어머니의 양육행동이 유아의 사회적 행동에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구는 어머니의 양육행동이 유아의 사회적 행동에 미치는 직접적 영향과 유아의 실행기능을 통한 간접적 영향을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구의 대상은 만 3~5세 유아와 어머니 299쌍으로서 어머니 보고의 질문지법을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 어머니의 양육행동은 이선희(2012)가 제안한 학령기 자녀를 둔 부모의 양육행동 척도를 나지혜(2012)가 유아기 자녀를 둔 부모용으로 수정한 척도를 사용하여 측정하였다. 유아의 실행기능은 Gioia 등(2000)이 제안한 아동용 실행기능척도를 유아용으로 타당화한 Isquith 등(2004)의 실행기능 평정척도-유아용([BRIEF-P])을 서정은과 박혜원(2011)이 번안한 척도를 사용하였다. 유아의 사회적 행동은 LaFreniere와 Dumas(1996)가 개발한 사회적 유능성과 행동평가 척도([SCBE]) 간편형을 권연희(2003)가 번안하여 수정한 척도로 측정하였다. 수집한 자료는 상관관계분석을 실시하기 위해 SPSS 22.0 프로그램을 이용하였고, AMOS 23.0 프로그램을 사용하여 구조방정식 모형([SEM])에 따른 변인 간의 구조적 관계를 살펴보고 부트스트래핑 방법을 통해 간접효과의 유의성을 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니의 양육행동이 유아의 사회적 행동에 미치는 직접적 영향을 살펴보면, 어머니의 긍정적 양육행동은 유아의 친사회적 행동에만 직접적 영향을 미쳤고, 어머니의 부정적 양육행동은 유아의 공격적 행동과 위축된 행동에만 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 어머니가 긍정적 양육행동을 제공할수록 유아가 높은 수준의 친사회적 행동을 보였으며, 부정적 양육행동을 더 보일수록 높은 수준의 공격적인 행동과 위축된 행동을 보였다. 둘째, 어머니의 양육행동이 유아의 실행기능을 통해 사회적 행동에 간접적으로 영향을 미치는지 살펴본 결과, 어머니의 긍정적인 양육행동은 유아의 실행기능을 통해 유아의 친사회적 행동, 공격적 행동 및 위축된 행동에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 어머니가 온정적이고 논리적으로 설명할수록 유아의 실행기능 수준이 발달하게 하고, 높은 실행기능의 수준은 유아로 하여금 부정적인 행동을 줄이고 친사회적인 행동을 더 많이 하도록 하였다. 반면 어머니의 부정적 양육행동이 유아의 실행기능을 통해 사회적 행동에 이르는 간접적인 경로는 유의하지 않았다. 본 연구는 어머니의 양육행동이 유아의 실행기능을 통해 사회적 행동에 미치는 경로를 살펴보았다. 어머니의 긍정적인 양육행동은 친사회적 행동에는 직, 간접적으로, 공격적 행동과 위축된 행동에는 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나, 유아의 사회적 행동에 어머니의 긍정적인 양육행동의 중요성을 강조하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 유아기에 급격하게 발달하는 실행기능이 어머니의 양육행동과 유아의 사회적 행동 간의 관계에서 매개적 역할을 하고 있음을 보여줌으로써, 긍정적인 양육행동을 강조하는 부모교육 프로그램과 유아기 실행기능 향상을 위한 다양한 교육프로그램의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이라 기대된다. ;The purpose of this study was to investigate the direct effect of maternal parenting behavior and indirect effects through preschoolers’executive function on three types of social behavior (i.e., prosocial, aggressive and withdrawn behavior). A total of 299 mothers and their preschool aged children were subjects of this study. Mothers completed the questionnaire that included measures of their parenting behavior, preschoolers’ executive function and social behavior. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 23.0 statistics program. The primary results of the present study were as follows: First, mothers’ positive parenting behavior had a direct effect on preschoolers’ social behavior, and mothers’ negative parenting behavior had a direct effect on preschoolers’ aggressive and withdrawn behavior. That is, the more positive parenting behavior mothers reported, the higher prosocial behavior preschoolers displayed, and the more negative parenting behavior mothers reported, the higher aggressive and withdrawn behavior preschoolers exhibited. Second, mothers’ positive parenting behavior had indirect effects on preschoolers’ prosocial, aggressive and withdrawn behavior through preschoolers’ executive function. The more positive maternal parenting behavior mothers reported, the higher the level of execution function preschoolers displayed, and the higher the level of execution function allowed preschoolers to reduce negative social behavior and to exhibit more prosocial behavior. In contrast, the indirect paths from maternal negative parenting behavior to social behavior through preschoolers’ execution function was not significant. These findings suggest the importance of mediating effect of the rapidly developing executive function in early childhood on the relations between maternal parenting behavior and preschoolers’ social behavior, emphasizing the importance of maternal positive parenting behavior in preschoolers’ social behavior. Findings from this study can be used as the base data for the parenting education emphasizing positive parenting and for educational programs to improve preschoolers’ executive function.
