식물 이미지를 응용한 보석 장신구 연구

Abstract

예술 활동의 주제가 되는 것은 다양하다. 그 중에서 자연은 우리의 삶의 환경에 존재하며 끊임없는 생명력과 함께 다양한 상상력을 불러일으킨다. 그러므로 자연물의 하나인 식물은 고대에서부터 현대에 이르기까지 장신구 디자인에 있어서 끊임없이 선택을 받는 소재 중 하나이다. 이에 본 연구자 또한 무한한 식물 이미지가 가지고 있는 의미와 형태미를 현대적인 장신구에 접목시켜보고자 하였다. 식물 이미지의 풍요로움과 아름다운 조형적 요소를 접목시킨 장신구를 통하여 자연과 대비되는 도시에서 살아가는 바쁜 현대인이 일상생활에서 자신이 착용한 장신구로 인하여 미적 욕구를 충족시키며 또한 작게나마 마음의 안정과 위안을 얻을 수 있는 실용적인 장신구로 표현하고자 하였다. 이론적 배경으로는 식물 이미지의 전개에서 식물에 대한 애니미즘, 토테미즘을 살펴보았으며 생태학적으로 식물의 구조와 생리적 현상을 탐구, 식물 이미지를 재해석하고자 하였다. 금속공예 기법 중에서 주조기법과 평면・입체가공기법, 보석세팅, 표면처리 작업과정으로 진행하였으며 사용한 재료는 18K, 유기질보석, 천연원석으로 식물의 아름다움을 섬세하게 표현하고자 하였다. 특히 식물의 생동감과 다양한 색감을 표현하기 위하여 다양한 색상의 천연원석 및 산호라는 유기질 보석을 사용함으로서 장신구의 조화로움과 균형미를 형상화하여 완성도를 더 높이고자 하였다. 결론으로는 식물 이미지를 응용한 현대 장신구의 표현 연구를 통해 본 연구자는 식물이 가지고 있는 인간 친화적, 자연 친화적인 형태미가 현대인들에게 심리적, 정서적인 안정감과 위안을 줄 수 있다는 가치와 의미를 부여하여 현대 장신구로 승화시켜보고자 노력하였다. 자연으로부터 오는 치유에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있는 요즘, 정보와 통신이 발달한 산업사회에서 식물 이미지는 무한한 영감을 주는 동시에 현재를 살아가는 일반 사람들에게도 정서적으로 안정과, 위안을 주는 소중한 이미지 중의 하나라고 생각한다. 이러한 식물 이미지의 응용을 통한 장신구의 표현 연구가 장신구로서의 역할뿐 만이 아니라, 금속공예가 가진 문화적 가치, 예술적 가치를 일반 사람들에게도 인정받고 또 공감 받을 수 있는 공예의 모습으로 발전되기를 기원하는 데에 본 연구의 의의를 두고자 한다. ;Nature is the root of life and the main form of expression for humans when trying to create the ideal work of art. Nature gives a fundamental power to all forms of art that is closest to human sensibilities. The plant image is one of the most important subjects for the jewellery designer, a source of endless vitality and power and one which has been of significance from ancient times to the present. As a result of my research I would like to use the infinite beauty of plant imagery in order to create new forms of modern jewellery. Through the formative elements of plants imagery I am looking to contrast nature with the busy life of modern people living in the city, and wish to bring stability and comfort of mind through expressions of plant-life in modern, practical jewellery. I have studied the origins and development of plant imagery and its use in animism and totemic art from a theoretical background and my aim now is to explore and reinterpret the ecological structures and phenomenon of plants through my own art. I want to express a plant’s beauty exquisitely in my work through unique metal working and casting techniques, with delicate gem setting and surface treatment processes. I use 18 K materials, organic gems and natural shapes so that the fine detail and beauty of plants may be expressed. In particular, my aim is to bring out expressions of plant life through a variety of colour, natural stone and coral to create organic ornaments in order to further increase the maturity of the jewellery. In conclusion, I have endeavoured to transcend expressions of organic-life through modern application; I want to bring the images I’ve experienced through my research into human evolution, botany and forms of beauty, to the benefit of the psychological and emotional stability of modern people and to bring value and meaning to modern jewellery. In particular, in these days of renewed interest in the use of natural plant remedies for healing purposes I believe that plant based jewellery can inspire and bring comfort, as well as emotional stability, to modern people in our highly developed, industrial and technological society. Through the use of organic based imagery in metallic art and jewellery I wish to expand the cultural appreciation and empathy of ordinary people for the value and role of the craftsman who produces such objects of art. This is the purpose of this study.
