칸딘스키 추상미술의 디자인적 특성을 응용한 Needle Felt 작품연구

Abstract

고도로 산업화된 현대사회를 살아가는 사람들의 삶은 물질적으로는 풍요로워졌지만 정신적·육체적으로는 지치고 무기력해져있다. 인간 스스로 만든 발달된 과학과 문화가 오히려 우리 삶을 황폐하게 만들고 있는 것이다. 이러한 생활이 반복되면서 현대인들은 개인적 행복을 추구하기 위한 수단으로 인공적인 환경과 물질만능주의에서 탈피하고 자연친화적인 환경과 제품들을 추구하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 본 연구자는 인간이 일상에서 벗어나 안정과 휴식을 취할 수 있는 시간을 하루 일과가 끝난 후 자신만의 공간에 있을 때라고 생각했다. 칙칙한 도시환경에서 벗어나, 활력을 불어넣어 줄 수 있는 다양한 색채들로 작품을 제작하기 위해 연구하였고, 자연적이고 친환경적인 것에서 위안을 받고자 천연소재에 대해서도 함께 연구하게 되었다. 연구의 이론적 배경은 칸딘스키의 추상미술에서 찾았다. 칸딘스키는 대상의 구체적인 재현에서 이탈하여 자신의 감정과 느낌을 기하학적인 방식으로 표현하고, 선명한 색채를 통해 음악적이고 역동적인 패턴을 만들어낸 위대한 작가이다. 이러한 점에서 칸딘스키의 점·선·면의 조형요소와 색채를 이용해 다양한 디자인을 구성하였고 자연적이고 친환경적인 것을 추구하는 현대의 트렌드에 맞게 천연소재인 펠트를 사용하여 현대인들의 각박한 환경에서 벗어나 쉴 수 있는 공간적 요소에 적합한 리빙디자인 작품을 제작해보았다. 우선, 본 작업의 중심이 되는 칸딘스키의 추상미술에 대한 이해를 위해서, 추상미술에 대한 이론적 고찰을 하였고, 칸딘스키의 작품들 중 연구자의 의도에 적합한 몇 가지 요소를 선정하여 작품 제작의 모티브로 사용하였다. 칸딘스키의 작품에 담겨있는 순수한 조형요소와 색채를 응용하였고, 연구자의 감성과 개성을 담아 재구성한 생동감 넘치는 디자인, 리듬감 있는 패턴과 에너지가 느껴지는 색채들을 사용하여 작품을 제작하였다. 다음으로, 작품의 소재로 사용된 펠트의 특성에 대한 이론적 배경과, 제작기법을 연구하였다. 작품을 제작하는데 사용된 재료는 패턴의 리듬에 따라 다양하게 사용하였는데 부드러운 리듬감은 울 플리스를 사용하여 시각적으로 부드럽게 흘러가는 음악적 감성을 표현하였고, 역동적인 리듬은 니들펠트와 모사를 사용하여 빠르고 경쾌한 느낌이 나도록 선적 요소를 표현하였다. 모든 작업과정은 펠트룸(felt loom)을 통해 제작되었다. 이러한 방법은 작업과정에서 표면에 의도하지 않은 바늘자국이 생기게 되는데, 이는 기계 미학적 측면이 담긴 작품을 제작하고, 우연적 패턴이 더해져 작품에 새로운 디자인적 요소를 제공하였다. 펠트룸의 사용은 기존의 펠트 작업보다 제작시간을 매우 단축시켜주었고, 내구력 있는 작품 제작이 가능하였다. 이러한 점들은 앞으로 펠트를 사용하는 섬유공예 작업에 큰 전환점을 제시하면서 무한한 가능성을 줄 수 있으리라고 본다. 이러한 연구를 통해 연구자는 칸딘스키가 펼치고 있는 색채론과 디자인 요소가 인간의 내면에 심리적 영향을 끼친다는 것과 펠트라는 기법과 재료가 지닌 표현기법의 무한한 가능성을 확인하게 되었다. 본 연구의 진행과정은 총 42점의 작품 제작을 통해 칸딘스키 회화의 중요 요소들을 분석한 후 연구자의 시각에서 새로운 디자인적 요소들을 재구성하여, 현대인들에게 활력을 불어넣어 줄 수 있는 작품을 제작하였다. 작품은 펠트 소재를 이용하여 이를 실생활에서 사용할 수 있는 울 커버(Wool Cover)에 접목시켜 제작하였다. 작품의 결과물은 실생활에 유용한 기능성과 예술성이 가미된 리빙디자인 제품의 산출과 현대인들의 일상생활에 아름다움과 삶의 풍요로움을 제시하기를 기대하였다.;Today, people living in modern society which is highly industrialized are getting tired mentally and physically despite the material well-being. Developed science and culture made by human themselves are making our lives devastated. Modern people have come to pursue environmentally friendly products breaking away from artificial products to pursue happier lives. The researcher has tried to study art works composed of various colors, and environmentally friendly natural materials that enable the people to get vigor out of their daily life. The theoretical background of this study is Kandinsky’s abstract art. Kandinsky is one of the greatest artist who expresses his emotions and feelings in a geometric way and creates a musical and dynamic pattern with bright colors, apart from the visual description of an object. In this regard, various designs have been created using the geometric elements of point, line, and plane, and harmony of colors seen in the Kandinsky’s abstract art, and applied it to the felt, a natural material, in accordance with the modern trends in the art that pursues natural. In order to understand Kandinsky's abstract art, the researcher conducted a theoretical consideration of the abstract art, and selected a few of Kandinsky’s works suitable for the researcher’s intention and used it as a design motif. The researcher has applied the pure formative elements and colors contained in the Kandinsky's works, and created the artworks using vibrant designs, rhythmic patterns and energetic colors that reflect the emotions and personality of the researcher. Next, the researcher studied the theoretical background of the characteristics of the felt and the production technique of the artwork. Varied materials are used for the artwork according to the rhythm of the pattern. The soft rhythm expresses the music flowing smoothly with the fine wool, and the dynamic rhythm expresses the fast and light feeling with the needle felt and cotton yarn. The work is made through a felt loom. In the process of using it, unintentional needle marks appeared on the surface, which made the work unique. In addition to this, the use of the felt room dramatically reduced the time needed for production compared to the conventional felt work, and enabled to produce a durable product. These advantages of using the felt loom can offer a major turning point for textile industry in the future. Through this study, the researcher came to realize that Kandinsky's color theory and design elements have a great influence on human psychology, and the felt work has infinite possibilities of the expression techniques. The contents of this study are as follows: Forty-two artworks using felt work fashioned with the new design elements, and apply them to produce wool covers; which, can be used in the real world. Also, it is expected that these products will make the weary modern person feel relaxed and use for interior decorating.
