여성 결혼 이민자를 위한 임신·출산 기본 어휘 선정 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 여성 결혼 이민자를 위한 한국어 교육 과정에 임신과 출산 관련 내용이 부족하다는 점에 주목하였다. 결혼을 통한 한국 정착이라는 상황에 비추어 보아 대부분의 여성 결혼 이민자는 임신과 출산의 과정을 겪을 것을 쉽게 예상할 수 있다. 관련 한국어 능력의 부족은 임신과 출산이 매우 소중하고 의미 있는 과정임에도 불구하고 스트레스를 받는 상황이 되도록 할 가능성이 있다. 또한, 임신·출산이라는 의학 전문 용어적 성격은 한국어를 사용한 의사소통에 더 큰 장애를 초래하기도 한다. 이러한 관심으로부터 ‘문어로 제시된 임신·출산 정보를 이해하고 소통하기 위하여 필요한 기본 어휘는 무엇인가?’, 라는 문제가 생겨났고 이어서 ‘선정된 임신·출산 기본 어휘를 현재 여성 결혼 이민자가 접할 수 있는 한국어 교육 내용과 비교해 보았을 때 과연 보편적으로 다루어지고 있는가? 라는 문제가 도출되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 여성 결혼 이민자를 위한 임신·출산 한국어 기본 어휘 목록을 선정하고 제시하여 학습자가 한국어 교육을 통해 한국 사회에 성공적으로 정착하도록 돕는 것을 목적으로 한다. 먼저 이를 위해 어휘 교육과 말뭉치에 관한 이론적 배경과 어휘 선정에 관련된 연구, 여성 결혼 이민자를 대상으로 한 한국어 교육 관련 연구들에 대해 살펴보았고 이때 대상 연구는 한국어 교육 분야에만 국한하지 않고 간호학과 등 다양하고 전문적인 시각에서 이루어진 결과물을 살펴서 본 연구에 다양한 학문적 관점을 포함할 수 있도록 하였다. 기본 어휘를 선정하기 위해서는 관련 텍스트가 모아진 말뭉치가 필요하지만 아쉽게도 임신과 출산에 관한 말뭉치는 아직 구축된 것이 없기 때문에 본 연구에서는 원시 말뭉치의 구축부터 진행하였다. 어휘는 객관적 방법과 주관적 방법의 장점을 두루 포함하는 절충적인 방식을 사용하여 선정하였다. 선정된 임신·출산 기본 어휘 목록을 현행 한국어 교육의 내용과 비교하는 과정을 통하여 여성 결혼 이민자들의 임신과 출산에 관한 교육 상황을 알아보았다. 비교의 대상은 여성 결혼 이민자 대상 한국어 교육용 교재인 ⌜세종학당 결혼이민자 한국어 1·2⌟와 한국어 교육의 표준 모델을 제시한 ‘국제 통용 한국어 교육 표준 모형 개발 2단계’로 선정하였다. 연구의 마지막에서는 본 연구의 분석 대상이 문어 자료에만 한정되어 한계를 갖는다는 점을 밝히고 후속연구에서는 구어 혹은 구어체적 성격의 자료를 모아 말뭉치를 구축하여 임신·출산 기본 어휘를 선정해야 할 필요성이 있음을 제안하였다. 우리나라가 점차 열린 사회로 나아가며 여성 결혼 이민자에 대한 관심과 배려가 증가하는 방향으로 변화하고 있지만, 여전히 그들을 위한 현실적 지원이 부족함은 사실이다. 결혼과 동시에 한국에서 ‘아내’이자 ‘며느리’, 그리고 ‘어머니’의 역할을 감당해야 하는 그들에게는 보다 더 실제적이고 다양한 내용의 한국어 교육이 필요하다. 끊임없이 개발되고 발전되는 여성 결혼 이민자 대상 한국어 교재에 이 연구가 도움이 되어 학습자의 편안한 한국 사회의 정착에 기여할 수 있길 기대한다. ;With the increase in the number of female immigrants to Korea through marriage, the need for research on Korean language education has become greater. Also, the need for an effective language program preparing female immigrants to linguistically adapt to Korean society is now paramount. One facet of life in Korea would be starting a family. Therefore the following questions are raised: 1) What are the basic vocabulary needed to understand and communicate pregnancy and childbirth information? 2) How well are immigrants being prepared through current language programs in understanding common vocabulary or medical terminology related to pregnancy and childbirth? Few linguistic studies conducted so far have focused on this issue facing female immigrants. The purpose of this study is to select pregnancy/childbirth related vocabulary that may be incorporated into language programs, and to assess the frequency and deficiency of aforementioned vocabulary being taught to immigrants. The selection of the basic vocabulary requires a corpus with relevant text. Unfortunately, the corpus on pregnancy and childbirth had not yet been established, so this study began with the construction of a primitive corpus. Vocabulary was extracted from the constructed corpus in high frequency order, and the final list was selected and presented through the process of subjective judgment by three experts. By comparing this selected vocabulary list on pregnancy/childbirth with relevant vocabulary being currently taught in Korean language education, I examined the linguistic competence of female marriage immigrants on pregnancy and childbirth Despite the nation's push toward an open society and an ever-present interest in female marriage immigrants, the lack of practical education and support for them is undeniable. Having to function in various familial roles as wife, daughter-in-law, and mother, female immigrants are in need of a practical language education that will enable them to transition into their new Korean home. I hope that this research will be helpful in improving Korean language textbooks for female marriage immigrants.
