과학기술관련 사회쟁점 교육에 대한 국내 연구동향 분석

Abstract

최근 과학교육에서는 지식을 주로 전달하였던 기존의 과학 수업에서 벗어나 과학적 소양을 갖춘 시민의 양성을 교육 목표로 강조하고 있다. 과학기술관련 사회쟁점(SSI) 교육은 수업에서 과학기술로 인해 야기될 수 있는 사회적, 윤리적 쟁점을 다룸으로써 이러한 요구를 충족할 수 있다. 이에 SSI 교육에 대한 관심은 점점 증가하고 있으며, 관련 연구 또한 늘어나고 있는 추세이다. 하지만 아직까지 SSI 교육 관련 연구의 전체적인 동향을 파악하는 연구는 진행되지 않았다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내 SSI 교육 연구의 동향을 파악하고자 2006년부터 2018년까지 발표된 SSI 교육 관련 논문 87편을 연도별, 연구 대상별, SSI 소재별, 연구 주제별로 분석하였다. 이때, 연구 주제는 SSI 의사결정 및 추론, SSI 논의 및 논증활동, SSI 수업의 설계, SSI 수업의 효과성, SSI 교사교육, SSI 문헌 분석의 6가지 영역으로 나누었고, 각 영역에서 세부 연구 주제를 귀납적으로 도출하여 각 주제의 비중과 관련 연구의 특징을 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 국내 SSI 교육 관련 연구는 2006년 이후 꾸준히 증가하였으며, 특히 2013년부터 2018년까지 그 양이 급격히 증가하였다. 연구 대상은 학생, 교사, 문헌이 각각 제시된 순서대로 높은 비중을 차지하였다. 학생을 다시 학교급별로 구분했을 때에는 중·고·대학생이 비슷한 빈도로 나타난 반면, 초등학생을 대상으로 한 연구는 가장 적게 나타났다. 연구에서 다루어진 SSI 소재는 생명 공학 기술, 생명 윤리, 환경과 생태계, 에너지, 첨단 과학·기술의 개발, 질병과 치료, 약물과 화학물질, 정보 통신 기술, 법과 제도, 기타(그 외)의 쟁점 분야로 범주화할 수 있었고, 제시된 순서대로 높은 빈도를 보였다. SSI 교육 관련 연구 주제는 6가지 영역(SSI 의사결정 및 추론, SSI 논의 및 논증활동, SSI 수업의 설계, SSI 수업의 효과성, SSI 교사교육, SSI 문헌 분석)으로 구분되며 각 주제는 다양한 세부 연구 주제를 포함하고 있었다. 전반기(2006~2012)와 후반기(2013~2018)로 나누어 연구 주제의 흐름을 분석한 결과, 전반기에는 SSI 교사교육에 대한 연구가, 후반기에는 SSI 수업의 효과성을 다룬 연구와 SSI 의사결정 및 추론을 주제로 한 연구가 두드러졌다. 또한 각 시기별로 세부 연구 주제 면에서도 차이를 보였다. 대체로 후반기에는 논문의 편수가 증가함에 따라 더욱 다양한 세부 연구 주제가 등장하였으며, 강조되는 세부 연구 주제 또한 전반기와 차이를 보인 경우가 많았다. 이를 통해 최근 SSI 교육에 대한 연구자들의 관심이 증가하고 있으며 관련 연구 또한 다양해지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 국내 SSI 교육 관련 연구의 동향에 대한 다양한 정보를 제공하고, 후속 연구에 시사점을 주었다는데 의의가 있다. ;Science educators have emphasized fostering students as future citizens with scientific literacy. SSI education is regarded as one of the effective approaches to meet these needs by addressing social and ethical issues caused by rapid development of science and technology, and accordingly SSI education research has been largely published. Therefore, in this study, I analyzed eighty seven SSI research published from 2006 to 2018 in terms of SSI research topics, SSIs introduced by researchers, and targeted subjects to SSI research. SSI research topics included SSI informal reasoning and decision making, SSI argumenation, instructional approaches to SSI, educational effects of SSI instruction, and others. The result indicated as follows. First, number of SSI research in Korea has steadily increased since 2006, especially in 2013-2018. Major targeted subject of SSI research was students in secondary schools and colleges. There was relatively less studies on elementary school students. The SSIs introduced in research varied in terms of biotechnology, bioethics, environment and ecosystems, energy, development of advanced science and technology, disease and treatment, drugs and chemicals, information and communication technology, law and institutions, and other issues. The most popular SSI research topics in the first half period (2006-2012) was SSI teacher education which examined their perception of SSI education. On the contrary, studies on examining effects of SSI instruction and SSI informal reasoning and decision-making increased in the second half period (2013-2018). In general, as the number of articles increased, more detailed research topics appeared.
