자연의 유기적 형태미를 적용한 바스켓트리기법 디자인의 장신구와 오브제

Abstract

오랜 세월 동안 직조의 역사는 천이나 실이라는 고정관념에서 벗어나 독특한 구조적 질감이 있는 금속재료를 직물과 같은 방법으로 짜는 독특한 문화가 이어져왔다. 금속직조는 일반적인 동식물성 실이 아닌 금속선(metal wire)을 이용하여 하나씩 손으로 감아, 보다 구조적이고 입체적인 표현이 자유로웠다. 게다가 견고함과 가단성(可鍛性) 있어 장신구로서의 가치도 충분히 갖게 된다. 화려하거나 묵직한 느낌보다는 더욱 은은하고 차분한 느낌을 주며, 금속의 단단함과 직조기법의 섬세함이 어울려 조형적인 아름다움을 표현할 수 있고 이는 현대 장신구에서 하나의 가능성을 제시할 수 있었다. 갈대, 지푸라기, 나무줄기와 같은 자연소재의 직조 기법과 금속 공예기법의 조합은 장식적인 측면에서도 상당히 매력적인 표현 기법이며, 섬유 직조와의 융합을 통해 조형적인 아름다움을 더해준다. 본 연구는 바스켓에서 발견되는 조형적 특성과 형태미에 관해 연구하고 인간이 삶에 끊임없이 영감을 주는 자연에서 발견되는 유기적인 선을 표현하려고 하였다. 작품의 모티브들은 곤충의 날개에서 보여지는 선으로 이루어진 섬세한 패턴에서 시작되어 식물의 잎사귀, 바닷가 바위에 붙어있는 따개비까지 자연의 이미지를 관찰하고 표현하고자 하였다. 바스켓트리(basketry)기법을 이용하여 섬세하고 은은한 느낌의 은선(silver wire)을 이용한 장신구와 동선(copper wire)을 이용한 오브제를 제작하여 소재와 색상, 질감의 변화를 유도하여 장신구를 제작하였고, 장신구의 오브제화를 통해 독창적인 표현영역을 넓히고자 하였다. 섬유의 기법을 응용하여 금속장신구를 연구한다는 것은 더욱 다양하고 새로운 형태의 작품으로 발전할 수 있기 때문에 매우 의미 있으며 이는 직조 기법을 금속공예기법으로 재구성하는 것으로써, 현대적 장신구의 미학적 가치는 물론 착용 가능한 실용성, 양산 가능한 상업성의 잠재력을 발견하고 각각의 기능과 영역을 확장했다. 이러한 연구과정을 통해 바스켓트리(basketry)기법으로 조형적인 아름다움을 표출할 수 있는 실용적인 장신구와 오브제를 제작하여 기법에 충실하게 표현해 보았다. 작품의 카테고리는 반지4점, 귀걸이 2점, 팔찌 2점, 목걸이 2점, 오브제 5점으로 총 15점을 제작하였고 모두 논문에 수록하였다.;The purpose of this study is to design and manufacture jewelry and objet by using basketry with silver wire. The convergence of silver wire weaving techniques requires some manufacturing methods that effectively matches them. And it needs to learn about fabric weaving techniques especially applicable on metal wire. And also, basketry techniques are important to make three-dimensional shape. Before start to produce, I studied the background of metal weaving and their examples. Metal weaving is kind of fabric weaving techniques which is suitable for metal materials. In addition, I searched the meaning of organic formative beauty, and study about the famous metal weaving examples inspired by nature. In this research, I have analyzed the formability of jewelry design through silver wire. Arline Fisch, jewelry artist, studied about metal wire and she published a book about the techniques how to make jewelry with metal wire. She attempted to explain the techniques and the book became so influential in this industry. If you know the techniques and characteristics of metal, then you can choose suitable materials and methods for the purpose of using and the design. It can lead you to create new creation by converging them. With this, it can allow the creators to work from a new and diverse perspective and opens up the possibility of new products. By using copper and silver, the metal can be expressed as an organic curve and it looks so sensitive but solid. Metal wire weaving is kind of combination of fabric weaving’s sensitivity and metal work’s hardness. It means, it has unlimited possibilities to create new things not only bold objet, but also practical jewelry which you can wear daily. Through this study, I could find a variety of jewelry design which is made with metal wire and possibilities to make creative jewelry and objet. Compared to the existing jewelry design, metal weaving jewelry is simple but needs sensitive hand knitting. I made an effort to produce unique express by making practical jewelry using metal weaving technique especially basketry techniques. The progress needs so much delicacy and patience, but I believe they are necessary things for craftsmen even though it is not that easy and needs so many effort and time. While I made the jewelry and objet, I sincerely enjoyed metal wire weaving and was so pleased to experience using metal weaving with basketry. And I want to provide people with this new experience using this jewelry.
