컨텍스트를 적용한 글 없는 그림책의 표현연구

Abstract

그림책의 독자가 어린이 안에서 한정되어 있는 것은 이제 과거의 일이 되었다. 오늘날 그림책의 독자는 유아부터 성인까지 매우 광범위해졌으며, 이러한 독자의 다양화는 그림책의 다양화로 이어졌다. 독자의 다양화뿐만 아니라 그림책 동향 또한 달라지고 있다. 그림책의 상업화, 전 세계적인 그림책의 교류, 예술작업을 시도하는 그림책의 증가는 현재 그림책의 가치를 다시 재조명 받게 만들었다. 그림책은 글과 그림이 함께 어우러져 이야기를 전달하는 책을 의미한다. 특히 그림은 그림책의 어원에서도 볼 수 있듯이 그림책이 가지고 있는 고유의 아이덴티티라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 다양한 그림책들 중 그림책의 가장 중요한 요소인 그림을 강조한 ‘글 없는 그림책’에 대해 연구하고자 한다. 글 없는 그림책은 그림의 비중이 매우 큰 그림책이다. 그림으로 이야기의 모든 것을 표현해야하기 때문에 그림책 안에서도 독특한 장르라고 할 수 있다. 이로 인해 보통의 그림책에서 볼 수 없는 글 없는 그림책만의 독특한 시각적, 내용적 특징을 사례와 함께 정리해 보고자 한다. 글 없는 그림책을 효율적으로 읽어낼 수 있는 방법으로는 언어학에서 제시하고 있는 컨텍스트 이론을 사용하였다. 언어학에서 논의 되고 있는 형태와 배경의 관계를 글 없는 그림책의 내용적 특징인 주인공과 환경에 연관시킬 수 있었다. 컨텍스트의 효과를 보여 주는 글 없는 그림책의 사례를 분석하고, 효율적으로 글 없는 그림책을 읽어낼 수 있는 긍정적인 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 글 없는 그림책의 개념과 특징을 재조명하고, 컨텍스트의 적용 가능성과 사례 분석을 통해 글 없는 그림책의 표현방법을 연구하였다. 이를 통해 날지 못하는 새인 키위, 타조, 펭귄을 주인공으로 여행이라는 환경을 주제로 하여 글 없는 그림책의 디자인 제안을 할 수 있었다. 디자인 제안을 바탕으로 작품을 수정하고 발전시켜 『키위의 여행』이라는 글 없는 그림책을 리소 인쇄를 통해 직접 제작하였다. 글 없는 그림책의 새로운 표현방법 제시와 제작을 통해 다양하고 창의적인 글 없는 그림책의 표현에 도움이 되고자한다. ;It is now a thing of the past that picture book readers are limited in children. Today's picture books have a wide range of readers from infants to adults, with their diversity of readers leading to their diversification. Not only the diversity of readers, but also the trend of picture books have changed. Commercialization of picture books, exchange of picture books worldwide, and increase of picture books trying to do art work have now reinvigorated the value of the current picture book. Picture books mean books in which sentences and pictures together make a story. Especially picture is the unique identity of picture books as seen in the etymology of picture book. Therefore, this study explores the 'wordless picture book' which emphasizes picture that is the most important element of picture books. Wordless picture books are picture books that pictures are their big part. It is a unique genre in picture books because it has to express everything in the story with pictures. Thus wordless picture books have the unique visual and content characteristics which can not be seen in ordinary picture books, that are summarized with examples. As an effective way to read out wordless picture books, the theory of context presented in linguistics is used. The relationship between the forms and backgrounds, discussed in linguistics, could be related to the main character and the environment, which are the content features of wordless picture books. We analyze cases of wordless picture books showing the effect of context, and try to provide a positive direction to read wordless picture books efficiently. This study reviews the concepts and characteristics of wordless picture book, and studies the expression methods of wordless picture books through context applicability and case analysis. Through this, we could make the design proposal of wordless picture books on the subject of travel with the main characters of kiwi, ostrich, and penguin, which can not fly. Based on the design proposal, the work was revised and developed, and a wordless picture book 『Kiwi's Journey』 was produced by RISO Printing. Through presentation of a new expression method and production of a wordless picture book, we would like to help the diverse and creative expression of wordless picture books.
