가톨릭(Catholic) 도자 성물 제작에 관한 연구

Abstract

종교와 미술은 오래전부터 아주 밀접한 관련이 있다. 종교에서 미술의 영역은 없어져서는 안될 만큼 크게 발전해 왔으며 과거에 비해 오늘날 더 다양해지고 여전히 많은 관심과 주목을 받고 있다. 종교와 미술, 즉 교회와 미술은 서로를 필요로 하고 있고 우리나라의 교회가 점차 성장함에 따라 교회미술도 오랜 세월에 걸쳐 지속적으로 변모해왔다. 하지만 교회미술이 발전함에 따라 오늘날 가장 큰 문제점은 가톨릭교회의 성(聖)미술품인 성물(聖物)이 복제품처럼, 즉‘제품화’되어 쉽게 만들어져 유통되고 있다는 것이다. 또한 대부분의 성물들이 신앙과 관계없는 사람들이 상업적인 목적으로 대량생산 방식으로 만들어 판매하고 있기 때문에 성물의 가치는 더 떨어질 수밖에 없고 고유성과 창조성마저 잃은 채 제품화 되어가고 있는 것이다. 성물은 성물을 제작하는 작가가 묵상과 기도를 통해 작품을 고안하고 훌륭한 재료를 선택하여 수개월에서 길게는 수년간의 제작 기간을 거쳐 제작된다. 그러나 신자들이 성물 판매소를 통해 구입하는 성물 중에는 이런 과정을 거친 제품보다는 대량생산으로 만들어진 복제품인 경우가 대부분이다. 성물은 신자들에게 있어 굉장히 중요한 물건이다. 성물을 구입하는 신자들은 자신이 그 성물을 직접 사용함으로써 신심을 도울 수 있길 바라고 기도로 성찰하며 오래도록 간직하기 때문에 귀하게 여겨지는 물건이다. 그렇기 때문에 성물은 지극한 정성으로 품위있고 아름답게 만들어져야한다. 이에 본 연구자는 가톨릭 교회의 성(聖)미술품인 성물을 보다 심도있게 제작함으로서 신자들에게 신앙심과 종교에 대한 믿음을 보다 더 높일 수 있도록 아름답고 성스럽게 제작하며, 신자들 뿐만 아니라 비신자들도 거부감 없이 접할 수 있도록 간결하지만 다양한 디자인으로 도자성물을 제작하는 것에 목적을 두었다. 연구를 위해 먼저 가톨릭교회와 성물의 역사를 알아보았고 성물의 종류와 용도에 대해 조사하였으며, 각 작품마다 가톨릭교회의 상징이 되는 대표적인 이미지를 자유롭게 디자인하여 고유성과 창의성이 돋보일 수 있도록 제작하였다. 이를 토대로 연구자가 원하는 온화함과 정결함, 그리고 소박하지만 아름다움이 담긴 도자성물을 연구하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 연구자는 단순히 반복적인 디자인으로 유통되어지는 성물이 아닌 신자들이 보았을 때 성물로서의 가치 가 느껴지고 신앙생활에 많은 도움을 주는 성(聖)미술품으로 자리 잡기를 기대하며 한국 천주교회의 성(聖)미술 발전에도 많은 관심을 가지기를 희망한다. 또한 연구자는 성물의 의미와 가치를 바로알고 많은 작가들과 성물에 관심이 있는 모든 이들에게 큰 도움이 되기를 바란다.;Religion and Art have been closely related to each other since long ago. In the area of ​​art in religion has developed to such an extent that it will not disappear, compared to the past, it has become more diverse today and attracts much attention and attention. The church as a religion are mutually necessary with art, as the church in Korea gradually grows, art of the church has been constantly transformed over the years. However, with the development of church art, the biggest problem today is that the objects that are the sacred works of the Catholic Church like clones are "commercialized" and easily made and distributed. In addition, because most of the sacred things are made and sold for commercial purposes by people who have nothing to do with faith, the value of sacred things is inevitably lowered and they are being commercialized with losing even uniqueness and creativity. The sacred things are produced by the sacred creator devising a work through contemplation and prayer and selecting a great material. It takes at least several months to several years to be produced. However, most of the sacred things that believers purchase at the holy place are clones made for mass production rather than products made through such processes. The sacred things are considered precious and significant for believers. Because they want to be able to help with devotion by using it and reflect on prayer and keep it for a long time. Therefore, the sacred things must be made elegantly and beautifully. Thus, the main purpose of this paper is to produce ceramic sacred things beautifully and deeply to raise beliefs to not only believers, but also non-believers and to be able to touch without any sense of resistance. For the research, I first looked at the history of the Catholic church and sacred things and investigated the type and use of the things. Each work designed to freely design a representative image that is a symbol of the cahtolic church, and to make it stand out with uniqueness and creativity. Based on this research, I attempted to study ceramic sacred things filled with not only warmth and neatness but also simple beauty. Through this study, we expect to produce the sacred things to present the value as itself and to help the faith for believers. This study also aims to contribute to the development of sacred art in the Korean Catholic church and help all those who are interested in sacred art.
