르네상스 회화에서의 공간개념에 따른 공간색채 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 회화에 있어 중요한 관계적 요인인 공간개념과 공간색채의 관계성을 통합적 측면에서 밝히는데 목적이 있다. 나아가 회화의 공간색채를 정량적으로 분석하여 후속 연구를 위한 자료로서 활용되고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구는 문헌고찰을 통해 르네상스 회화의 전반적인 공간개념 특성을 파악하고, 공간표현 유형 분석을 통해 외양적으로 드러나는 물리적 특성을 정리하여 공간색채 분석을 위한 기준을 마련하였다. 연구방법론적 객관성 및 변별력을 유지하기 위하여 분석 대상은 <artnewspaper>에서 선정한 서유럽의 5대 미술관을 통해 14~16세기 르네상스 회화 925점을 수집한 뒤, 5단계에 걸쳐 추가 수집 및 선별하여 최종적으로 유의미한 자료 210점을 선정하였다. 색채 분석은 작품 소장처의 공식 웹사이트에 업로드 된 이미지를 다운로드 받아 NCS 표색계를 통해 진행하였다. 이와 같은 방법으로 진행한 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 르네상스 회화에 나타난 전반적 공간개념은 인본주의적 공간개념으로, 작가들은 회화의 공간을 표현할 때 눈에 보이는 그대로를 나타내기 위해 색조 사용을 통하여 공간감과 입체적인 양감표현을 표현하였다. 반면 색상의 사용에서는 규칙적인 특징이 나타나지 않았다. 또한 이원적 사고에 의한 평면적 공간개념은 회화의 공간색채에서 불확실한 개념의 채도·명도 사용으로 나타났고, 통일적 사고에 근거한 입체적 공간개념은 완전한 계획에 의한 채도·명도 사용으로 나타났다. 르네상스 회화의 공간개념에 의한 공간색채 특성을 시대별로 살펴보면, 중세의 신학적 접근과 새로운 존재론적 사유가 혼합된 14세기 르네상스 시대의 공간개념은 회화의 공간색채에서 평면적, 균질적 색채로 나타났다. 15세기 르네상스는 현실 재현을 목적으로 수학적 규칙을 중시한 사실적 객관적 공간개념인데 반해 회화의 공간색채에서는 또렷한 특징이 드러나지 않았다. 즉 공간색채에 비해 공간개념이 앞섰다. 16세기의 법칙성과 명료성 중심의 공간개념은 회화의 공간색채에서 빛의 시각적 묘사를 통한 명도 대비와 연관성이 깊다. 본 연구는 기존에 부족했던 시각적 측면의 연구에 보충자료가 되었다는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있으며, 공간개념이 회화의 색채표현을 통해 전개된다는 근거를 통해 이러한 연구가 지속적으로 이루어져야하는 필요성을 살펴볼 수 있었다.;The objective of this study is to reveal the relationship between space color and space concept as the important relational factors for paintings in the integrated aspect. Furthermore, quantitatively analyzing the space color of paintings, it aimed to be used as data for follow-up researches. Thus, this study established the standard of space color analysis, by understanding the characteristics of overall space concept of Renaissance paintings through literature consideration, and also summarizing the physical characteristics externally shown through the analysis of space expression type. To maintain the methodological objectiveness and discrimination, total 925 Renaissance paintings in the 14th-16th century were collected through the major five art museums in the Western Europe selected by <artnewspaper>. Through the additional collection/selection in five phases, finally, total 210 significant data were selected. The color analysis was done through Natural Color System(NCS) by downloading the uploaded images in the official websites of institutions holding works. The conclusions of this study are like following. The overall space concept shown in Renaissance paintings was the humanistic space concept. In order to show space as it was when expressing the space of paintings, artists expressed a sense of space and three-dimensional voluminous expressions through the use of colors. On the other hand, in case of using colors, the regular characteristics were not shown. Also, the plane space concept by dualistic thinking appeared with the use of chroma/brightness in the uncertain concept for space color of paintings while the solid space concept based on unified thinking appeared with the use of chroma/brightness through complete plans. Reviewing the characteristics of space color in each time based on the space concept of Renaissance paintings, the space concept of the Renaissance in the 14th century mixed with the medieval theological approach and new ontological thinking appeared as plane and homogeneous colors in the space color of paintings. The Renaissance in the 15th century was the realistic & objective space concept emphasizing mathematical regulations for the purpose of reproduction of reality while the space color of paintings did not show distinct characteristics. In other words, the space concept was more advanced than the space color. The space concept in the 16th century focusing on laws and clarity is deeply related to the brightness contrast through the visual description of light in the space color of paintings. The significance of this study is to work as supplementary data for researches in the visual aspect that has been lacking in before. As the space concept is developed through color expression of paintings, it would be necessary to continuously have this type of research.
