R. Schumann의 〈Kreisleriana Op. 16〉 에 관한 연구

Abstract

독창적인 음악 어법으로 19세기 낭만주의 피아노 음악에서 중요한 위치를 차지하는 로버트 슈만(Robert Alexander Schumann, 1810-1856)은 음악가이자 교육자이며 평론가이다. 그는 문학과 깊은 연관이 있던 부모님 밑에서 자라 문학적인 소질과 재능을 물려받았으며 어린 나이부터 음악성도 인정받았다. 그는 작곡 초기부터 1839년까지 피아노 작품을 많이 작곡하였는데 특히 성격소품(Character Piece)들에서 그의 진면목이 발휘된다. 19세기 낭만주의 시대의 중요한 장르인 성격소품은 피아노의 보급, 발전과 더불어 감정 표현을 중시하는 당시의 예술사조에 적합한 장르로 여겨졌다. 작곡가들은 성격소품을 통하여 개인의 개성과 감정을 표출하고 작품에 묘사적인 제목을 붙여 분위기와 심리를 암시했다. 슈만의 피아노 작품은 상당수가 성격소품집인데 이는 대체로 여러 곡을 합친 모음곡의 형태이거나 하나로 순환되는 구조를 지닌다. 문학에 관심이 많았던 슈만은 다양한 문학가들의 작품에서 영감을 받아 작곡하였으며 ‘다비드 동맹(Davidsbündler)’이라는 가상 단체의 등장인물들을 작품에 투영시키기도 했다. 그는 자신의 작품 속에 다른 작품의 선율을 가져와 인용하고 또 그것을 자신의 선율과 함께 대위적으로 사용했다. 또한 음절이나 문자를 음표화하여 주제 선율을 만드는 등의 창의성을 발휘하며 자신만의 독특한 어법을 창출해냈다. 본 논문에서 다루는 〈크라이슬레리아나(Kreisleriana) Op. 16〉는 슈만의 진가가 나타난 성격소품 중 최고의 걸작이라고 평가받는다. 총 8곡으로 구성되어 있으며 E.T.A.호프만(Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, 1776-1822)의 소설 『숫고양이 무르의 인생관(Lebens-Ansichten des Katers Murr)』의 등장인물인 악장 ‘크라이슬러(Kreisler)’에서 영감을 받아 탄생한 작품이다. 이 작품은 그의 내면의 이중적 자아라고 할 수 있는 플로레스탄(Florestan)과 오이제비우스(Eusebius)의 대조를 명확하게 느낄 수 있으며, 이들은 슈만의 작품에서 중요한 역할을 맡는다. 격정적이고 열정적인 플로레스탄은 단조로 전반적으로 빠른 템포로 진행되고, 사색적이고 서정적인 오이제비우스는 장조로 아름다운 선율과 함께 상대적으로 느린 템포이다. 상반된 두 성격은 교차되면서 등장하고 급작스러운 다이내믹, 조성, 지시어, 빠르기의 변화로 인해 대비적으로 드러난다. 3부 형식과 론도 형식이 사용된 이 작품은 구조와 조성, 선율 측면에서 순환성을 지니며 다양한 리듬과 화성의 사용으로 다채롭고 풍부한 색채를 보여준다.;Robert Alexander Schumann(1810-1856) is a representative composer of 19th century Romantic piano music, as well as a critic, conductor, and pianist. He grew up under his parents who were deeply associated with the literature. Therefore, he inherited a literary temperament from his parents. At the same time, he was recognized for his talent in music. He composed many piano works until 1839 and his real worth would be asserted in the character pieces. The character piece, an important genre during the 19th century Romantic period, was regarded as befitting the contemporary art trend emphasizing the expression of the emotions, while the pianos were developed and more distributed. Composers expressed their individuality and emotion through the character pieces, while attaching some descriptive themes to the works to hint the mood and psychological state. Many of Schumann’s piano works are character pieces which combine various pieces or converge into one. Schumann who were much interested in literature composed the piano works, being inspired by diverse literary characters. The characters of a virtual group ‘Davidsbündler’ were projected into his work. He took the melodies from his other works and quote them in the contrapuntal texture. Furthermore, he created a thematic melody by means of the solmisation syllables taken from sentences or words. It is his unique musical language. Schumann’s 〈Kreisleriana Op. 16〉 studied in this thesis has been assessed as Schumann’s masterpiece. It consists of 8 pieces in total. The character Kreisler shown up in E.T.A. Hoffmann’s(1776-1822) novel 『The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr(Lebens-Ansichten des Katers Murr)』inspired Schumann very much for 〈Kreisleriana Op. 16〉. This work features the contrasting facets of his own nature: Florestan and Eusebius. The musical sketches of these two characters are important in Schumann’s piano music. The impulsive and passionate Florestan is represented by the fast tempo in minor key, while the contemplative Eusebius is represented by a relatively slow tempo with a lyrical melody in major key. The incompatible two characters cross each other, and revealed themselves with the sudden changes of dynamic, harmony, tempo, and rhythm. The eight pieces that make up the 〈Kreisleriana Op. 16〉 are in either three-part form or rondo form. This work is cyclic in structure, rhythm, melody, and harmonic plan.
