Transcription of the two genomes in developmentally arrested sea urchin hybrid embryos

Abstract

We cannot provide evidence as to mechanisms to account for the results that the messages are available but many paternal proteins are not made in the hybrid embryos. It is clear, however, that in these hybrid embryos, which are blocked in gastrulation, the cause for the morphogenetic arrest is not failure of both sets of genes to be transcribed nor failure of these messages to be introduced into polysomes.
