Abstract

A. Plan Introduction Purpose : The purpose of this textbook is to help students to improve the four language skills through extensive reading (ER) and also to be inspired and improve their personal lives from the messages conveyed in the books. Rationale : Motivation is the most important factor to improve a foreign language skill. In order to help students to develop a strong level of motivation, giving them an opportunity to be “inspired” is important. Inspiration often leads to motivation. Nowadays, YouTube has many inspiring videos and it is one of the easiest, most effective ways for learning English. By learning English with YouTube inspirational videos and reading the books that are introduced in these videos, students will develop a healthy, positive outlook on themselves as well as the world around them. Furthermore, the inspiring resources will guide them to improve the four language skills as well. Target Learners : High school students of age 17-19 Proficiency Level : Intermediate-mid (ACTFL) Learning context : After-school program Method : Communicative Language Teaching, Task-based Language Teaching, Extensive Reading, Intensive Reading Expected Outcomes: By the end of the course, students should be able to: -Improve the four language skills through intensive and extensive reading, watching YouTube videos, engaging in communicative, task-based language learning activities -Develop a motivation and habit to read for pleasure -Gain new insights from the inspiring videos
