재활용 플라스틱 아트(Recycled Plastic Art)를 응용한 핸드백 디자인 연구

Abstract

현대사회가 첨단화되고 편리한 생활을 추구하면서 일회용 플라스틱이 남용되고 있다. 현실적으로 전 세계 플라스틱 생산량의 95% 정도는 재활용되지 않고 있다. 현대인들은 일회용 플라스틱으로 인한 환경오염의 심각성을 인식하고 인류에게 위협적인 존재가 되어버린 플라스틱의 바람직한 소비를 유도하며 재활용하는 대책 방안들이 제시되고 있다. 환경 보전에 대한 관심과 노력, 실천으로 인해 효용가치를 발견하고 폐플라스틱을 재활용하는 독창적인 예술 행위로써 경각심을 일깨우고 있다. 또한 다양한 분야의 기업들이 폐플라스틱을 재활용하며 환경 보전에 대한 책임을 선도하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 재활용 플라스틱 아트를 응용하여 꽃의 형태와 색채에서 보여지는 조형성을 표현하고 핸드백 디자인과 결합하고자 하였다. 모티프로 선정한 꽃은 방사선형과 겹꽃의 풍성한 형태를 띄고 있으며, 꽃의 화색은 유사색의 조화와 보색대비의 색채조화를 이루고 있다. 이러한 꽃의 조형적 요소를 작품에 도입함에 있어서 주재료로 폐플라스틱을 재활용하고 열 수축에 의한 변형 기법과 염색, 잉크 스탬핑, 긁기 등의 기법을 활용하여 꽃의 사실적인 표현하고 플라스틱 꽃잎을 여러겹 중첩하여 풍성하고 입체적인 형태로 제작하였다. 그리고 플라스틱 꽃을 핸드백 표면에 자연스러운 군집을 이루도록 단위형태로 배치하여 부조적인 입체 표면을 창출하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 꽃의 조형성을 표현함과 동시에 폐플라스틱을 재활용 하는 독특한 핸드백 디자인을 창출함으로써 재활용 플라스틱 아트의 효용가치를 높이고 핸드백 디자인의 표현영역을 확대하는 데에 있다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인터넷 매체와 문헌을 통해 재활용 플라스틱 아트의 정의와 특징을 알아보고 섬세한 표현을 위해 플라스틱의 종류와 성질을 분석하였다. 또한 재활용 아트와 재활용 플라스틱 아트의 디자인 사례를 살펴보고자 한다. 둘째, 꽃 이미지와 디자인의 관계성과 꽃의 조형적 분석을 통해 꽃의 구조를 살펴보고 형태와 색채 질감을 분석한다. 꽃 이미지를 응용한 핸드백 디자인 사례를 문헌 자료와 선행연구, 시장조사를 통해 각 기준에 따른 꽃 이미지에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 이를 토대로 재활용 플라스틱 아트를 응용하여 꽃 이미지를 표현한 본 연구자의 작품은 열 수축에 의한 변형과 염색 등의 기법을 활용하여 플라스틱 꽃 오브제를 제작하고 핸드백 디자인과 결합하여 꽃의 입체적인 형태와 색감을 효과적으로 나타내고자 한다. 작품은 총 9점으로 구성하였으며 토트백(Tote bag) 6점, 팬케이크백(Pancake bag) 3점으로 총 9점의 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 재활용 플라스틱 아트는 다양한 표현방법으로 조형화 하는 전문 영역으로써 환경보전은 물론이고 폐기물을 소생하여 효용가치가 높은 아름다운 예술 분야로 확립되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 재활용 플라스틱 꽃을 제작함에 있어서 투명성과 불투명성 소재의 질감대비를 활용하고 플라스틱 소재의 광택감을 응용한 결과 꽃의 화려하고 장식적인 이미지를 극대화 할 수 있었으며 플라스틱 특유의 투명성으로 인해 부드럽고 연한 꽃잎의 질감과 같은 착시 효과를 줄 수 있었다. 또한 긁기 기법과 잉크 스탬핑을 사용하여 폐플라스틱 표면에 잎맥을 섬세하게 새겨 넣는 새로운 텍스쳐 표현 방법을 발견할 수 있었다. 셋째, 작품의 표현 기법에 있어서 폐플라스틱의 열 수축에 의한 변형 기법은 꽃의 유기적인 곡선과 조형성, 부조적 입체감을 표현하기에 적합하였다. 겹꽃을 모티프로 한 플라스틱 꽃들을 꽃잎이 여러 겹 되도록 중첩하여 제작한 결과 외곽선이 자유롭고 율동적이며 꽃 중심을 풍성한 표면감을 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 플라스틱 꽃의 다채로운 색채를 작품에 표현하였다. 꽃과 잎의 색채에 나타난 유사색의 조화와 보색대비 효과는 여성스럽고 부드러운 이미지를 표현하기에 적합하였다. 또한 플라스틱 꽃잎이 지닌 투명성의 정도에 따라 플라스틱 꽃 오브제의 꽃잎이 중첩되는 중심 부위 색감이 진해짐에 의해 꽃의 깊이감과 입체감이 도드라지는 효과가 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 꽃의 조형성을 분석하고 재활용 플라스틱 아트를 응용하여 플라스틱 꽃 오브제로 제작하였다. 플라스틱 꽃과 핸드백 디자인을 결합시킴으로써 새로운 표현 방법과 발전 가능성을 발견하였다. 그리고 본 연구를 통하여 플라스틱 아트의 분야에 있어서 재활용 플라스틱 아트의 개념을 설정하고 그 위치를 효용가치와 희소가치를 지닌 아트의 한 전문분야로 확립하는 데에 기여할 수 있었다. 환경오염의 경각심을 일깨우며 폐플라스틱을 재활용하는 방법을 통해 환경 개선을 위한 대책 방안을 제시할 수 있었다. 또한 재활용 플라스틱 아트와 핸드백 장르의 결합으로 새로운 가치와 예술 표현을 위한 윤리적인 디자인 개발 시도가 앞으로 꾸준히 지속되기를 바란다.;Disposable plastics are abused as modern society pursues advanced and convenient life. In reality, about 95% of the world’s plastic production is not recycled. Modern people are aware of the seriousness of environmental pollution caused by disposable plastics and measures to induce a desirable amount of consumption of plastic, which has become a threat to mankind, have been suggested. Its awareness has been rising through original art activities as well as interest, effort, and practice that discover utility values of recycled plastics. In addition, companies in a wide range of sectors are recycling waste plastics and leading the way in environmental responsibility. In this study, the art of recycled plastic is applied to express formality in flower form and color and to combine with the design of a handbag. The flowers selected as motifs are in the radial and layered form and the flower colors are harmonized in similar and complementary colors. In introducing the formative elements of these flowers to the works, waste plastics were recycled as main material and realistic expressions of flowers were made using techniques of deformation by heat shrinkage, dyeing, ink stamping, and scratching. Plenty of plastic petals were stacked to make a rich, three-dimensional shape. Plastic flowers were then arranged in unit forms to form a natural cluster on the surface of the handbag, creating a coherent three-dimensional surface. The purpose of this study is to enhance the utility value of recycled plastic art and to expand the expression area of handbag design by creating a unique handbag design that expresses formability of flowers and recycles waste plastics. The content and method of this study are as follows. First, the definitions and characteristics of recycled plastic art were analyzed through Internet media and literature and the types and properties of plastics were analyzed for delicate expression. Examples of recycled art and recycled plastic art were also examined. Second, the structure, shape, and color texture of flower were analyzed by examining the relationship between flower image and design as well as the formative analysis of the flower. The purpose of this study is to investigate the design of handbags using flower images based on literature data, prior studies, and market research. Based on this, the artist’s work expressing the flower image by applying the recycled plastic art through techniques such as deformation and dyeing by heat shrinkage aims to produce the plastic flower object combined with the handbag design in order to effectively show the three-dimensional shape and color of the flower. The work consists of nine pieces in total with six pieces of tote bag and three pieces of pancake bag were produced. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the thermoplastic waste plastic which can be recycled was used as the main material by theoretically considering recycled plastic art. Recycled plastic art is a specialized field that is shaped by various expression methods and it was concluded that it is a beautiful field of art field with high utility value by reviving waste as well as preserving the environment. Second, plastic flowers used in the works that express harmoniousness and contrast effect of transparent and opaque material. The shininess of the plastic material was used to maximize the colorful and decorative image of the flower and visual effect caused the illusion of soft and light texture. A new texture representation method that uses a scratching technique and ink stamping was also discovered to delicately engrave the veins of leaves on the surface of the waste plastic. Third, it was suitable to express the organic curves, formability, and copulative three-dimensionality of flowers through transformations caused by heat shrinkage of waste plastics in the expression technique of the works. Plastic flowers made of layered flowered motifs can be expressed as multi-layered petals so that the outline is free and rhythmic and the center of the flower is full. Fourth, the color of the work is expressed in the work centering on the color combination of the gorgeous color. It is suitable for expressing feminine and soft image due to the harmony of similar colors and contrasting effects of complementary colors. Also, depending on the degree of transparency of plastic petals, the central part where the petals are superimposed on the plastic flower could enhance the color, thereby expressing the depth and three-dimensionality of the flower. This study analyzed the formability of flowers and applied the recycled plastic art to make plastic objects. By combining plastic flower and handbag designs, new ways of expression and development were discovered. The study also contributes to the results obtained through the research for expanding the area as a specialized field of recycled plastic art with utility value and rare value. Ways to improve the environment through recycling of waste plastics by raising awareness of environmental pollution were also suggested. In addition, the combination of recycled plastic art and handbag genres should continue to develop ethical designs for new value and artistic expression. Since there are limitations on the adhesion of plastic materials and other materials, if this research continues on the development of secure decoration techniques and expression methods, it will be possible to innovate based on the originality and the rare value while still considering the environment.
