drawing empathy and realization from the audience. Loneliness is an emotion that naturally pervades human life, and people often let it slide, paying little regard to it. The adverse feeling of loneliness is thus not relieved but imbues humans themselves. Hence, by examining the sense of loneliness in depth, the choreographer attempted to show the process of sublimating its negative aspect in a hopeful way. In addition, using the image of moon, it was sought to represent people oppressed in a socially created atmosphere and perceptions, as well as the burden of loneliness that anyone feels according to one’s social status. Act 1 depicts the negative aspects of ‘loneliness’. The ‘loneliness’is visualized by the gloomy and cold atmosphere, along with the dancer’s movements that appears tormenting. Act 2 deals with the ‘inner maturity’ attained by stoutly accepting the negative loneliness, and its theme is expressed by the sparkling, dazzling atmosphere that contrasts with Act 1, along with fancy movements which use an objet. In conclusion, through 「Blue Moon」, the research intends to deliver the message that loneliness is not only an emotion that acts adversely, but can be overcome with hope if one has an attitude of stoutly embracing it. In addition, viewing loneliness in an optimistic and unconventional view was in an attempt to show the audience the hopeful possibility of humans overcoming the psychological difficulty they face, and it is hoped that the work provides with a positive energy.
