자작나무 이미지를 이용한 Surface Design 연구

Abstract

오늘날 우리가 살고 있는 이 사회는 급속한 기계적 산업화의 발달로 개체의 다양성을 무시한 채 빠른 경제 성장과 과학 기술을 이룩해왔다. 그로 인해 현대인들의 가치관과 생활 방식은 인공적인 것을 향유할 수밖에 없게 되었다. 하지만 시간이 지날수록 환경이 급변하고 모든 것이 필요이상으로 넘쳐나게 됨에 따라 우리는 인공 구조물이 익숙한 환경에서 탈피하려 노력하게 되었고, 자연에서 그 해답을 찾기 시작했다. 우리는 자연 속에서 평안함을 찾고 그 속에서 위안을 얻고자 한다. 그것은 인류가 가진 자연물에 대한 경외심으로부터 출발했다. 예술분야에서도 자연에서 평안함을 찾고자 하는 움직임이 지속 되면서 이전처럼 자연에서 겸허하게 배우는 예술을 표방한 운동인 라파엘전파라든지, 자연의 대상을 있는 그대로 묘사하는 자연주의(自然主義) 개념이 강조된다. 겸허하고 치장되지 않은 스타일이 등장하며 가공을 거치지 않은 원시적인 소재의 사용으로 고요하지만 깊이 있어 보이는 면을 보여주곤 한다. 연구자는 이러한 자연에서 찾은 소재와 이미지를 우리의 주거 환경 속에 대입하여 삶의 평안함을 되찾고자 했다. 그렇기 때문에 심적으로 안정감을 주는 새하얀 자작나무 이미지를 선택하였다. 나무는 우리가 만날 수 있는 자연물 중 가장 광범위하며 오랜 시간동안 인류의 예술적 영감에 많은 영향을 주었고 주제로 사용되어왔다. 그 예로 과거에도 항상 나무는 생명과 풍요의 상징으로 받아들여졌으며 인류 문화의 전 범위에 걸쳐 생명의 근원이 되는 개체이다. 나무는 어디에나 있으며 기계적인 삶에 지친 현대인들의 일상 속에도 언제나 주변엔 나무가 존재한다. 그래서 본 연구자는 다양한 자연물 나무 중에서도‘자작나무’에 집중하기로 했다. 도시를 등지고 새하얀 자작나무를 보고 있자면 청량하다 못해 가슴이 뻥 뚫림을 느낄 수 있다. 더 나아가 여유로움과 평화로운 삶까지 꿈꾸게 해주는데, 하늘을 향하여 길게 꼿꼿이 서 있는 모습은 마치 자연은 언제나 우리와 함께 있다는 굳건한 믿음마저 보여주는 듯하다. 본 연구자는 그 감정의 연장선으로 ‘삶’과‘자유’의 단어를 찾게 되었고 지친 현대인들의 삶의 쉼표를 주고 싶었다. 이러한 점에서 본 연구는 자작나무에서 찾을 수 있는 외형들이나 표피의 특징을 이미지화하고, 아트패브릭으로 접목시켜 조형적으로 재구성 시켰으며 자작나무의 순수한 색감과 질감을 연구하고 작품의 주된 소재로 선택한 천연 소재인 양모 펠트(Felt)에 대해 연구했다. 논리적 필연성이 아닌 우연성이 짙은 예술작품으로 자연 그 자체 이상을 작품 세계에 녹여내고 싶었다. 본 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다. 총 31점의 작품제작을 통해 자작나무를 재발견하고 작품을 통하여 현대인들에게 쉼을 건네주며, 다시금 삶의 가치를 동시에 누릴 수 있는 계기가 되었기를 기대한다.;The society we live in today has achieved substantial economic growth and technological innovation, in mechanical industrialization without concerning individual differences. This rapid development forces people away from natural values and lifestyle. As the society has gradually changed and everything became overflowing with necessity, we tried to get away from the artificial surroundings and started to find the meaning of life in nature. We seek to find peace and comfort in nature. This experience begins from the awe of mother nature. As finding peace in nature progressively continues in the field of arts and the movements such as, naturalism and Raphael preaching have emerged to emphasize the art of humble learning in nature as before. It has a humble and untouched style, and it uses a primitive material that has not yet been processed to show a still but deep look. The researcher tried to restore the peace of life by substituting the materials and images found in nature from the residential environment. The image of a birch with fresh white hermit was chosen to express natural and relaxed life. Trees are the most widespread natural objects we can encounter and have long been used as a theme and influence on the artistic inspiration of mankind. In the past, trees have always been accepted as symbol of life and abundance throughout the entire range of human culture. Trees are everywhere. They provide peace and comfort for those exhausted from race of the mechanical life. Hence, the researcher decided to concentrate on 'birch' among various natural trees. If you are looking at a pure white birch within the city, you may be able to feel relaxation and peaceful life. Standing upright toward the sky seems to show even a firm belief that nature is always with us. The researcher was able to pinpoint the word 'life' and 'freedom' as an extension of feeling and tried to provide meaning of life in relax for the weary people. From this point of view, this study has researched the pure color and texture of birch and selected the natural material, Felt as the main material of the work. The ideal of nature itself as a contemporary artistic work has been more focused rather than logical inevitability. The contents of this study are as follows: Thirty-one artworks are produced to rediscover the birch and deliver the meaning and value of life in nature again.
