프로젝트 학습을 적용한 오카리나 합주 활동이 초등학생의 협동성 및 집단적 자존감 발달에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 프로젝트 학습이 3~6학년 초등학생의 협동성 및 집단적 자존감 발달에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 그 효과를 알아보는데 있으며, 프로젝트 학습을 위하여 오카리나 합주 활동을 연구의 매개체로 정하였다. 이와 같은 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해서 프로젝트 학습, 사회성의 하위영역인 협동성과 집단적 자존감, 오카리나 기악 수업에 대한 내용을 고찰하였으며, 대상의 음악 활동에 관한 기초자료를 토대로, 프로젝트 학습을 위한 기악 수업 설계 과정을 거쳐 오카리나 기악 활동을 계획하였다. 이를 바탕으로 프로젝트 학습을 적용한 오카리나 기악 교수-학습 과정안을 개발하였으며, 총 10차시의 수업을 통하여 <봄맞이 오카리나 발표회> 프로젝트를 진행하였다. 본 연구의 프로그램과 설문지는 전문가 3인 이상의 내용 타당도 검증을 받아 적용되었다. 본 연구의 선행 연구로서 크게 프로젝트 학습 관련 연구, 협동학습을 적용한 기악활동 관련 연구, 오카리나 관련 연구로 나누어 고찰하였다. 오카리나 관련 연구에서는 학교 기악 교육에서 새로운 악기 도입이 필요하고 이에 적합한 악기로 오카리나가 교육적인 효과가 있다는 내용이었고, 협동학습을 적용한 기악활동 관련 연구에서는 대부분이 협동학습 모형을 직접적으로 적용하여 지도한 사례보다는 이론으로 그치거나 수업을 위한 학습지도 방안의 연구가 주를 이루는 내용이었다. 또한 프로젝트 학습 관련 연구는 모두가 질적 연구로서 결론을 도출하여 결과를 일반화하기가 어려웠으므로 양적 연구 방법이 주가 된 연구로서 결과를 확인할 필요가 있었다. 그러므로 본 연구는 선행 연구들의 한계와 제언을 통하여‘프로젝트 학습을 적용한 오카리나 합주 활동이 초등학생의 협동성 및 집단적 자존감 발달에 미치는 영향’이라는 주제를 삼게 되었다. 본 연구는 인천시 소재의 B지역아동센터의 3~6학년 40명을 대상으로 사전검사를 실시한 후, 4차시의 오카리나 보충수업과 프로젝트 학습을 적용한 6차시의 오카리나 기악 수업을 적용하여 사후검사를 실시하였다. 또한 프로그램의 효과를 검증하기 위하여 초등학생의 협동성과 집단적 자존감 변화를 크게 점수의 변화, 설문 문항간의 변화, 종속변인의 하위요소들의 변화로 나누어 두 종속(대응)표본 t검정을 통하여 각각 양적으로 분석하였으며 이들을 종합한 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 프로젝트 학습을 적용한 오카리나 합주 활동이 초등학생의 협동성에 유의미한 효과가 있다. 둘째, 프로젝트 학습을 적용한 오카리나 합주 활동이 초등학생의 집단적 자존감에 유의미한 효과가 있다. 프로젝트 학습에서 학생들은 매 차시마다 수업일지를 작성하였는데 그것을 통하여 학생들의 수업에 대한 태도와 모둠활동에 대한 생각을 알 수 있었다. 전체 학생 중에서 협동성과 집단적 자존감의 사전 점수가 전반적으로 모두 낮게 나온 학생을 관찰함으로써, 그가 기록한 수업일지와 비교하며 행동의 변화를 살펴보았다. 그의 행동변화는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 프로젝트 학습에서 모둠원들과 끊임없는 의사소통을 통하여 소극적 성격의 학생이 모둠활동에서 적극적으로 참여하게 되었다. 둘째, 장시간의 모둠활동으로 동료와의 관계가 돈독해지고 서로를 존중해 줌으로써 그 속에서 자신감(집단적 자존감)을 가지게 되었고 모둠활동에 대한 거부감이 해소되었다. 셋째, 함께 발표회를 준비하는 과정에서 활동에 대한 흥미를 느끼고, 동료에게 도움이 되도록 노력하는 자세를 가지게 되었다. 학생의 이러한 행동변화를 통하여 프로젝트 학습 전의 모습과 비교해 볼 때 매우 큰 변화를 느낄 수 있었다. 실제로 그의 협동성 및 집단적 자존감의 사후점수가 사전점수에 비하여 큰 차이로 향상되었다. 그러므로 프로젝트 학습을 적용한 오카리나 합주 활동이 초등학생의 협동성 및 집단적 자존감 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 준다고 볼 수 있다. 이와 같이 오카리나 합주 활동을 통한 프로젝트 학습은 학생들로 하여금 동료와의 상호관계를 향상시키고 발표회를 준비하는 과정에서 함께하는 시간을 통하여 협동성과 집단적 자존감 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 주고 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 고정된 틀 안에서 수동적으로 행해지는 기존의 전통적 학습에서 벗어나 프로젝트 학습을 음악교육에 적용하여 학생들에게 예술적으로 보다 참신하고 다양한 교육적인 가치를 심어주고자 하는 의의가 있으며, 교육적인 가치로서 협동성과 집단적 자존감 신장에 효과적이라는 결과로 연구 목적을 달성하였다. 이에 본 연구의 추진과정과 도출된 결론을 바탕으로 다음과 같이 제언하고자 한다. 첫째, 본 연구에서는 학교가 아닌 지역아동센터라는 외부 기관을 통해 음악 수업을 진행하여 수업시간 및 제재곡 등에 제약을 받지 않았기 때문에 학교라는 공간의 환경적 조건을 맞추어 수업을 조절한다면 학교에서도 오카리나의 다양한 프로젝트 학습이 가능할 것이다. 둘째, 본 연구는 수업 횟수를 10차시로 한정하여 발표회 프로젝트를 준비하였기 때문에 학습과정 중에 필요하다고 생각되는 내용을 제한된 시간 안에 보충하기가 쉽지 않았다. 학습을 유기적으로 연결시키기 위하여 프로젝트를 장기간의 학습으로 열어두어 학습상황이나 학습자의 요구에 따라 융통성 있게 대처하고, 다양한 음악적 활동을 경험하는 학습으로 만들어 나가야 할 것이다. 셋째, 본 연구는 초등학생을 대상으로 프로젝트 학습을 진행하였는데, 초등학생뿐만 아니라 중·고등학생에게도 난이도 조절을 통한 심도있는 프로젝트 학습을 적용하여 협동성과 집단적 자존감 발달에 영향을 주는지를 확인해볼 필요가 있다. 넷째, 본 연구는 기악영역으로 오카리나라는 악기를 사용하여 프로젝트 학습을 진행하여 협동성과 집단적 자존감의 발달 향상을 확인하였다. 음악에서 기악영역 외의 가창영역과 창작영역에도 프로젝트 학습을 적용하여 협동성과 자존감 향상을 확인해볼 필요가 있다. 그러므로 교사는 학생들의 음악적 흥미 분야에 관심을 가지고 다양한 주제를 반영한 프로젝트 학습을 진행하여, 학생들이 참여적인 분위기에서 음악을 즐길 수 있도록 힘써야 하며, 그 속에서 협동성과 집단적 자존감뿐만 아니라 다양한 특성들까지도 계발할 수 있도록 노력해야 하겠다. <핵심어> 프로젝트 학습, 초등학생, 협동성, 집단적 자존감, 오카리나 합주;The purpose of this study is to examine how project study affects the development of cooperativity and collective self-esteem of the third to sixth year elementary school students and ocarina ensemble activities are postulated as a research vehicle. To achieve the study objective, this thesis verified the subject regarding to instrumental instruction using ocarina, project study, and the cooperativity and collective self-esteem which are the sub-areas of sociality. Based on the preliminary data in regards to the music activities of the subjects, it made a plan of instrumental activities through the project study design process for the instrumental instructions using ocarina. On the basis of the plan, it developed the instrumental instruction-learning curriculum of ocarina applying project study method and implemented the project <Ocarina Recital for Spring Season> through ten instructions in total. The program and questionnaire used in this study have passed validity verification process examined by more than three experts. As a preliminary inspection of this study, we examined mainly three fields; project-related study, instrumental activities applying to cooperative study, and Ocarina-related study. First, ocarina-related studies implied that it is necessary to introduce a new type of instrument in the school instrumental education and ocarina is suitable for it due to its educational effect. Second, most of the studies related to instrumental activities which apply cooperative learning had two limitations; they merely showed theoretical description rather than showing empirical cases which directly apply cooperative learning model or instructions of learning. In addition it was required to verify the result of quantitative study because studies of project study, which are all qualitative, are difficult to be generalized. This is the reason why this study considered "A Study on the Effectiveness of ocarina Ensemble Activities Using Project Study on the Cooperativity and Collective Self-esteem of the Elementary School Students" as a research topic for a quantitative study reflecting the limitations of previous studies and suggestions. After completing preliminary inspection conducted on forty students, the third to sixth year elementary school students of B community child center located at Incheon city, we conducted post-inspection through the six instrumental instructions using ocarina which include the four supplementary lessons and project study. In addition, to prove the effectiveness of the program, this thesis analyzed the variance of the cooperativity and collective self-esteem of the elementary students with examining the variance of three sub-categories, score, questionnaire, and dependent variables in a quantitative way through a paired t-test of two dependent samples. The results are introduced below. First, ocarina ensemble activities using project study has a significant effect on the cooperativity development of the elementary students. Second, ocarina ensemble activities using project study has a significant effect on the collective self-esteem development of the elementary students. In the project study students were instructed to fill a class record after finishing every class. As we inspected these records, we could understand the attitude and opinion on group activity of student. Among entire students we closely observed the student who showed low preliminary score in collectivity and collective self-esteem generally and behavioral changes of this student are introduced below. First, students who had passive personality participated actively through continuous communication with group members in project study. Second, through long-term group activities the relationship with other members became intimate. Through the process of inter-respect they acquired self-esteem (collective self-esteem) and feeling against group activities disappeared. Third, through the process of preparing recital together students became to have interest in the activities and showed the attitude trying their best to be cooperative with colleagues. A great extent of student's behavioral changes compared to before project study has been conducted was found. The average score of post-inspection was higher than that of preliminary inspection by a great deal. Therefore, ocarina ensemble activities using project study facilitated students to improve the interactive relationship among classmates and had positive influence on the development of the cooperativity and collective self-esteem. This study is aimed at cultivating sociality of the students as an educational value in a break of the traditional study conducted in a passive way with the fixed frame by applying project study to the music education. In this sense, it achieved the research objective by proving that those activities are effective on improving the sub-factors such as the cooperativity and collective self-esteem which compose the sociality. Based on the conducting process of research and induced results we would suggest: First, the space of conducting research was community child center, external institution, not public school, therefore, there were no restriction of teaching time span and singing repertoires. By this reason, if we control the environmental conditions of the class similar to the school it would be plausible to conduct diverse project studies using ocarina. Second, as this study is restricted to ten instructions to prepare the recital project, it was difficult to supply the contents which were required for the learning process within a limited time. To intimately connect the learning materials, it is necessary to extend the number of classes to deal with the demands and circumstances of students flexibly and to establish environmental condition which promotes experiencing diverse instrumental activities. Third, considering that the target group of this study only contains elementary school students, it is imperative to verify the influence of cooperativity and collective self-esteem using project study through conducting in-depth study which sets the target of middle school and high school students. Fourth, this study examined the developmental improvement of cooperativity and collective self-esteem as conducting project study utilizing instrumental medium, ocarina. It remains to be seen how cooperativity and collective self-esteem is to be improved when project study method is applied to vocal area and area of creativity beyond area of instrumental music. In conclusion, the teachers are required to proceed project study class reflecting diverse musical interest areas of students to ensure that students enjoy musical activities in the participatory atmosphere. Further, they need to improve cooperativity and collective self-esteem and a broad variety of individual characteristics of students. <Keyword> project study, elementary students, cooperativity, collective self-esteem, ocarina ensemble
