시선과 부담감을 형상화한 조형적 표현 연구

Abstract

Man forms a connection with others by instinct. One of the things that occur in these connections is ‘view’. Philosophers debate about the actual existence of the concept of ‘view’, but when we recall our own experiences, it is difficult to explain the issues that rise in human relationships without mentioning the view. The desire to be seen as a better person starts from the view. And as this desire grows, one’s ego becomes smaller and the position of others in the person of desire grows larger. This study aims to find out the cause of the pressure from the view and investigate the reason why the researcher is under pressure and stress, and seek a solution through philosophical or psychological analysis. The purpose of this research is to visualize the abstract concept of view of others and pressure and express it as a formative art work. In the theoretical study, the philosophers' opinion on ‘view’ was synthesized, and the literature on the cause of view was centered on the concept of 'gaze' in the visual art theory of Jacques Lacan (Lacan, 1901-1981). Next, the study described the role of eyes as a body organ by using the eyes that are considered to be the starting point of view and gaze as the subject for the work. The study looked at how the eyes are expressed in various arts fields and studied the many elements that the eyes contain to summarize the meaning of the eyes. In addition, psychological analysis on the pressure felt by many, including the researcher, was analyzed. In the way of expressing the subject, the study looked at various ways of formatively expressing the meaning that a word can contain through the works of artists who are talking about the view in contemporary art. It also studied materials and techniques that the researcher can access to effectively express the topic. In the production of the work, the detailed description of the eyes was simplified for the intense realization of the view based on the above processes, and the color was unified in black. Machine stitch technique was used for the perfect transmission of the drawing and detailed expression, and the use of water-soluble alginate foil as the base fabric enhanced the feeling of fiber drawing work of using thread only and added robustness to the work. Based on this, five works were produced attempting to embody the symbolic interpretation of the subject through expressing using hardened fiber, not the usual soft and flexible fiber.;인간은 본능적으로 타인과 관계를 맺으며 살아가는 사회적 존재다. 이 관계 속에서 발생하는 것들 중 하나가 ‘시선’에 관한 것이다. 철학자들은 이 시선이라는 것이 실존하는지 아닌지를 가지고 논쟁하지만, 우리가 이야기하고 실제로 경험하고 있는 바를 떠올릴 때 우리는 시선을 제외하고 인간관계에서 발생하는 문제를 설명하기는 어렵다. 보다 더 나은 모습으로 비춰지고 싶어 하는 욕망은 바로 이 시선으로부터 시작된다. 그리고 이 욕망이 커지면 커질수록 자아는 점점 작아지고 욕망의 주체인 개인 안에서 타자의 자리는 넓어진다. 본 연구는 시선이 주는 부담감의 원인이 무엇인지 파악하여 연구자가 살아가면서 압박감과 스트레스를 받는 이유의 원인을 살펴보고, 철학적 혹은 심리학적 분석을 통해 해결 방법을 모색하고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 타인의 시선과 부담감이라는 추상적인 개념을 시각화 하여 조형예술 작품으로 표현하는 것이다. 본 연구의 내용은 이론연구와 주제 표현 방법 연구 및 본인의 작품 제작에 관한 세 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 이론연구부분에서는 시선에 대한 철학가들의 의견을 종합하여 고찰하고자 하였는바 주로 자크 라캉(Jacques Lacan,1901-1981)의 시각예술이론에 등장하는 ‘응시’ 개념을 중심으로 시선의 발생 원인에 대한 문헌 연구를 진행하였다. 이어서 시선과 응시의 시작점인 눈을 작품의 소재로 삼아 신체기관으로서 눈의 역할에 대해 서술하였다. 아울러 여러 예술 분야에서 눈이 어떠한 모습으로 표현되고 있는지 살펴보았고, 눈이 내포하고 있는 많은 요소들을 연구하여 눈이 갖는 의미에 대해 정리하였다. 또한, 연구자를 포함한 많은 이들이 느끼는 부담감에 대해 심리학적으로 분석하였다. 주제를 표현하는 방법을 다룬 부분에서는 현대 예술에서 시선에 대해 이야기하고 있는 작가들의 작품들을 통해 한 단어가 내포하고 있는 의미를 조형적으로 표현할 수 있는 다양한 방법을 살펴보았다. 또한, 주제를 효과적으로 표현하기 위해 연구자가 접근 할 수 있는 재료들과 기법들 역시 연구하였다. 작품 제작에 관한 부분에서는 위의 과정들을 토대로 시선의 강렬한 실체화를 위해 어떤 방식과 의도로써 눈을 간소화 하고, 검정색으로 색을 통일하였는지, 그리고 드로잉의 온전한 전달과 섬세한 표현을 위해 도입한 머신 스티치(Machine Stitch)기법의 사용방식, 수용성 알지네이트 호일(Alginate Foil)을 바탕천으로 사용함으로써 실로만 이루어진 섬유 드로잉작업의 느낌을 살리고 작품의 견고함을 더했다. 이를 토대로 5점의 작품을 제작하였으며, 섬유의 특성인 부드러움과 유연성이 보다는 좀 더 단단하게 단련된 섬유 표현을 통해 주제에 대한 상징적인 해석을 내포하고자하였다.
