Abstract

본 논문은 석사과정을 이수하기 위한 필자의 졸업연주회 프로그램 중 빅토르 위고(Victor Hugo, 1802-1885)의 시에 의한 프란츠 리스트(Franz Liszt, 1811-1886)의 4개의 가곡에 관한 연구이다. 리스트는 헝가리 출생으로 어린 시절부터 뛰어난 음악적 재능을 나타내며 전 유럽을 무대로 활동한 연주가이자 작곡가이다. 그는 특히, 19세기 중엽 이후 나타난 새로운 음악적 어법의 영향을 받아 반음계, 조성의 급격한 변화, 비화성음, 해결되지 않는 종지를 사용하여 음악을 더욱 다양하고 효과적으로 표현하였다. 위고는 19세기 프랑스 낭만주의 문학을 절정에 이르게 한 문학가로서 시, 연극, 소설을 비롯하여 다양한 분야에서 작품을 남겼다. 그는 시에서 주로 독특하고 풍부한 이미지, 대조법, 음악성, 다양한 시어와 운율, 완벽한 문체 등을 통해 자신이 원하는 바를 표현하였다. 그 중에서도 대조법과 은유법이 그가 즐겨 사용한 시법이다. 이러한 위고의 시는 많은 음악가들에게 영감을 주어 그들의 작품에 원천이 되었으며 리스트 또한 그 음악가들 중 한 명이다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 리스트의 생애를 그의 가곡 작품 중심으로 살펴보고 그의 가곡 특징, 가곡의 시기별 특징과 더불어 위고 시의 특징도 함께 알아본다. 또한, 이를 바탕으로 리스트의 4개의 프랑스가곡 <Oh! quand je dors(오! 내가 잠들었을 때>, <S'il est un charmant gazon(만약 매혹적인 잔디밭이 있다면)>, <Enfant, si j'étais roi(아가, 내가 왕이라면)>, <Comment, disaient-ils,(어떻게 하면, 그들이 말하길,)>의 음악적 특징을 위고의 시와 연관 지어 구체적으로 연구한다.;This study aims to analyze four songs composed by Franz Liszt (1881-1886) that were affected by the poems of Victor Hugo (1802-1885). Liszt was born in Hungary and early showed outstanding musical talent since childhood. As a performer and composer, he worked all across Europe. Under the influence of new musical rule that emerged after the mid-19th century, he expressed music more variously and effectively by using a chromatic scale, sudden changes in tonality, nonharmonic tones and imperfect cadence. Hugo is a French writer who was at the forefront of the Romantic literary movement in the 19th century and left works in various fields including poems, plays, and novels. He expressed what he wanted mainly through unique and rich images, contrasting words, musicality, various poetic diction and meters, and perfect writing style. Among other methods, contrast and metaphor were his favorite writing techniques. Hugo’s poems inspired many musicians to use those as a source of their works, and Liszt was one of them. This study deals with the life of Liszt around his songs and the time-specific features of those songs as well as the features of Hugo’s poems. More specifically, this paper investigates the musical features of Liszt’s four French songs <Oh! quand je dors(Oh, when I sleep)>, <S'il est un charmant gazon(If there be a lovely grassy plot)>, <Enfant, si j'étais roi(Child, if I were king)>, and <Comment, disaient-ils(How then, asked he)> by relating to Hugo’s poems.
