Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct a cooperative art activity program for children with a sense of self-respect among children in elementary school and to examine qualitatively the processes and experiences experienced by children who are participants in the study and to observe and analyze how this affects children. Children lie at an important time when self-concepts are formed, and these developments serve as an important factor that affects a child's entire life. This study used cooperative art activities programs to observe what children would accept and what changes they would make in the process of achieving the results on a daily basis. Accordingly, two research questions were selected, including: First, how do children's cooperative art activities centered on self-respect provide children with experience, and second, how do children's cooperative art activities centered on self-respect affect children's self-esteem? For this purpose, researchers organized and conducted a cooperative art activity program focusing on self-respect. Four children aged between 9 and 10 years old participated in this study, and from March to May 2019, the cooperative art activities class was conducted for a total of 20 hours. Each time, the participants examined the children's change process through participating observation and conducted in-depth interviews for each individual at the end of each next period. In addition, further in-depth interviews were conducted with the parents of the participants at the end of all classes. The classes were planned and conducted by the researchers themselves, and the classes and interviews were collected and analyzed by recording and transcription data. In addition, in-depth interview materials with parents, class participation and observation logs, children's class activities, and photographic data of their work were collected. Among the qualitative case analysis methods, Wolcott's 'technology', 'analysis' and 'analysis' were adopted, and the collected data were analyzed and compiled according to the subject after categorizing them. After describing and analyzing the data collected by the researchers, they were divided into four top categories and 18 subcategories. The following categories are described when cooperative art activities focused on children's self-esteem. First, the subcategories of personal self-respect consist of self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-assessment, positive expressiveness, self-confidence, and challenge. Second, the subcategories of social self-respect consist of empathy, acceptance, exchange of opinions, feedback, cooperation, and positive experience recognition. Third, the subcategories of Academic Self-esteem consisted of Ability, Extremity, Creativity, Problem Resolution, and Communication with Research (Teacher). The fourth subcategory of homely self-respect consists of Change Recognition. Based on the results of this study, the study results of self-esteem observed in the process and experience of children's cooperative art activities could be interpreted from a macro perspective by dividing them into "self-confidence" and "sexiness." The research participants conducted cooperative art activities focusing on self-respect, engaged in activities with more confidence, participated more actively in art activities and cooperative activities, and redefined their values through positive expressions and improved self-assessment of themselves. The research participants performed cooperative art activities focusing on self-respect and gained a sense of accomplishment through the finished product at every turn, and showed positive changes such as re-establishment of their abilities and better problem-solving skills based on this sense of accomplishment. The success experience established within the community and the solid experience that they are contributing to it provided children with significant experience in the positive development of their own self while strengthening their position within the group. The conclusions reached through him are as follows. First, the experience provided by cooperative art activities centered on self-respect was observed to correlate with the self-respect of children in emotional and functional areas. The participants gained a pleasant and meaningful experience with the frequent fulfillment and confidence they gained in each of the classes, which enabled them to form a closer peer relationship. This was linked to the increased active expression of the study participants and the development of positive self-value assessments, which could be assumed to be the result of the program undertaken in this study. Second, we observed that research participants shared a common experience and completed a single joint art product, establishing a sense of confidence and achievement in the process of accepting it through cooperative art activities, and a positive consciousness of the members and members of the community as a sense of accomplishment. Research participants who identified themselves as being active in a group participated, empathized or expressed willingness to participate in group activities with a more active attitude than before. It has been confirmed that these changes in the attitudes of the study participants' lives have also affected the peer and family relationships of children during and after the program in this study was completed. Through the research, limitations were also shown while the cooperative art activities program centered on self-respect provided an experience that affected the establishment and improvement of self-respect in children and caused visible changes in children. Since the participants in this study are all children who have no experience in cooperative art activities, it is difficult to generalize them as they can be seen as showing more immediate and visible changes, and it is difficult to make a clear judgment on self-esteem that requires a long-term analysis with classes equivalent to 20 sessions. Through the development and application of programs that overcome these limitations, access to the study of art education to children's self-respect is expected.
