Abstract

본 논문은 본인의 석사 졸업 연주 프로그램인 B. Britten의『On this island Op.11』 와 R. Strauss의『Sonata for Violin and Piano in E-flat Major, Op.18』에 대한 작품해설이다. 20세기의 대표적인 영국 작곡가로 불리는 벤자민 브리튼(Benjamin Britten, 1913-1976)은 작곡가이자 피아니스트였다. 그는 다양한 음악 분야에서 두드러졌지만, 성악곡을 80곡 넘게 작곡하며 영국 성악 음악에 큰 영향력을 끼쳤다. 브리튼의 『On this island, Op.11』는 그의 초기 연가곡으로, 위스턴 휴 오든(Wystan Hugh Auden)의 『Look, Stranger! (보라, 나그네여!)』에서 영감을 받아 작곡되었다. 이 작품은 다섯 개의 곡으로 이루어져 있지만, 각각의 곡들이 독립되어 작곡되었으며 음악적으로 서로 연관성을 가지지 않는다. 후기 낭만주의를 대표하는 리하르트 슈트라우스(Richard Strauss, 1864-1949)는 작곡가이자 지휘자로서, 그의 음악에는 신고전주의의 전통적인 요소와 후기 낭만의 진보적인 요소가 복합적으로 나타난다. 슈트라우스의 대표적인 초기 작품인 『Sonata for Violin and Piano in E-flat Major, Op.18』는 1888년에 완성되었고, 그의 바이올린 소나타로는 유일하며 신고전주의의 영향을 많이 받은 작품이다. 이 곡은 전통적인 3악장으로 구성되어 있으며, 풍부한 대위법과 반음계적인 진행을 사용하여 슈트라우스만의 개성을 드러내고 있다. 각 악장들은 소나타형식, 변주곡형식, 론도형식으로 되어있으며, 제 1악장의 주제적 요소가 제 3악장에 변형되어 사용되면서 곡의 통일감을 나타냈다. ;This paper is a program annotation of the works performed in the author’s graduate recital program for the master's degree: B. Britten『On this Island, op.11』and R. Strauss『Sonata for Violin and Piano in E-flat Major, Op.18』. Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) was a renowned British composer and pianist in the 20th century. Britten was outstanding in writing various fields of music, and he wrote over 80 songs, giving a great influence on British vocal music. Britten's early work 『On this Island, op.11』 was inspired by Wiston Hugh Auden's collection of poems, "Look, Stranger!". The musical work consists of five songs, and each song is composed independently , with not being musically related to each other. Richard Strauss (1864-1949) is a composer and a conductor representing the post-German Romanticism. His music combines the traditional elements of neoclassicism with the progressive elements of post-romanticism. Strauss' 『Sonata for Violin and Piano in E-flat Major, Op.18』was completed in 1888. As his only violin sonata, thus work was greatly influenced by neoclassicalism. The work consists of three movemenets. Although each movement is cast in different forms such as sonata, ternary forms, and rondo, the main thematic melody of the first movement is modified and reused in the third movement, giving a sense of unity in the entire work. The composer’s individuality in the use of the contrapuntal writing and the chromatic scale.
