한국 전통 신발을 응용한 화(靴) 디자인 개발

Abstract

본 연구는 한국의 전통 신발에서 모티프를 얻어 여성용 화(靴)의 디자인을 개발하여 제안한 것이다. 최근 10여 년 전부터 생활한복, 퓨전 한복에 이어 신한복, 고궁 한복체험 등 우리 옷과 디자인에 대한 관심이 사회, 문화적으로 높아져 왔다. 의복에서는 전통을 되살려 활용하기 위한 다양한 시도가 이루어지고 있지만, 옷과 함께 착용 되는 신발은 관심의 대상에서 제외되어왔다. 하지만 우리 옷을 바르게 체험하고 멋스럽게 입기 위해서는 그에 맞는 디자인의 신발이 요구됨에 따라 전통 신발을 모티프로 한 새로운 신발의 디자인을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 이론적 연구와 실증적 연구를 병행하였다. 조선 말기에서 20세기 전반의 유물을 중심으로 여러 종류의 전통 신발의 명칭과 특징을 조사하였고, 이 중 혜(鞋)와 화(靴)의 조형미를 탐구하여 디자인에 반영하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 현재 판매되고 있는 전통 신발의 판매 업체, 상품의 종류, 착용 현황 등을 파악하여 현재 전통 신발이 가진 문제점과 그 해결 방안을 모색하였다. 시장조사 결과 당혜, 태사혜 등 신목이 없는 신인 혜(鞋)를 응용한 신발은 이미 상품화가 많이 진행되어 있었다. 하지만 그 외의 전통 신발에 대한 응용은 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 부츠 형태의 화는 혜와는 다른 디자인적 가치가 있는 신발 범주로서, 그 패션성, 기능성이 뛰어난 신발이다. 이에 연구자는 여러 차례의 과정을 통해 신목이 올라온 화(靴) 형태의 신발 5건을 디자인한 후 실물 제작하였다. 목화의 구조를 기본으로 하되 당혜, 태사혜 등의 문양과 색상에서 모티프를 얻어 디자인에 활용하였다. 작품 제작은 수제화 제작 방식으로 연구자가 직접 제작하였고 소재는 천연가죽에 크롬 처리와 엠보 처리 등 다양한 가공이 된 가죽을 선택하였다. 고대로부터 오랜 시간 동안 신발의 재료로 애용되어온 가죽은 견고함, 편안함, 통풍성 등 기능성이 뛰어나며 시각적으로도 아름답고 고급스러워 신발에 적합한 소재이다. 작품을 제작할 때 착화감을 높이기 위해 소재 선정, 패턴 개발, 아치 쿠션 활용 등 여러 요소를 고려하였다. 전통 신발에서 영감을 얻어 디자인한 이번 작품은 한복에 어울리는 신발을 만드는 것을 첫 번째 목표로 하였으며, 양장에도 충분히 어울릴 수 있도록 개발하였다. 의복과 매치하기 쉽고 착화감이 우수한 신발을 통해 대중에게 전통 신발의 존재와 가치를 인식시켜줄 수 있는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다. 복식의 다양한 변주에 맞추어 전통 신발도 변화가 필요하며, 관심을 가지고 응용해 볼 여지가 충분히 있는 분야이다. 이번 연구가 앞으로 전통복식 디자인이 지향할 방향성 제시에 도움이 되기를 바란다. ;This study developed and proposed ladies’ boots (Hwa), getting motifs from Korean traditional shoes. From 10 years ago, social interests in Korean clothes and designs have socially and culturally increased, e.g., Daily Hanbok, fusion Hanbok and ancient palace Hanbok experience. The various attempts are made to revive and utilize the traditions in clothes while shoes, put on with the clothes have been excluded from interest. However, as it would be necessary to produce shoes in the right designs for them in order to experience and put on Korean clothes right and stylish, this study proposed the designs of new shoes with the traditional shoes as motifs. This study conducted a theoretical study and empirical study in parallel. The researcher investigated the names and characteristics of various kinds of traditional shoes, centering around the relics from the late Joseon Dynasty through the early 20th century and explored and would reflect the formative aesthetics of Hye and boots (Hwa) in the designs. For this purpose, the researcher sought problems with the present traditional shoes and solution, understanding the sellers of the traditional shoes currently selling, the types of products, and the status of wearing. As a result of market research, many studies have already been conducted on the commercialization of shoes, applying Hye, shoes with a low topline like Danghye and Taesahye. However, only a few other traditional shoes have been applied yet. Hwa in the form of boots is a category of shoes having a design value different from Hye and has excellent fashionability and functionality. Thus, the researcher produced five pairs of shoes in the shape of boots (Hwa) with a high topline through several processes. Based on the structure of Mokhwa, men’s boots, the researcher got motifs from the pattern and color of Donghye and Taesahye and utilized them in design. The researcher directly produced the works with a handmade shoe production method and as a material, the researcher chose the natural leather processed with chrome tanning and embossing in various ways. The leather that has been used as a shoe material for a long time from ancient times is excellent in functionalities, such as solidity, comfort, and breathability and visually beautiful and luxurious, so it is a material suitable for shoes. To improve the feeling when one puts them on, the researcher took into consideration several factors, including the selection of materials, the development of patterns, and the utilization of an arch cushion in producing them. These works designed, getting inspiration from the traditional shoes took the production of the shoes suitable for Hanbok as the first goal, and they were developed so that they would suit well to Western-style clothes. It is expected that through easy to suit the clothes and shoes with excellent feel of wearing, it will be an opportunity for the public to recognize the existence and value of the traditional shoes. The traditional shoes need changes, and the shoe industry is a field that leaves room to apply to various variations of costume with interest. Hopefully, this study will help present a direction in which the traditional costume design would aim in the future.
