백조의 이미지를 응용한 의상조각(Clothing Sculpture) 연구

Abstract

The 21st century is the era when the environmental protection is weighed very high than ever before. The environmental problem is a problem to be settled at all times to us. Nonetheless, we continue to deteriorate nature. Nature must be protected and maintained even for the survival of human being. Such nature has been a source of motif for artists and designers because of its mystic livelihood and various beautiful shapes. Human keeps harmony with nature, represents nature artistically and enriches life. All materials necessary for human survival and cultural life are originated from nature and many natural resources can be seen in formative arts as well as industrial design and fashion design. Designers and artists express insight and emotion from nature in various materials and styles. As the awareness of environmental protection increases, artists introduce eco-friendly recycling materials to boost naturalistic recycling arts. Thus, this study pays attention to paper which is usual and easily wasted material, and the image of swan and formativeness of paper recycling are applied to costume sculpture. The image of swan is very diverse among which motif is selected based on some movements. Among various paper recycling, paper egg board is recycled which is not much used in design to be used as material of artworks. As for design expression method, overlap technique is applied that is available for multi-dimensional texture expression with easy cutting and good adhesion of paper which suggests possibility of feather texture expression. The aim of this study is to adapt paper recycling to costume sculpture with a meaning of environmental problem solution in the production of work by observing the movement of swan and by applying morphological formative beauty. In doing so, the study proposes works with artistic value and expands expression scope of costume sculpture. As for research details and methods, the study carried out a literature survey on the swan as the motif source, examined biological definition and formative characteristics of swan and analyzed the case of applying swan image. And, the study examined definition of paper recycling and formative technique and analyzed paper recycling applied cases. The theoretical study and analysis were conducted to books, articles, preceding studies, fashion periodicals and internet. The image of swan selected based on it was reconstructed. Various recycling paper formative techniques were experimented for material expression and the texture of feather was creatively expressed. Accordingly, total 6 artworks of paper recycling costume sculpture were produced using the image of swan. The conclusion of this study is as follows. Firstly, costume sculpture is a genre apparently settled in the changing trend of contemporary sculpture which is a costume image sculpture excluding functionality but seeking purely aesthetic expression. It is expressed in relief, carving in the round and objet of installation art. It has expanded expression world in each artists through the expansion of material to present. Secondly, it can progress a new expression material in costume sculpture by developing a paper egg board, a new texture in paper material of costume sculpture. Thirdly, the movement in the swan image is analyzed and the external formativeness of the swan could be diversely expressed as costume sculpture. Fourthly, selected paper egg board was densely cut to express texture of feather and it was aligned and attached in a narrow space in order to express overlapped feather surface texture. Fifthly, the movement of swan was observed and various shapes were expressed in the work. The texture of feather was expressed in cutting, pasting and overlapping of paper egg board in order to expand the possibility of costume sculpture. This study attempted to express characteristic expression of the image of swan in combination with costume sculpture. Among paper material used in the costume sculpture, paper was selected within the category of recycling and new texture expression was discovered with an aim to make more meaningful expression method. Thus, this study suggests a necessity and expectation to continue studies in order to solve social problems with a creative artistic method in a society where eco-friendly and recycling awareness is required.;21세기는 그 어느 때보다도 환경보호를 중시하는 시대이다. 환경문제는 우리에게 늘 해결되어야 할 문제로 남아있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 지금도 끊임없이 자연을 훼손하고 있다. 자연은 인간의 생존을 위해서도 보호받고 유지되어야한다. 이러한 자연은 신비한 생명력과 다양한 아름다운 형태로 인해 예술가와 디자이너들에게 작품 모티프의 원천이 되어왔다. 인간은 자연과 조화를 이루면서 예술적으로 자연을 재현하고 삶을 풍요롭게 해왔다. 인간의 생존과 문화적 생활에 필요한 모든 소재는 모두 자연으로부터 나오며 현재까지 자연에서 얻을 수 있는 많은 소재들은 산업디자인, 패션디자인분야 뿐만 아니라 조형예술에서도 볼 수 있다. 디자이너나 예술가들도 역시 자연에서 얻은 영감과 감흥을 다양한 소재와 형태로 표현하고 있다. 또한 환경보호에 대한 의식이 증가되면서 작가들은 친환경적인 재활용소재를 작품에 도입하면서 자연주의적 재활용 예술을 활성화시키고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 일상에서 흔히 쓰이고 쉽게 버려지는 종이라는 존재에 주목하고, 백조의 이미지와 종이 재활용의 조형성을 의상조각에 응용하고자 하였다. 백조의 이미지는 매우 다양한데 그 중에서도 몇 가지의 동세를 중심으로 모티프를 선정하고 다양한 종이 재활용 중에서 디자인에 많이 응용되지 않는 종이 계란판을 재활용하여 작품의 소재로 선정하였다. 디자인의 표현 방법으로는 종이의 쉽게 자를 수 있고 접착이 좋은 특징을 가지고 입체적인 질감표현이 가능한 겹치기 기법을 응용하여 깃털의 질감표현의 가능성을 제시하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 백조의 동세를 관찰하면서 분석한 형태적 조형미를 응용하여 작품을 제작함에 있어서 환경 문제해결의 의의를 둔 종이 재활용을 의상조각에 접목시킴으로써 예술적 가치를 지닌 작품을 제안하고 의상조각의 표현영역을 확대하는 데에 있다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법으로 모티프 소스인 백조에 관한 문헌 고찰을 통해 백조의 생물학적 정의 조형적 특성을 알아보고 백조의 이미지를 응용한 사례를 분석하였다. 그리고 종이 재활용의 정의와 조형기법을 알아보고 종이 재활용을 응용한 사례를 분석하였다. 이상의 이론적 연구와 분석을 서적, 학회지, 선행연구, 패션 정기간행물 및 인터넷을 통해 이루어졌으며 이를 토대로 선정된 백조의 이미지를 재구성하였다. 재질적 표현을 위한 다양한 재활용 종이 조형기법을 실험하고 깃털의 질감을 창의적으로 표현하여 백조이미지를 응용한 종이 재활용 의상조각 총 6점의 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구에 대한 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 의상조각은 현대조각의 변화 흐름 속에 뚜렷하게 정착해온 하나의 장르로서, 기능성을 배제하면서도 순수하게 미적 표현만을 추구하는 의상 이미지의 조각을 말한다. 이는 부조와 환조, 설치예술의 오브제로 존재하며 오늘날까지 재료의 확장을 통해 작가마다의 표현 세계를 넓혀온 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 의상조각의 소재인 종이소재에서 새로운 질감인 종이 계란판을 발굴함으로써 의상조각 영역의 새로운 표현 재료로 전개할 수 있었다. 셋째, 백조의 이미지에 나타난 동세를 분석하여 백조의 외적 조형성을 의상조각으로 다양하게 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 선택된 종이 계란판 소재를 촘촘하게 잘라서 깃털의 결을 표현하고 좁은 간격으로 나열하여 붙임으로써 중첩된 깃털 표면의 질감을 섬세하게 나타낼 수 있었다. 다섯째, 백조의 동세를 고찰하고 다양한 형태를 작품에 나타낼 수 있었고, 깃털의 질감을 종이 계란판 소재로 자르기, 붙이기, 겹치기 기법으로 표현하여 의상조각으로서의 가능성을 넓힐 수 있었다. 본 연구는 백조의 이미지가 갖는 특징적인 표현을 의상조각에 접목하여 다양한 형태의 작품으로 시도하고자 한 것이었고, 의상조각 분야에서 활용되었던 종이 소재 중에서도 재활용의 범주 안에서 종이를 선택한 뒤 새로운 질감 표현을 발견함으로써 한층 의미있는 표현 방식을 전개하고자 노력한 연구이다. 이에 본 연구는 친환경 및 재활용 인식이 요구되는 사회에서 사회문제를 창의적인 예술방식으로 해결할 수 있는 연구가 계속되어야 할 것이라는 필요성과 기대를 제안하는 바이다.
