학문 목적 한국어 학습자를 위한 장르 분석 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 행정학 전공 한국어 학습자를 위한 쓰기 교육의 기초를 마련하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 최근 학업을 목적으로 한국어를 배우는 학문 목적 한국어 학습자들이 증가함에 따라 이와 같은 학문 목적 한국어 학습자를 위한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 특히 학습자 스스로가 가장 부담을 느끼는 쓰기 기능을 중심으로 연구가 진행되었다. 본 연구자는 이러한 쓰기 교육의 기초를 마련하기 위해 학문적 텍스트의 장르를 분석하여 해당 텍스트의 특성을 찾고 이에 따른 일반화된 모형을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 학문적 텍스트 중에서도 특히 한국어 모어 화자도 쓰기 부담이 높은 학위 논문을 연구 대상으로 삼았다. 대학원에 진학하는 한국어 학습자의 경우 최종 목적인 학위 취득을 위해 학위 논문을 작성해야 한다. 이 때문에 학습자에게 가장 중요하면서도 부담이 많은 텍스트라고도 할 수 있다. 학위 논문의 경우 텍스트를 읽는 독자층이 기타 텍스트와 비교하면 비교적 제한적이며, 이러한 담화 공동체의 장 르적 특성이 구조나 격식의 측면에서 더욱 두드러지게 나타나기도 한다. 이에 한국어 모어 화자가 작성한 학위 논문의 장르 분석 연구를 진행하기로 하였다. 학위 논문은 크게 서론, 본론, 결론으로 나누어 볼 수 있는데, 이 중에서도 구조나 격식이 가장 잘 드러나면서도 독자가 가장 부담을 느끼는 서론 부분을 중심으로 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 대상으로는 한국어 학습자의 분포가 가장 높은 사회과학 계열 전공 중에서도 유학생 분포 비중이 높고 아직 장르 분석 연구가 진행되지 않은 행정학 전공을 연구 대상으로 선정하였다. 본격적인 논문 분석에 앞서 이와 같은 학문적 텍스트의 장르 분석 연구의 선행 연구를 살펴보았다. 영어교육 분야에서 장르 분석을 진행한 Swales(1990)는 학술적 텍스트의 서론 부분에 대한 일반화된 모형인 Create-a-Research-Space(CARS) 모형을 제시하였고, 이 연구를 시발점으로 후속 연구들이 진행되었다. Bunton(2002)은 다양한 전공의 박사 학위 논문 서론을 분석해 기존 CARS 모형에서 나타나지 않았던 특정 전공에서만 나타나는 단계를 추가하였고, 한국 학계와 영어권 학계의 학술 논문을 비교·분석한 Lee(2000a)의 경우 CARS 모형에서 나타나지 않은 세 개의 단계가 있음을 밝혔다. 본 연구에서는 Bunton(2002)의 수정된 CARS 모형과 Lee(2000a)의 두 개 단계를 분석 도구로 선정하여 분석 연구를 진행하였다. 본격적인 분석에 앞서 신뢰도 확보를 위해 장르 분석에 배경 지식이 있는 한국어 교육 전공 석사 과정생 두 명과 행정학 전공 박사 수료생 한 명을 최종 평정자를 선정하여 평정자 간 신뢰도 평가를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 분석에 대한 신뢰도를 확보하였고, 분석 대상으로 삼은 총 36편의 학위 논문에 대해 분석 연구를 실시하였다. 이에 따라 행정학 전공 석사 학위 논문의 서론에 대한 일반화된 모형을 제시하였고, 또한 각 단계별로 자주 등장하는 표현들을 제시하였다. 마지막으로 사회과학 계열 전공의 장르 분석 연구를 진행한 신고은(2019)에서 제시한 모형과 비교하면서 차이점이 있는지 밝혔다. 본 논문은 한국어 모어 화자가 작성한 행정학 전공 석사 학위 논문의 서론을 분석함으로써 실제적인 자료를 분석하여 이 결과를 바탕으로 서론에만 나타나는 구조적, 언어적 특성을 살펴보고 제시한 것으로, 본 연구에서 나타난 연구 결과는 행정학을 전공하는 학문 목적 한국어 학습자의 학위 논문 쓰기 교육과 관련하여 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.;The purpose of this study to establish fundamental data for teaching academic writing grounded on genre-based approaches. With a recent increase in the number of foreign students studying Korean for academic purposes (KAP) in Korea, various studies have been done to help the KAP students. Among them, research is being conducted most actively on academic reading, which is the most difficult yet necessary. Hence, in order to develop a teaching model for academic writing, this study focused on genre analysis on academic texts. Public Administration theses, which can reveal the characteristic of the corresponding academic fields, were analyzed. Specifically, introduction section was chosen as the area of analysis, as KAP students find it the most challenging. The subjects of analysis were KAP students with Public Administration majors, which had the highest proportion of KAP students among humanities and social science groups. For genre analysis of Public Administration, Bunton (2002)’s modified CARS model for Ph.D. thesis introduction, which has a basis on Swale (1990)’s Create-a-Research-Space (CARS) model, was applied on 36 Master’s theses on Public Administration written by native Korean speakers were analyzed. For analysis, Bunton (2002)’s modified CARS model and Lee (2000a)’s two moves were used. Based on the results of the analysis, a generalized model of the introduction of Public Administration thesis was presented and organized. Lastly, this model was compared and contrasted with SSK-CARS model developed by Go-Eun Shin (2019), which investigated generic features of theses introductions in the field of humanities and social sciences. According to the analysis, the same academic field still exhibited different generic features depending on the specific area of study, thus suggestions on genre-based academic writing education for KAP learners were provided. This study examined generic features of the introduction section of Master’s theses in the field of Public Administration. It is expected that the findings of the study will provide a basis for further teaching in academic writing for KAP students.
