Trafficking in Women

Abstract

The purpose of this research will primarily aim to investigate the role that civil societies have in the fight against forced marriages in Myanmar and the effectiveness of government measures implemented in the fight against this form of trafficking in women. Many of these civil societies aim to protect the vulnerable from human trafficking and especially the groups that are most at risk. This study will look in depth at how effective the current government policies and regulations are in combating this crime and what is their interaction with the international community. The data collected informs how organisations operate and also allows the creation of strategies that have effectiveness in the fight against this type of human trafficking. This study finds that gender inequality in the main factor in the vulnerability of women to trafficking. This single factor decreases the level of education and job opportunities creating a vulnerable lower socio-economic status class. This factor also plays a critical role in the challenging process of reintegration which is the first step for victims to regain control of their lives.;본 연구는 미얀마의 강제혼인 관행에 대한 시민사회의 노력을 살펴보고, 여성 인신매매의 근절을 위해 도입된 대한 미얀마 정부의 정책들을 점검할 것이다. 특히 미얀마 정부의 정책을 점검하는 데 있어서는 미얀마 정부와 국제사회간의 상호작용을 집중적으로 살펴볼 것이다. 미얀마의 시민사회단체들은 인신매매의 위혐에 처한 취약계층을 지원하는 다양한 활동을 펼치고 있다. 연구, 과정에서 수집된 데이터는 각 단체들이 어떠한 방식으로 활동을 펼치며 인신매매 근절을 위한 정부정책의 수립에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 보여주고 있다. 이를 통해, 본 연구는 여성들이 인신매매의 위혐에 빠지게 되는 가장 핵심적인 요소는 성불평등이라는 결론에 도달하게 되었다. 성 불평등은 인신매매 피해자들이 다시 일상생활로 복귀하기 위한 가장 핵심단계인 '본인삶에 대한 통제력'을 회복하는데도 매우 큰 방해요소로 작용한다.
