유아의 기질과 어머니의 양육스트레스 및 양육행동이 유아의 외현화 문제행동에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 유아의 기질과 어머니의 양육스트레스 및 양육행동이 유아의 외현화 문제행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 양육스트레스와 양육행동이 유아의 기질과 외현화 문제행동 간의 관계에서 매개적 역할을 하는지 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 한국연구재단의 사회과학연구지원(Social Science Korea[SSK]) 사업에 의해 지원된 ‘아동가족연구단’ 연구에 참가한 155명의 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니들을 대상으로 연구를 실시하였다. 유아의 기질 척도는 Winldle과 Lerner(1986)의 개정판 기질차원 검사를 서주현과 이순형(2010)이 한국 아동을 위하여 번안 및 수정한 것이다. 어머니의 양육스트레스 척도는 Abidin(1990)의 양육스트레스 척도 축약형(Parenting Stress Index-Short Form[PSI-SF])을 김민정(2008)이 수정한 것이며, 양육행동 척도는 Schaefer(1965)의 양육행동의 세 가지 요인 모델(Three-Factor Model of Parental Behavior)을 박영애(1995)가 수정 및 번안하고 김문정(2003)이 재수정한 것이다. 그리고 유아의 외현화 문제행동은 한국아동인성평정척도(Korean Personality Rating Scale for Children[KPRC])(조선미, 박혜연, 김지혜, 홍창희, 황순택, 2006)를 사용하여 측정되었다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 22.0 프로그램을 사용하여 연구변인들에 대한 전반적인 기술통계 및 정규분포성분석과 상관관계분석을 실시하였고, SPSS MACRO PROCESS v2.16 프로그램을 사용하여 경로분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아의 기질 특성 가운데 적응성을 제외하고 활동성과 규칙성은 유아의 외현화 문제행동에 각각 정적 영향과 부적 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 유아의 기질이 어머니의 양육스트레스를 통해 외현화 문제행동에 영향을 미치는 간접 경로는 유의하였다. 적응성 및 규칙성과 활동성은 양육스트레스에 각각 부적 영향과 정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 양육스트레스는 외현화 문제행동에 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 유아의 기질이 어머니의 양육행동을 통해 외현화 문제행동에 영향을 미치는 간접 경로는 활동성의 경우에만 유의하였다. 활동성은 어머니의 부정적 양육행동에 정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 어머니의 부정적 양육행동은 외현화 문제행동에 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 마지막으로, 유아의 기질이 어머니의 양육스트레스 및 양육행동을 통해 외현화 문제행동에 영향을 미치는 경로와 관련하여, 적응성 및 규칙성과 활동성은 양육스트레스에 각각 부적 영향과 정적 영향을 미쳤고, 양육스트레스는 부정적 양육행동에 정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 부정적 양육행동은 외현화 문제행동에 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 변인들 간의 간접 경로는 유의하였으며, 양육스트레스와 양육행동의 매개효과가 발견되었다. 종합해보면, 본 연구는 유아의 기질이 외현화 문제행동에 직접적으로 뿐만 아니라 어머니의 양육스트레스와 양육행동을 통해 간접적으로도 영향을 미치는 것을 발견하였다. 선행 연구들이 연구변인들 간의 상관관계 혹은 종속변인에 대한 선행 변인들의 상대적 영향력에 초점을 둔 반면, 본 연구는 연구 변인들 간의 상관관계는 물론 구조적 관계까지 살펴보았다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 본 연구의 결과는 유아의 외현화 문제행동을 예방하고 해결하기 위하여 어머니의 양육스트레스를 낮추고 기질에 적합한 양육행동을 이끌어내는 부모교육 프로그램의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있으며, 이를 통해 유아의 긍정적 발달 및 심리사회적 적응에 도움이 되리라 기대한다.;The main purpose of the study is to examine the effects of temperament, maternal parenting stress, and maternal parenting behavior on externalizing behavioral problems of preschoolers. In doing so, it will identify the mediating role of parenting stress, and parenting behavior in the relationship between temperament and externalizing behavioral problems. The sample was drawn from the 2010 Child and Family Study, a project supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea. Data for the study included a total of 155 mothers of 3- to 4-year-old preschoolers (83 boys and 72 girls) in Seoul. Mothers completed questionnaires on their child’s temperament and externalizing behavior problems, and their own parenting stress and parenting behavior. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and path analyses through SPSS 22.0 and SPSS MACRO PROCESS v2.16. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, amongst the three subscales of temperament, adaptibility, activity level, and regularity, activity level and regularity of children had direct effects on their externalizing behavioral problems. Second, temperament indirectly influenced externalizing behavior problems through maternal parenting stress. Third, activity level had an indirect effect on externalizing behavioral problems through maternal parenting behavior. Finally, the indirect pathways including maternal parenting stress and parenting behavior as mediators were significant. In conclusion, the present study establishes that temperament directly affects externalizing behavior, and also indirectly affects their behavior through maternal parenting stress and parenting behavior. The results of this study offer the foundation in developing parenting education programs to prevent children’s behavioral problems and to support their positive developmental outcomes.
