대학 아마추어 밴드 동아리 구성원의 음악적 경험에 대한 사례연구

Abstract

본 연구는 대학 안의 밴드 동아리의 대학생들을 중심으로 음악활동을 통해 개인의 심미적 경험, 밴드 내 음악적 경험, 밴드 내 사회적 정서 경험을 알아보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 질적 연구방법 중 사례연구를 사용하여 경상북도에 위치한 D대학교의 밴드 동아리를 의도적 표본 추출하고 음악 활동에 참여하고 있는 참여자 6명에 대한 참여관찰을 실시하였다. 참여관찰 기간은 2018년 2월 4일부터 2월 27일까지 설 연휴와 신입생 OT날을 제외하고 총 18일간 진행되었다. 본 연구에서는 동영상 녹화, 관찰일지 작성, 개별 인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집하고 크레스웰(Creswell, 2015)이 제시한 나선형 자료 분석 방법을 통해 분석하여 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 밴드 활동을 통한 음악 경험은 밴드 구성원들 각 개인에게 의미 있는 경험을 제공하였다. 기타1은 이전 음악적 지식과 경험을 통해 음악적 기능의 향상에 기여하였으며, 기타2는 기계에 대한 관심사를 통해 음향 기자재에 관심을 보였다. 드럼은 밴드 공연 경험을 통해 음악의 즐거움을 느낄 수 있었으며, 베이스는 음악을 즐기는 태도를 통해 삶 속에서 음악의 향유하는 즐거움을 찾을 수 있었다. 키보드는 반성적 사고를 통해 밴드 활동에서 타인과 교류를 하며 긍정적인 경험을 할 수 있었고, 보컬은 음악을 즐기고 자신이 좋아하는 음악 활동을 통해 이후 더 다양한 장르에서의 음악 활동을 계획할 수 있었다. 둘째, 밴드 구성원들은 직접 악기를 연주하고 곡을 완성해가는 과정을 통해 음악적 분석 능력을 기를 수 있었다. 구성원들은 원곡과 자신들의 연주를 비교하거나 합주를 마친 후 피드백을 통해 리듬, 화음, 템포, 소리의 질 등을 평가하고 분석하였다. 또한 구성원들은 자신의 소리뿐만 아니라 타인의 소리를 주의 깊게 들으며 총체적인 평가와 분석 능력이 향상되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 더불어 밴드 구성원들은 음악 활동에서 의사소통 할 때 언어를 사용할 뿐만 아니라 음악 고유의 상징을 사용하여 의사소통 하였다. 구성원들은 자신의 음악적 의견을 표현할 때 직접적인 악기를 사용하였으며, 다양한 악기에 따른 구음을 사용하여 직접적으로 음악적 표현을 나타내었다. 이러한 비언어적 표현과 더불어 공동체 안에서 사용되는 공동체 언어가 생겨나는 현상을 확인 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 밴드 활동은 음악적 상호작용을 통해 구성원들 간의 정서적 지지와 보살핌, 서로에 대한 이해, 소속감과 친밀감을 느끼게 해주었다. 특히 구성원들은 서로에 대한 이해가 증가하여 각 구성원에 대한 특성과 성향에 대하여 자세하게 이야기 할 수 있었다. 더불어 동아리 내 선후배와의 상호작용으로 인한 의미 있는 경험을 통해 더 넓은 공동체를 형성할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 대부분의 사람들이 쉽게 접하고 즐기기 쉬운 대중음악을 활용한 밴드 동아리를 사례연구 방법으로 개인의 의미와 밴드 연습 과정, 그리고 사회적 정서를 분석한 연구로서 연구적 가치를 지닌다. 이미 많이 존재하고 있는 밴드 동아리에 대한 연구가 미비하며 밴드 활동의 효용성과 체계적인 프로그램에 대한 연구의 필요성에도 의의를 가진다. 삶과 밀접히 연관되어 있으며 흥미로운 요소를 지닌 대중음악을 통한 밴드 음악활동에 대한 관심과 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 밴드 동아리에 관한 다양한 프로그램이 개발되어 포괄적인 음악에 대한 인식이 많아지기를 기대한다. ;The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of musical experience on mutual decision making, community building, and individual’s meaningful experience in the students of college music band. As a qualitative case study, a deliberate sampling and participant observation was conducted on the 6 members of college music band in D university, Gyeongsangbuk-do , Korea. The participant observation period was from February 4th, 2018 to February 27th, 2018–18daysintotal, excluding NewYear’s holiday and student orientation day. Data was collected through video recording, observation records, and individual interviews, and the results were analyzed based on the Data Analysis Spiral suggested by Creswell(Creswell,2015). First, the musical experience through the band activity influenced the members’ future plans about their musical activity by providing a meaningful experience to them. Such experience provided a step stone for their realizing the necessity of gaining basic musical skills and making self-motivated practice plan and led them to explore various musical genres. Second, the band members developed a musical analysis ability through the process of playing musical instruments and perfecting songs. They evaluated and analyzed rhythm, chord, tempo, and sound by comparing the original song and their performance or getting feedback. Also, the members’ overall evaluation and analysis ability enhanced through the process of mindful listening to their own and others’ sounds. Also, the band members communicated in their musical activity using not only the language but also the symbols unique to music. They used the musical instruments directly to express their musical opinion, and made musical expressions directly by vocalizing variable instruments. The phenomenon of community language forming along with nonverbal expression was observed. Third, the band activity allowed the members to fell the emotional support and care among the members, understanding of each other, and the sense of belonging and intimacy through musical interaction. Especially, the members’ understanding of each other increased and they could talk in detail about each members’ characteristics and tendencies. Also, they could form a large community through the meaningful experience of the interaction with the upper and lower classmates. This study has a significance as a case study that analyzed the band practice process and its meaning to the community and individuals by observing a student music band and uses popular music that is easily accessible and enjoyable by most people. Also, it has a significance as there in little research on the student music band despite their prevalence and there is a necessity of the research on the utility of the band activity and systematic programs. This study expect further more active research should be done on and attention paid to the band music activity through a popular music that is closely related to people’s lives and has interesting factors, and various band music programs should be developed and enhance the public’s comprehensive understanding of music.
