E.Grieg Sechs Lieder, op.48 의 분석 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 19세기 후기 낭만주의 시대에 활발하게 활동한 노르웨이의 작곡가 그리그의 작품《여섯 개의 가곡》 (Sechs Lieder Op. 48)에 대한 연구이다. 해당 시기의 유럽음악은 낭만주의의 기조 아래 각 민족들만의 특색을 살리는 민족주의가 성행했던 시기였다. 그리그 또한 그러한 시대의 영향을 받아 노르웨이 민족주의 음악의 선구자 역할을 했다. 본 연구는 Sechs Lieder Op. 48을 통해 후기 낭만주의 시기의 특징과 시대적 상황에 따른 그리그만의 특징을 다방면으로 살펴보았다. 《여섯 개의 가곡》은 6인의 시인의 시를 작곡한 총 여섯 개의 곡으로 되어 있으며, 첫 번째 곡인 “인사”는 하이네의 시, 두 번째 곡인 “어느 날 나의 마음속엔”은 가이벨의 시, 세 번째 곡인 “세상의 이치”는 울란트의 시, 네 번째 곡인 “나이팅게일의 비밀”은 포겔바이데의 시, 다섯 번째 곡인 “장미의 시간”은 괴테의 시, 여섯 번째 곡인 “꿈”은 보덴슈테트의 시로 작곡된 곡이다. 해당 곡에서의 그리그의 특징을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 《여섯 개의 가곡》은 노르웨이 민속음악의 특징인 할링 리듬, 당김음, 꾸밈음이 나타나며, 자연을 소재로 활용하는 모습이 나타난다. 그리고 가곡 내에서 낭만주의의 특징인 이명동음, 반음계적 진행 변화 화음이 자유자재로 구사하고 있고, 동형진행 등이 나타난다. 또한 이러한 색채적인 화성법을 활용하면서도 화성진행이 물이 흐르듯 자연스럽게 전개되는 점을 보아 그리그의 특징이 잘 드러난다. 또한 그의 가곡을 관통하는 주요 주제인 사랑이 잘 나타나는데, 이는 그의 아내 니나를 위해 작곡하였음을 알 수 있다. 상기 내용을 바탕으로 그리그의 곡을 감상, 혹은 연주할 때 낭만주의에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 될 것이다.;Edvard Grieg composed over one hundred and fifty compositions through his career. Many of his works were inspired by the German, Danish, Norwegian, and other poetries because of his belief on the importance of language. This paper aims to explore how the Greig's one of the few German text compositions, Sechs Lieder, introduces the atmosphere(reflection) of the time and his musical characteristics. The folk music elements, the halling rhythm, the sequence, and his love of Norweigian nature make Sechs Lieder more accealible and favered than his other songs. These songs expand the harmonic language through chromantic progression, altered chord. His colorful, embellished harmony, however, does not hinder the musical unfolding. As we have seen in Schumann's songs, Grieg's songs also feature the love. There is no doubt that the genuine character of Grieg’s music has changed since Grieg married Nina. Grieg's Sechs Lieder manifest the love which is the main theme of his entire songs. It also implies that he wrote these songs for his wife Nina. In fact Sechs Lieder was published after his marriage. The first of the set, “Gruss” (Greeting), based on a poem by Heine, expresses the cheerful atmosphere of spring, the blooming flowers and the beauty of nature through the arpeggios bringing out the rich harmonies. The second song of Sechs Lieder, “Dereinst, Gedanke mein” (Once upon a time), based on a poem by Geibel also employs the romantic harmonies including enharmonic tones. “Lauf der Welt” (The Way of World), based on a poem of Uhland, expresses the passion of secret love between men and women, featuring ostinato and the howling rhythm as Norwegian folk element. “Die Verschwiegene Nachtigall” (The Silent Nightingale), based on a poem by Volgelwide depicts Norwegian traditional Hardanger Fiddle and birds song to represent the secret love between men and women. The embellished vocal line and accompaniment sound homophonic. The fifth song, “Zur Rosenzeit” (At Rose Time), based on a poem by Goethe, displays the syncopation as another Norwegian folk element. The final song of the set, “Ein Traum” (A dream), based on a poem by Bodenstedt, utilizes advanced harmonic languages such as chromatic scale and enharmonic modulation. Grieg relates a dream to the broken chords connecting a reality to the block chords.
