Abstract

This thesis is an analysis of the master’s graduation recital program, Benjamin Britten(1913-1976)’s 「Cabaret Songs」 and Sergei Rachmaninoff(1873-1943)’s 「Sonata for Cello and Piano in g minor, Op. 19」. 「Cabaret Songs」 by Britten, a leading composer of contemporary England in the 20th century, is based on a poem by British poet Wystan Hugh Auden(1907-1973). This song consists of four songs about social satire and love songs, including ‘Tell Me the Truth About Love’, ‘Funeral Blues’, ‘Johnny’, and ‘Calypso’. This piece of work is a well-represented piece of Britten's unique musical colors that combines traditional British techniques with the cabaret genre, which was popular at that time. 「Sonata for Cello and Piano in g minor, Op. 19」, the only cello sonata by Russian composer Rachmaninoff who represents Late Romanticism, was composed in 1901 and presented to cellist Anatoly Brandukov(1856-1930) who was his best friend. This piece consists of four movements, the first of which is a sonata form including a slow introduction, a second movement in the form of a fast-scherzo A-B-A', a third movement in the form of slow and lyrical A-B-A', and a fourth movement in the form of a fast sonata. His cello sonata, as the title suggests, shows piano skills by placing a large role on the piano and adding cadenza elements to the first and second movement.;본 논문은 석사 졸업 리사이틀 프로그램으로 벤자민 브리튼(Benjamin Britten, 1913-1976)의 「Cabaret Songs」와 세르게이 라흐마니노프(Sergei Rachmaninoff, 1873-1943)의 「Sonata for Cello and Piano in g minor, Op. 19」에 관한 연구해설이다. 20세기 현대 영국의 대표적 작곡가인 브리튼의 「Cabaret Songs」는 영국 시인 오든(Wystan Hugh Auden, 1907-1973)의 시를 바탕으로 쓰여졌으며 제 1곡인 ‘Tell me the truth about love’, 제 2곡 ‘Funeral blues’, 제 3곡 ‘Johnny’, 제 4곡 ‘Calypso’까지 총 4곡으로 이루어진 사회적 풍자와 사랑에 관한 모음곡이다. 이 작품은 당시에 유행하던 대중적인 요소를 담고 있는 카바레 장르에 영국의 전통적 기법을 결합하여 브리튼 자신만의 독특한 카바레 음악이 잘 드러나는 작품이다. 후기 낭만주의를 대표하는 러시아 작곡가 라흐마니노프의 유일한 첼로 소나타인 「Sonata for Cello and Piano in g minor, Op. 19」는 1901년에 작곡되어 그의 절친이었던 첼리스트 브란두코프(Anatoly Brandukov, 1856-1930)에게 헌정되었다. 이 작품은 전체 4악장 구조로 제 1악장은 느린 도입부를 포함한 변형된 소나타형식이며 빠른 스케르쵸풍의 A-B-A’의 3부분형식을 지닌 제 2악장, 느리고 서정적인 A-B-A’형식의 제 3악장 그리고 마지막으로 빠른 소나타형식인 제 4악장으로 구성되어 있다. 그의 첼로 소나타는 제목에서도 알 수 있듯이 피아노의 역할을 크게 두고 제 1악장, 제 2악장에 카덴차적 요소를 넣어 피아노의 기량을 보여주는 것이 특징이다.
