악기지원사업에 참여한 초등학생들의 경험에 대한 의미 탐색

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences of elementary school students participating in the musical instrument support project which is operated nationwide as part of the policy for revitalizing arts education in schools. For this purpose, data were collected and analyzed through participant observation and interviews with students of A elementary school in Seoul, where the researchers are lecturers of musical instrument support projects. The results of the research were as follows. First, students who have learned violin through instrument-supported lessons are encouraged to develop emotions such as self-confidence, self-efficacy, and teamwork. Second, the findings of this study showed that students are able to cultivate their art appreciation ability through instrument-supported lessons. Students were able to discover that they enjoyed the art by learning about the violin, discovering the joy of it, using the internet to listen to the professional violin, or enjoying the violin concert with the family. In addition, the research found that the interest in the overall music, including violin, deepened. Third, instrument-supported lessons improved students ability to play musical instruments by providing them with opportunities to directly learn musical instrument performance. Unlike the violin lesson of the after school program, which was a similar class, the research has found the reasons for the improvement of the musical performance due to the specificity of the instrument support class. Therefore, this study suggested to the school that the Ministry of Education and the Office of Education, which administers the project, gave the school a concrete plan for selecting the students whose motivation has been confirmed clearly. In addition, students who participate in the class develop a flexible teaching plan that could change the level and goals of learning to the pace of their progress during the semester and encourage them to teach the school and instructors. This suggested that students build their self-confidence and self-efficacy and encourage them to achieve their own speed improvements. Finally, the Ministry of Education must provided a direct opportunity for the students to express and cultivate their artistic enjoyment ability by supplementing the budget or by linking with the community to support the listening time of the concert. Based on this research, it was expected that the musical instrument support project will improve the quality of the classroom contents and students musical instruments by seeking improvement direction and increasing the business effect.;본 연구는 학교예술교육활성화 정책의 일환으로 전국적으로 시행 및 운영되고 있는 악기지원사업에 참여한 초등학생들의 경험에 대한 의미를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 연구자가 악기지원사업의 프로그램 강사로 출강하고 있는 서울시의 A초등학교의 학생들을 대상으로 참여관찰과 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째로, 악기지원 수업으로 바이올린을 배운 학생들은 그 경험을 통해 자신감, 자아효능감, 협동심 등의 인성 및 정서의 함양이 일어나는 것으로 드러났다. 학생들은 바이올린이라는 악기의 모습과 자신이 악기를 연주할 수 있다는 사실, 대여 받은 악기로 수업에서 배운 연주를 수업 외 다른 발표시간에서 성공적으로 발표하는 일들을 통해서 자신감이 상승하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학생들은 바이올린이 어려운 악기라고 인식함으로 인해 자신이 수업 진도에 맞추어 곡을 연주할 수 있게 되었을 때나 발표연주회를 무사히 마쳤을 때 자아효능감과 성취감을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 반대로 바이올린 연주의 어려움으로 인해 학습의지가 낮아지고 자아효능감이 낮아지는 경우도 발견되었다. 학생들은 또한 단체수업으로 이루어지는 악기지원 수업을 통해 수업 내 연습시간에 서로의 자세와 소리를 교정해주고 교실 내 몸이 불편한 학우를 이해하고 그와 함께 연습하여 발표회를 치르는 경험 등을 통해 협동심이 자라는 모습을 발견할 수 있었다. 둘째로, 학생들은 악기지원 수업을 경험하며 예술향유능력이 배양되는 것으로 드러났다. 바이올린을 배우며 바이올린 연주 자체에 대한 관심이 높아져 인터넷을 이용하여 전문가의 바이올린 연주를 감상하거나 가족과 함께 바이올린 음악회를 보러가 즐거움을 느끼는 모습 등을 통해 예술을 향유하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 바이올린을 포함한 음악의 전반에 대한 관심과 호감이 깊어지는 변화가 나타났다. 셋째로, 악기지원 수업은 학생들에게 직접적인 악기 연주능력 습득 기회를 제공함으로써 학생들의 악기 연주능력을 향상 시켰는데, 유사한 수업인 방과후학교의 바이올린 수업과는 달리, 연구를 통해 악기지원 수업의 특수성에서 비롯된 실력향상의 원인들을 찾을 수 있었다. 먼저, 학생들이 악기지원사업을 통해 재정적인 부담 없이 악기를 무료로 지원받고 교육받음으로 바이올린 및 전문적인 악기교육을 처음으로 경험하며 이전에는 알지 못했던 자신의 음악적 재능을 발견하였으며 발견된 재능은 실력향상으로 자연스럽게 이어지는 경우들을 발견하였다. 또한 학생들은 악기지원사업에서 강조하고 있는 발표회 경험을 통해 이를 준비하며 발표하는 과정에서 실력이 급격히 향상되는 경험을 하였으며 악기의 지원기간과 수업기간이 1년으로 한정되어있다는 사실에 동기를 부여받아 더욱 열심히 수업에 임하는 모습도 확인할 수 있었다. 한편, 악기지원 수업은 현재 악기지원사업의 정책상 악기를 배우겠다는 동기부여가 이루어지지 않은 학생도 학부모가 자녀의 참여를 희망할 경우 수업에 참여 지원할 수 있으며 이렇게 강제적으로 참여한 학생은 연주실력 향상이 어려웠음이 연구에서 발견되면서 실력향상을 위한 동기부여의 중요성을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구자는 학교예술교육활성화 정책의 취지와 목적에 부합한 의미를 학생들로 하여금 경험하게 하고 있는 악기지원사업을, 이에 참여하는 학교와 학생들이 더욱 긍정적인 시간으로 발전시킬 수 있도록 사업을 주관하는 교육부와 교육청이 학생들의 정서와 실력이 더욱 향상될 수 있는 다양한 프로그램들을 개발할 것을 제안하였다. 또한 악기지원 수업을 통해 악기를 배우고자 하는 동기부여가 명확히 이루어진 것이 확인된 학생들을 수업에 우선적으로 선발시킬 수 있는 구체적인 방안을 학교 측에 제시하여 학교가 이를 시행하도록 제안하였다. 더불어 수업에 참여하는 학생들이 학기 중에도 자신의 실력향상 속도에 맞게 학습 수준과 목표를 변화시킬 수 있는 탄력 있는 수업지도안을 개발하고 학교 및 강사에게 권장하여 학생들이 자신감과 자아효능감을 쌓으며 자신만의 알맞은 속도의 실력 향상을 일궈낼 수 있도록 유도할 것을 제안하였다. 마지막으로 교육부는 악기지원사업의 강조점으로 학생들이 방학 기간 등을 활용하여 강사 및 지도교사와 함께 연주회를 감상하는 체험의 시간을 권장하고 예산 추가편성 혹은 지역사회와의 연계를 통해 연주회 감상 시간을 지원함으로써 학생의 예술향유의 능력이 발현되고 배양될 수 있는 직접적인 계기를 마련할 것을 제안하였다. 이에 따라 본 연구를 바탕으로 악기지원사업이 개선 방향을 모색하고 사업 효과를 증대시켜 교실 안에서의 수업 내용 및 학생들의 악기 경험을 질적으로 향상시키기를 기대한다.
