현진건 단편소설에 나타난 인물의 아이러니 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 1920년대의 한국사회는 서양문명의 유입으로 전대의 봉건 통치에서 벗어나 탈피하기 시작하였고 민중들도 기존의 사회질서에 대한 불만이 높아지면서 새로운 관리제도에 대한 호소가 날로 높아졌다. 그러나 식민지 통치하에 유효한 제도 규범의 출현을 지연되고 반대로 계급 간의 모순을 두드러지게 만들었다. 이어서 1920년대가 당시 한국사회의 계선으로 되면서 전대의 봉건제도와 구분되는 동시에 시대의 발전과 식민지통치의 간섭의 이중길항과 더불어 혼잡한 상황을 초래하였다. 현진건은 근대문학 초창기 작가 중의 한 명으로서 폐쇄적인 전대 봉건제도에서 태어났지만, 근대교육을 받고 성장하였으므로 이중적인 문화 환경에 처해있었다. 이러한 시대 배경으로 태어난 현진건은 변동기 시기의 분위기 영향을 받으면서 각 계층모순에 관심을 가지게 되고 이것을 소재로 창작하기 시작하였다. 현진건의 작품을 살펴보면 지식인과 하층민의 생활을 묘사하는 부분이 많다. 현진건은 지식인의 눈으로 바라보는 세상과 하층민의 눈으로 바라보는 세상 두 가지로 나누면서 근대적인 시선에 입각하여 당시 시대를 바라보는 것과 일반인의 시선에 입각하여 보는 것에 해당한다. 이것은 당시 사회의 발전과 낙후의 이중적 길항을 이루는 상황에서 창작하는 것이므로 그의 소설에 리얼리티한 느낌이 부여되고 아이러니컬한 효과를 이룬다. 본고에서는 현진건 소설에서 나타나는 인물을 통하여 그의 인물에서 나타나는 아이러니를 분석하고 지식인과 하층민이 아이러니를 생성하는 원인과 의의를 살펴본다. 각 장의 A 항에서는 지식인과 하층민이 현실에 대응할 때 취하는 태도와 행위를 살펴볼 것이며 부동한 계층이 각자의 환경에서 나타나는 문제를 해결하는 방법을 살펴보면서 그의 긍정적 의미를 찾아낸다. B 항에서는 인물들이 처해있는 공간 또는 이동하는 공간을 중심으로 각자의 내면을 통하여 그들의 공간적 이동 요구를 분석하였다. C 항에서는 우려형 지식인과 하층민이 각자가 주로 나타나는 아이러니를 통하여 소설에서 나타난 의미를 살펴보았다. Ⅱ장에서는 당시 지식인상을 토대로 우려형(憂慮型) 지식인을 파생하여 일반 지식인보다 사회와 국가 발전에 더 많이 고민하는 지식인이며 이러한 지식인의 시선을 통하여 당시 사회를 바라보고 동시에 자신의 실존적 위치를 찾아가면서 운명을 개변하려는 자세를 살펴보았다. 현진건 초기 작품에서 등장하는 지식인들은 당시 시대발전의 앞자리를 차지한 사람들이지만 사회제도와 권력 앞에서 부득불 타협할 수밖에 없는 상황이다. 그러나 인물의 삶에서 새로운 시대에 대해 기대를 담고 있으며 고유한 관념에서 벗어나 폐쇄적인 내면으로부터 시작하여 개방적인 세계를 받아들이려는 노력을 보여준다. 지식인이라는 단어는 보다 고급적인 의미로 사용되면서 다른 계층과 구분되지만 다만 긍정적인 모습을 보여주는 것이 아니며 작가는 긍정적인 지식인과 부정적인 지식인의 양면성을 보여주면서 긍정적인 면을 습득하고 부정적인 면을 경계로 삼아 그것을 타파하고 수정해야 하는 성찰적 의미를 보여준다. 따라서 현진건 소설의 지식인상을 살펴보면서 지식인이 현실 문제를 극복하는 과정에서 발생하는 아이러니는 포착한다. Ⅲ장에서는 하층민을 위주로 사회 최하층에서 생활하는 모습을 살펴본다. 이장에서는 사회구성원인 동시에 배제되는 계층이며 혼잡상태에 빠져있는 하층민의 모습을 살펴본다. 하층민은 사회의 발전보다 생활수준의 향상에 더 많은 기대를 갖고 있으며 그것은 생활 수준의 편안을 추구하는 면에서 체현되고 있다. 그러나 계급격차로 인해 항상 착취를 받는 모습으로 나타나면서 피해를 받는다. 즉 한 시대의 최상적인 발전은 상층계급에서 살펴볼 수 있지만, 하층민에서 최악의 모습을 보여준다. 소외되는 하층민의 생활을 통하여 이들이 자신의 생활에서 탈출하고 심지어 계급을 탈출하려는 생각을 가지게 된다. 작가는 하층민의 심리를 잡아서 그들의 시선으로 출발하여 사회의 부조리에 대한 불만을 토로하고 그들의 공간이동 과정에서 생성되는 아이러니를 보여준다. 하층민은 시대에 배제되는 계층이 아니라 시대의 발전을 추동되는 원동력이기도 한다. 따라서 하층민의 생활의 무게를 느끼면서 그들의 비극적인 생활을 담긴 비판적인 의미를 살펴보게 된다. 현진건은 아이러니를 통해 사건과 거리를 두면서 객관적인 시선으로 이야기를 서술하는 작가이다. 그가 등단하면서 초기 작품 「희생화(犧牲花)」가 혹평을 받았으나 이후 「빈처」, 「술 권하는 사회」, 「운수 좋은 날」 등 작품을 통하여 부단히 서사 기교를 강화하면서 객관적인 태도로 독자에게 이야기를 전달해준다. 그는 작품을 통하여 독자에게 더욱 진실한 세계를 보여주며 식민지 시대에서 한국의 진실한 현황을 소설로 보여준다. 독자는 현진건의 작품에서 인물의 운명에 감개하는 동시에 소설에서 드러나는 비판적 의미와 교육적 의미를 찾아낼 수 있다. 현진건은 장편소설도 있지만, 그의 문학창작 생애에서 장편보다 단편의 영향이 더 크고 작품 수를 살펴보았을 때 단편소설이 훨씬 상당한 수량을 차지하고 있기 에 본고에서는 현진건의 단편을 위주로 분석을 진행하였다. 1920년대라는 변동기 시대를 배경으로 현진건의 창작세계를 분석하면서 이전의 작가와 다른 자신만의 개성을 살펴볼 수 있다. 본고는 현진건의 단편작품과 기존의 논의의 방향을 토대로 지식인과 하층민 두 계층으로 나누어 인물의 아이러니를 재조명하고자 한다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 작품을 다른 시선으로 해석하는 동시에 현진건에 더 가까이할 수 있고 현대문학을 더 깊이 탐구하는데 그 의의가 더한다고 판단한다.;In the 1920s, the Chosun society began to escape from the feudal rule of the former era by the influx of Western civilization, and the people became increasingly complaining about the existing social order, and the appeal for the new management system became higher day by day. However, the emergence of effective institutional norms under the rule of the Japanese colonies has been delayed and contradicted by the contradictions of the class strata. Subsequently, the 1920s became a part of Chosun society at the time, distinguishing it from the feudal system of the whole generation, and congested with the duality of the development of the times and the intervention of the colonial rule. Hyun Jin-geon was one of the earliest writers of modern literature and was born in a closed-front feudal system but grew up in modern education and is in a double cultural environment. Hyun Jin-geon, who was born as the background of this age, was influenced by the atmosphere of the period of change, and became interested in the contradictions of each class. If you look at the works of Hyun Jin-kun, there are many parts that describe the life of intellectuals and lower classes. Hyun Jin-geon divides into two worlds, one based on the intellectual's eyes and the other based on the eyes of the underbelly, and is viewed based on the modern perspective and on the basis of the viewpoints of the time and the eyes of the general public. In this paper, I analyze the irony that appears in his characters through the characters appearing in the novels of Hyun Jin geon- in and examines the causes and significance of the intellectuals and the subordinates to generate irony. In Section A, we will look at the attitudes and behaviors that intellectuals and lower classes respond to reality, and find out the positive meaning of the different classes as they look at ways to solve problems in their environment. In Section B, we analyze their spatial movement needs through the inner surface of each person, centered on the space in which the characters are located or the moving space. In Section C, we looked at the meaning that appeared in the novel through irony, in which concern-minded intellectuals and subordinate people mainly appear. In chapter Ⅱ, it is an intellectual who derives a concern-type intellectual based on the knowledge increase at the time and worries more in society and national development than ordinary intellectuals. Through these intellectuals' eyes, I looked at the posture to change. The intellectuals who appeared in the early works of Hyun Jin geon were the ones who took the lead of the development in the times, but they have no choice but to compromise in the face of social institutions and power. However, it shows the expectation of a new age in the life of a person, and shows an effort to accept an open world starting from a closed inner, away from a unique idea. The word "intellectual" is used in a more advanced sense and distinguishes it from other strata, but it does not show a positive image. The writer shows both sides of positive intellectuals and negative intellectuals and acquires a positive side, It tells you the introspective meaning that needs to be corrected and corrected. Therefore, while examining the knowledge increase of Hyun Jin geon young novel, it sees irony which arises in the process of overcoming the problem of intellectuals. In Chapter Ⅲ, we will look at how we live in the lowest society with the lower classes. In this chapter, we examine the appearance of the lower classes who are both social and excluded, and are in a congested state. The lower classes have more expectations for the improvement of the living standards than the development of the society, and they are embodied in the comfort of living standards. However, because of the class gap, they are always exploited and suffer damage. The writer starts with the psychology of the lower classes and starts with their gaze, expresses the complaints about the absurdity of the society and shows the irony which is generated in the process of movement of the space. Therefore, we will look at the critical meaning of their tragic life by feeling the weight of the lives of the lower classes. This gives the novel a sense of reality and an ironic effect in the context of the double development of social development and backwardness at that time. Hyun Jin-geon is a writer who narrates the story from an objective point of view while keeping the distance from the event through irony. His first work "Sacrificial Flower" was criticized by his descent, but he was constantly faithful to himself through his works such as "Poverty", "Societal Society" and "Good Fortune" Tell the story to the reader. Through his work, he presents a more sincere world to his readers and shows the true status of Joseon in the colonial period as a novel. The reader is able to find the critical meaning and the educational meaning revealed in the novel while drawing on the fate of the character in Hyun Jin - geon 's work. Although Hyun Jin-geon has a long story, the influence of the short story is larger than that of the long story in his literary creative life. When the number of his works is examined, the short story occupies a much larger quantity. By analyzing the creative world of Hyun Jin-geon in the backdrop of the period of the 1920's period of change, you can explore your own personality from other writers. Based on the short work of Hyun Jin geon and the direction of the existing debate, this article divides into two groups of intellectuals and lower classes and re - examines the irony of the characters. Through these studies, I interpreted my work as a different line of sight and at the same time I think it can be closer to Hyun Jin - geon and its significance is added.
