고등학생의 이공계 진로동기에 따른 계열 선택에 미치는 요인 분석

Abstract

사람들은 진로를 통해 자신의 자아실현을 이루고 행복한 삶을 영위한다. 특히 고등학교에서의 진로선택은 앞으로의 대학전공과 직업에도 영향을 주므로 매우 중요하다. 그러나 대부분의 고등학생들은 자신의 진로를 탐색하기 보다는 대학진학 자체를 목표로 삼고 있는 실정이다. 실제로 대부분의 고등학생들이 자신의 진로를 결정하지 못한 채로 대학에 입학하여 방황하며, 많은 경우 진로를 바꾸는 바꾸기도 한다. 이러한 이유로 진로동기는 진로발달에 중요한 요소로 여겨지는데, 진로동기란 학생들이 스스로 진로를 선택하고 성취하도록 하는 원동력을 말한다. 따라서 학생들의 진로동기를 파악하여 어떠한 요인이 진로선택에 영향을 주는 지 파악할 필요가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 서울에 위치한 인문계 고등학교 1학년 학생들을 대상으로 이공계 진로동기를 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 계열 선택에 따라 어떠한 요인이 진로선택 과정에 영향을 미쳤는지 알아보았다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이공계 진로동기 검사결과, 이공계열을 희망하는 학생들은 이공계열을 희망하지 않은 학생들보다 진로동기가 높았다. 둘째, 이공계 진로동기 점수가 높은 학생들이 이공계열을 선택하는데 영향을 준 요인에는 과학에 대한 흥미, 가정적 배경 요인, 사회문화적 요인이 있었다. 셋째, 이공계 진로동기 점수가 높지만 인문계열을 선택한 학생들은 교사요인, 성취감, 과학 실험 활동으로 과학을 선호하였지만 가정적 요인, 자아효능감 부족, 사회문화적 요인의 영향으로 이공계열을 선택하지 않았다. 넷째, 이공계 진로동기 점수가 낮은 학생들이 이공계열을 선택하는데 영향을 준 요인에는 사회문화적 요인, 가정적 요인이 있었다. 다섯째, 이공계 진로동기 점수가 높은데 이공계열을 선택한 학생들과 인문계열을 선택한 학생들은 교사요인, 과학 실험 활동, 사회문화적 요인과 진로성숙도에서 차이를 보였다. ;People can actualize themselves and lead a happy life through their career. Especially, career selection in high school is very important as it influences not only students’ university major but future job, too. Most high school students, however, have entering a university itself as a goal instead of exploring their own career. In fact, many high school students are wandering after entering a university not knowing how to make a choice about their career. In many cases, they end up changing their career in the middle. Because of that, career motivation is regarded as one of the most crucial factors in career development. Career motivation refers to the drive that allows students to choose their own career and attain their goal. Therefore, it is needed to figure out students’ career motivation and understand what factors influence their career selection. Here, this study analyzed natural sciences and engineering career motivation with first graders attending a humanities high school located in Seoul, and based on that, this author examined what factors influenced career selection according to students’ course selection. This researcher has drawn following conclusions: First, according to the results of conducting STEM Career Motivation test, students hoping to go with natural sciences and engineering indicate higher a humanities high school in every area than those not. Second, factors influencing students gaining a higher score in STEM Career Motivation in choosing the course are the interest in science factor, family factor, and socio-cultural factor. Third, students gaining a higher score in STEM Career Motivation but not choosing the humanities course preferred science with the teacher factor, a sense of achievement, and scientific experimental activities but did not choose the natural sciences and engineering course because of the family factor, lack of self-efficacy, and the socio-cultural factor. Fourth, factors influencing students gaining a low score in STEM Career Motivation in choosing the natural sciences and engineering course are the socio-cultural factor and family factor. Fifth, students gaining a higher score in STEM Career Motivation and choosing the natural sciences and engineering course and those not choosing the humanities course show difference in the teacher factor, scientific experimental activities, socio-cultural factor, and career maturity.
