Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 졸업 리사이틀 프로그램으로 레베카 클라크(Rebecca Helferich Clarke, 1886-1979)의 ｢비올라와 피아노를 위한 소나타 (Sonata for Viola and Piano)｣와 라이네케(Carl Heinrich Reinecke, 1824-1910)의 ｢비올라와 피아노를 위한 3개의 환상곡(Drei Phantasiestűcke for Viola and Piano Op.43)｣, 그리고 비외탕(Henry Vieuxtemps, 1820-1881)의 ｢비올라와 피아노를 위한 소나타 B♭장조(Sonata for Viola and Piano in B♭Major, Op.36)｣에 대한 각 작곡가의 생애와 음악적 특징 그리고 전체적인 작품 분석에 관한 연구이다. 클라크는 19세기 말에서 20세기 초 여성이 음악계에서 활동하기 힘들었던 시대에 여성 음악가로써 인정받고 활동한 영국 출신의 작곡가이자 비올리스트이다. 그녀의 대표작인 ⌜Sonata for Viola and Piano⌟는 1919년에 완성된 작품으로 총 3악장으로 구성되어있다. 이 곡에는 드뷔시의 인상주의적 특징이 잘 드러나 있으며 복잡한 리듬, 풍부하고 두터운 화성으로 구성되어있다. 같은 주제 선율이 서로 다른 악장을 순환하는 순환기법을 사용하여 전체에 강한 통일감을 주는 것이 특징이다. 이 작품에는 후기낭만주의 음악의 모습도 보이며 선율과 리듬 사용에서 영국의 목가적인 선율을 재현하여 5도, 3도 도약 진행을 사용한 민속 음악의 영향도 나타난다. 그녀의 작품은 진보적인 작곡 성향을 가지면서도 고전적인 특색을 잃지 않은 다양한 양식의 혼합이다. 라이네케는 19세기 독일 낭만파 작곡가이다. 그가 1844년에 작곡한 비올라와 피아노를 위한 3개의 환상곡 ⌜Drei Phantasiestűcke Op.43⌟은 3개의 악장으로 구성되어있으며 슈만의 그림동화책(Märchenbilder)의 판타지 형식의 영향을 받아 화성이 유사하게 진행된다. 이 곡은 H. M. Schmitz 영사에게 헌정되었으며 유연한 멜로디와 따뜻한 소리를 가지면서 웅장한 면도 보인다. 19세기의 독일 낭만적 감성을 느낄 수 있는 작품이다. 비외탕은 프랑코-벨기에 악파의 비르투오소 바이올린 연주자이자 작곡가이다. 그의 가장 유명한 비올라 작품인 ⌜Sonata for Viola and Piano in B♭Major, Op.36⌟는 비올라의 음색에 잘 어울리게 작곡되었다. 전체적으로 서정적인 선율과 기교적인 부분이 적절히 조화되어있으며. 비올라의 기교적인 측면을 돋보이게 하는 그의 세밀하고 정교한 작곡 능력을 살펴볼 수 있다. 이 곡은 현재까지도 낭만 시대의 중요한 비올라 작품으로 인정받고 있다. ;This is an annotated program note of my graduation recital which includes each composer’s biographies and analytical studies of Rebecca Helferich Clarke’s Sonata for Viola and Piano, Carl Heinrich Reinecke’s Drei Phantasiestücke for Viola and Piano, Op. 43, and Henry Vieuxtemps’ Sonata for Viola and Piano in B♭ Major, Op. 36. R. Clarke is a female composer and violist from the United Kingdom who was active from the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. Women were restricted in musical societies at that time, but she was recognized as a brilliant musician. Sonata for Viola and Piano, her representative work, was composed in 1919 and consists of three movements. This work well represents impressionistic features of Debussy, and includes complex rhythms and rich harmonies. She employed the thematic-cycling technique—a thematic melody appears in each movement of a work—so that she could achieve a solid coherence in this work. Moreover, on the one hand, this work shows the aspects of the late Romanticism but on the other hand, it presents the features of folk music and British pastoral melodies such as using intervals of fifth or third. C. Reinecke is a German composer of the nineteenth century. His Drei Phantasiestücke, Op. 43 in 1844 consists of three movements. It follows the fantasy form of Robert Schumann’s Märchenbilder, so it employs similar harmonic progressions of Märchenbilder. This work was dedicated to H. M. Schmitz, a consul, and represented fluid melodies, warm sounds, and splendid aspects. Thus, it shows the German Romanticism of the nineteenth century. H. Vieuxtemps is a Franco-Belgian virtuoso violin player and composer. Sonata for Viola and Piano in B♭ major, Op. 36, the most representative work of him, is composed to be well matched to the sound of the viola. It makes the balance between lyrical melodies and the skillful aspects, so it shows his delicate and fine composition techniques while it emphasizes the skillful aspects of the viola. This work is still recognized as an important repertoire of viola of the Romanticism period.
