Remittances are significant source of external fund of developing countries surpassing official development assistance (ODA) and slightly lower than foreign direct investment (FDI). The Philippines is the third largest receiver of remittances next to China and India. Considering the magnitude of remittances received by the country, any intervention that would harness its impact is important. This study shows that financial literacy education (FLE) amongst the Filipino workers in South Korea who were hired through the Employment Permit System (EPS) influenced their remittance savings and spending behavior. Such influence resulted to reduced remittance sending costs and channeled remittance spending to productive investments including higher savings. Unfortunately, there are more EPS workers who do not have FLE considering that all overseas Filipino workers (OFW) are required to take the Pre-departure Overseas Seminar (PDOS) wherein financial literacy is a compulsory component of the module. Therefore, it is recommended that the PDOS program be revisited. Likewise, the inclusion of financial literacy in the 20-hour employment training of the EPS workers upon their arrival in Korea is recommended. Lastly, addressing the gender gap not only in FLE but also in the usage of internet and mobile application is also recommended. As found in this study, women who have larger household size send more remittances. Also, they pay more remittance sending costs because they tend to use the traditional face to face mode of sending. Such choice is probably because of the gender gap in internet usage and on what was found in this study that there are less women who had FLE than men.
