유년기의 기억을 표현한 도자조형 연구

Abstract

모든 생명체는 시간의 흐름 속에서 태어나고 죽는다. 그중 인간은 자신이 살아온 시간을 기억함으로써 스스로를 인식한다. 이에 많은 예술가들은 각자의 방식으로 기억을 시각화함으로써 스스로를 드러낸다. 그런데 인간은 자신이 살아온 모든 시간을 기억할 수 없고, 기억하는 주체의 시점은 시시각각 변하기도 한다. 그러므로 우리는 지금 이 순간 떠오르는 것을 지극히 주관적으로 기억하게 된다. 특히 잊고 있었던 과거의 시간은 우리가 불러일으키기 전까지는 내면 깊숙한 곳에 파편처럼 누적되어 있다가 기억하는 주체의 경험과 감정 등을 통해 심상(心象)화되어 드러나게 된다. 본 연구에서 필자는 그간 망각하고 있던 본인의 유년기 기억들을 상기하고 유년기의 심상적 기억을 도자 조형으로 시각화 하였다. 루돌프 아른하임(Rudolf Arnheim, 1904-2007)은 예술가에 있어서 기억은 정신적 사상이 되며 동시에 작품 창작의 주제나 소재가 된다고 말한다. 즉 많은 예술가에게 있어 기억이란 창작의 영감을 주는 세계이며 대상이라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 먼저, 기억에 관한 일반적 고찰을 통해 심상적 기억의 개념 및 속성을 알아보고자한다. 연구자는 유년기 기억을 표현하기 위하여 축적과 중첩, 색소지, 샤모트, 연리문 등을 방법론을 고찰하고, 이러한 방법에 의해 만들어진 일련의 작품들을 해설하려한다. 본 연구자의 유년기 기억에 관한 주제는 크게 세 가지로 분류 할 수 있으며, 그것은 ‘유년기에 살았던 곳과 연계된 기억’, ‘즐거운 놀이에 대한 기억’, ‘단짝 친구의 죽음에 대한 기억’이다. 이 세 가지 주제로 시각화된 연구 작품들을 살펴보며 연구자의 개인적이고 주관적인 유년기 기억이 어떻게 시각화되었는지 고찰하고자 한다. 이 연구를 통해 본 연구자의 유년기의 심상적 기억을 조형화함으로써 어린 시절의 소중하고 값진 순간들을 재인식 하고 정체성 확립을 이루고자 한다. 특히 흙을 이용한 표현방법에 시각적 연구를 통해 연구자가 앞으로 작품 활동을 계속하는데 있어서 보다 심도 있는 표현이 가능해지고 창작의 원동력이 얻어지기를 기대하는 바이다.;Every living creature is born and dies as time has passed by. But human beings out of every living creature perceive themselves by remembering the time when they have been living in. Amid such a reality, artists exhibit themselves by visualizing their memories based on their individual way they pursue. However, human beings cannot remember all the time when they have been living, and the time points of the subject remembering something often change. Therefore, we remember what flashes through our minds at this moment, subjectively. Especially, the forgotten past time is left hidden deep down our hearts like a treasure until we bring it back to our memories, and exhibits itself like a mental imagery through experiences and emotions of the subject remembering. This researcher meant to recollect forgotten memories of youth and to visualize such mental imagery memories into ceramic formative fine arts. Rudolf Arnheim (1904-2007) said that for the part of artists, memory means mental ideas and the subject matters or materials of a creation of a work, at the same time. In other words, memory can be said to become the world and object that animates inspiration into creation, from the viewpoints of artists. In this regard, the purpose of this research study is to understand the concept and attributes of mental imagery memory through general consideration of memory. This researcher is going to express memories of youth by considering theories and methodology of accumulation, reiteration, color body, chamotte, marble pattern, and to interpret a series of works created based on such theories and methodology. The themes on memories of youth that this researcher has can be classified into three memories, 1) 'memory in association with the place where this researcher lived in youth,' 2) ' memory of joyful play,' 3) 'memory of the death of the close friend.' This study is to investigate visualized research works based on the three themes, and to consider how this researcher's individual and subjective memories of youth are visualized. By conducting this research, this researcher is going to embody mental imagery memories throughout childhood into formative fine arts, and remind of the valuable and important moments this researcher had in youth, and to establish identity. Above all, this researcher is going to conduct a visual study on expression methods using clay, under the expectation that more profound expression and insight on creation would be pursued and provided in the course of performing artworks constantly from now on.
