예비 학문 목적 한국어 학습자를 위한 장르 기반 쓰기 교재 개발

Abstract

교육부의 2011년 스터디 코리아 2020 프로젝트(Study Korea 2020 Project) 등 정부에서 추진한 각종 정책의 결과, 학문 목적 한국어 학습자 수는 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 이들의 학업 상황에서 가장 중요한 요소는 학문 목적이라는 특수성에 입각한 한국어 학습임에도 불구하고, 이러한 요구를 실제적으로 고려한 교수 방법과 교재는 충분하지 않은 상황이다. 외국인을 위한 한국어 강좌를 운영 중인 대학 및 각종 기관들이 많이 있음에도, 학문 목적 한국어 학습자를 위한 한국어 교육과정과 교재는 통일된 방향성 없이 개별 대학/기관별로 각기 다르게 운영되고 있다. 학문 목적 한국어 학습자의 요구를 조사한 분석 연구(김정숙, 2000; 김민재, 2004; 오유진, 2009)에 따르면 학문 목적 학습자들이 가장 어려움을 느끼며 필요하다고 생각하는 기능은 쓰기이다. 특히 학문 목적 학습자들이 가장 필요로 하는 한국어 교육은 보고서나 학위논문과 같은 학술적 글쓰기(김현진, 2011; 정다운, 2014; 박은선, 2014)인 것으로 조사되었으며, 실제 학문 공동체 내에서 많이 요구되는 글쓰기 능력은 다양한 표현의 사용(홍정현, 2005)이다. 최근 일부 대학에서는 학문 목적 한국어 쓰기를 선택적 정규 과정으로 개설하여 의사소통 능력, 실제적 쓰기 능력의 향상, 구체적인 과정 중심의 쓰기 전략(김성숙, 2015)에 초점을 맞추는 등 변화된 추세를 보이고 있다. 그러나 학문 목적 쓰기를 위한 쓰기 교수법의 제시와 활용은 여전히 부족한 실정이다. 특히 학업 수행에 있어 필수적인 학술적 쓰기의 필요성을 절감하는 다수의 외국인 유학생을 위해 학문 목적의 특수성을 고려한 한국어 쓰기 교재 개발이 시급하다. 본 포트폴리오는 학문 목적 한국어 학습자가 주로 접하게 되는 학술적 글쓰기 교재를 개발하기 위해 장르 기반 접근법의 이론을 반영하였다. 장르 기반 접근법은 특정 담화 공동체의 사회적 맥락에 따른 담화 구조를 보이는 특징을 가진다. 일반적인 쓰기와 달리 보고서나 학위논문과 같은 장르적 쓰기가 빈번한 학문 목적 학습자들은 한국어 텍스트의 장르적 특성을 우선적으로 파악해야 한다. 이에 쓰기 장르를 명시적으로 제시한 후 자주 쓰이는 표현을 구조에 맞게 연습하여 한국어 텍스트 장르에 부합하는 글을 쓸 수 있도록 하는 것에 교재 개발의 주안점을 두었다.;As a result of various policies implemented by the government such as ‘Study Korea 2020 Project’ in 2011 by Ministry of Education, the number of Korean learners for academic purposes is continuously increasing. Despite the needs based on the specificity, teaching methods and materials that take into account these particular needs are insufficient. Even though many universities and institutions run Korean language courses for international students, the Korean language curriculum and textbooks for the academic purposes are operated differently by individual universities and institutions without a systematic goal. According to the analytical studies (Kim, JS, 2000; Kim, MJ, 2004; Oh, YJ, 2009) that investigate the needs of Korean learners for academic purposes, writing is the most challenging and required function. In particular, most international students prioritize academic writing such as reports or theses(Kim, HJ, 2011; Jeong, DW, 2014). Also, Hong, JH(2005)’s study states that the use of various expressions is critical for academic writing. In recent years, some universities have changed their curriculum by focusing on communication skills and specific course-oriented writing strategies(Kim SS, 2015). However, there has to be more discussions and writing teaching methods related to the academic writing. Especially, it is crucial to develop Korean writing materials considering the specificity for a large number of international students. This portfolio reflects the theory of genre-based approach to developing academic writing materials that are mainly used by Korean learners. The genre–based approach has a feature of showing the discourse structure based on the social context of a particular discourse community. Students who are studying in the humanities and social sciences who have a lot of genre writing such as reports and dissertations should be skillful at the genre characteristics in Korean text. Therefore, this portfolio has focused on the development of textbooks by explicitly presenting the writing style and then practicing frequently used expressions so as to be able to write articles in Korean text.
